The call of birds stood in stark contrast to the busy jabbering of people traversing the city. The filtering of light through the trees was gentler than the light of unshaded streets. The land itself was thick with undergrowth and moist enough from recent rains to soak through thinner garments with ease. To the wast of the strip of land a large lake shimmered, the water clear at the surface, but quickly fading into murky depths. Several yards east of the shore there would have been nowhere to comfortably stand. The land that way dropped steeply, punctuated by sharp outcroppings of stone and loose debris.
It was tranquil. Had this been a camping trip the calm would have seemed perfect, but there had to be reasons the place seemed so untouched.
Too bad it wouldn't stay that way. Jay

Kenessa The duo's landing wasn't clean.
Splashing into the waters of the wilderness was a very foreseeable prospect, yet it was a bit out of character for Kenessa. More often than not, the planeswalker was accurate with her teleportation - more so than most things should be. Yet, here she was, making rookie mistakes like miscalculated trajectories.
Mathematics was her oyster, and she was letting it rot.
Hauling herself from the water, she let out a breathe. "Ok. Never had that happen before..." she said to herself.
The girl shook her head, letting the water spray itself around her before she stood to her feet. "Great. It's in my boots. Fuckin dammit," she muttered. She debated pulling them off, seeing as the idea of skulking around a cavern with water sloshing about would yield some uncomfortable, and possibly dangerous, results.
But, there was no time to worry about that. At least, not now. "Izune, where's this damn cave before I gank a minkey."
Another one of her many Nessie-isms. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female Loner。

Water water everywhere and none of it expected. The first thing to do was not to talk. It was to swim, and like many cats, Izune was not a fan.
Instinct took over when it came to finding her way to the surface of the liquid. She found which was was up, and struck out towards the shore. Her fur dragged her down, but she was not making any attempt to fiddle with forms while submerged in the water. She pulled herself up onto the closest shore, and shook to dislodge annoying quantities of liquids from her dense fur.
"At least we're in the right area." The yokai pointed out in an annoyed tone. She shifted into a human form. The lack of fur would help her dry faster than soaking in such a wet blanket of it would. Still she was rather an annoyed.
Slipping past Kenessa, the yokai navigated through the undergrowth. "Over here." She beckoned for the the human to follow. She better keep up.
The yokai dropped into the nearby crater, navigating the sharp rocks like a mountain goat, and leaving Kenessa to figure out her own way down. The sharp rocks could make teleporting a bit precarious if there were any other miscalculations. The cave was down here somewhere, somewhere near the bottom.
the bottom was even more rocky and uneven than the sides with plenty of human-sized or bigger gaps between rocks. It would be tough to climb out if one fell in to one of those holes. The yokai began poking around the area on her right side, looking for the entrance to the actual cave system. Izune expected it to be partially or fully blocked by rubble. Jay

Kenessa A descent like this wasn't usually very bad. Considering the other adventures Kenessa had been on, she was in very good shape. Bar her powers, she was quick on her feet, and able to overcome many different kinds of obstacles.
Today, that skill did not shine through.
She was having a bit of trouble descending the mountainside, with the crag and steepness threatening to wear and tear at her very mortal skin.
However, she was spared that fate, by virtue of her foot slipping. "Fuck!" She yelled out, starting to tumble down the mountainside.
Yet again, she was spared. She didn't feel the herself hit the ground - rather, she was ascending. It didn't take long for her to realize that she was being carted upward by a strange, avian creature.
"Shite! Off, ya fuckin bird!" She said, drawing her blade and starting to swing. She was able to nick the leg of the giant beast. That only served to piss it off, and the creature began to shake her around in its talon.
She could have ported herself, but her senses told her that doing so would end in tragedy. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female Loner。

Well shit.
Here Izune had been looking for a way deeper in, when the roc had swooped out of nowhere.
Birds like that usually didn't come this far out of their territories something must be up for one to be causing trouble here.
That or it was targeting Kenessa specifically for some reason.
With a sigh the yokai transformed her shape, furry wings snapping open as she caught onto an updraft. She was not fond of flying, but It wouldn't do to not come to some sort of rescue before the girl ended up dropped onto the rocks below.
Powerful intentional wingbeats propelled the yokai upward, steadily closing the arial gap. When close enough she attempted to latch on to the bird.
She had an idea she could try and enact if she got herself close enough to the giant avian's head.

Kenessa And they said that Kenessa was completely helpless. Please. She was many things, but inept wasn't one of them.
In fact, she made that clear when she kicked at the underside of the bird.
Now came the second factor: effectiveness. That was what she lacked when she did it. The leverage she had while upside down was tenuous at best, and she'd only managed to piss it off more.
Izune latching onto the beast's body gave her the leeway she needed to throw herself up. Its grip lessened on her leg, and thus Nessie was able to move upward and slice through the leg of the bird creature.
Then, she started to fall. She was looking around for something to grab, but found herself without. Thus, she was forced to improvise, and teleported in midair.
That idea was passable, she only hit the ground moderately hard. It didn't take much to get back up, but that didn't stop the ache in her shoulder. Then, she looked back up to Izune, who was still on the monster that attacked her.
Somehow, she knew the feline would have an easier time than she did.
And, that was probably a good thing, because Kenessa's attention turned to the beasts that began to emerge from the cave entrance next to her. Two more avian creatures, yet these guys were upright; wielding spears in feathered arms with torsos rippling with muscle and angry expressions.
They spoke in a language unknown to the planeswalker, but the body language and the way they swung their polearms was clear - she was to be killed.
She leapt out of the way of a swing, and spun her blade to parry the other. They weren't stupid - they were attacking her at the same time, and each strike was disciplined and precise. They were aiming for vital areas, and only her nimbleness and quick thinking were keeping her from being kabobbed on the spot. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female Loner。

For a few moments, kenessa was left to fight on her own while izune addressed the issue of the larger bird. She could leave it, but nah. It would be an easy kill from her position.
Large drops of avian Blood fell from above staining the rocks red.
Then the large bird descended like a lightning bolt, to snag up one of the raptor men before he had time to squawk with its deadly talons.
The once again human shaped yokai jumped off the bird's back as it flapped back skyward. Izune grinned proudly. "Hello birdies." She greeted teasingly, knowing the sudden use of the puppet bird against them worked well as a distraction to give Nessie a chance to gain the upper hand Jay

Kenessa These birds were a pain in my ass, and they were slated to stay that way, it seemed.
Izune dealt with her enemy deftly enough, as expected, and here I was clashing with some muscle-bound hawkman. Still, I was able to keep them away while my partner made her way over to assist. It was a fair fight, now.
Well, it was, before more of them showed up.
Now, it was a brawl. I drew my gun, and two shots rang from the barrel immediately. One missed, but the other hit one of the birdmen right between the eyes. The other screeched as he lunged at me.
The hand carrying my blade went up, and I was able to at least successfully knock his attack out of the way. It wasn't graceful by any means, but it helped give me the second I'd needed to react. I jumped back, dodging a kick from its talon, and took advantage of the point-blank distance to fire another shot. This one hit its stomach, and the pained screech told me it had struck true.
He wasn't down, though. The spear came back and was hefted at me from the same range. Whatever swiftness kept me alive in that moment, I'd like to thank it. The spear whizzed over my ducking head, and I took another shot.
Right in the chest, and the birdman fell over in a heap. Muscle doesn't protect from guns - simple law of nature.
"Oi, Izune, first rocs, now the Aves?!" I yelled to her. "You didn't tell me the treasure was this hot!"

"its a new development " Izune pointed out. They must have set up a nest here after she'd scoped the knowledge of this place out. When she'd heard about it, creatures were saying it was taboo to live here, and not because of some birds, because of some deeper magic a curse on the land.
Well finding out that stuff could come later. Right now there were the bird-men to deal with. A smile gracing her face as more opponents poured out. This was going to be fun.
The roc was coming back around, the undead body following izune's puppetry to dominate the sky above the crater and to descend and strike again.
Izune dove into the fight, slipping right under the spears of the nearest bird-men. They were slow, especially once she was too close for the spears to be properly maneuvered. After that, all she needed to do was sink claws into their flesh. The cuts were aimed to kill, but it was hard to get through the feather armor no matter how long and sharp she made her claws. Yet that was no Matter. A cut to the neck or chest or even back, combined with her decay, soon burned its way through enough flesh and bone tissue to be a real dehibilitator.
A few clusters were delt with this way before the birds started getting a little more wise in their formations, taking on a formation where they could cover eachother's defenseless spots.
Izune stepped back. The puppet roc was coming back around. The raptors could stab that as much as they wanted. It wouldn't feel the pain.

Kenessa New development. Right.
Always was a catch to these things. I wasn't so much surprised as I was annoyed at the uninvited guests. I knew that the Aves were a treasure-hunting culture; being birds and all, shiny things caught their attention.
This... this would complicate things. I knew what kind of history we had.
This wasn't going to end well, I know it. It certainly wasn't for the birdmen, who kept trying their hardest to fight the swooping monster of a hawk above us.
I looked to Izune, motioning for us to simply go inside and let the birdbrains duke it out. I wouldn't wait for her response, though, as I was quick to enter the place they exited.
If these idiots came from there, that meant the Aves were inside.

Izune realized nessie wanted to go deeper into the den and began to work her way through the raptor men to the hidden entranceway that their coming had revealed. They could keep on duking it out.
There was one problem.
Izune was the reason the bird-brains were fighting the roc in the first place. The bakeneko couldn't bet on her puppet to stay in her control as the distance grew greater and she gave up visual perception of the area. She remained as attentive as she could as she slipped through the hidden entrance which the avians had revealed.
In contrast to outside rocky stone tunnel was spectacularly quiet. Earth was scratched various ways and debris lined the ages but the way was remarkably clear. It was also quite small; hard to believe any stories about a dragon having set up a den here. There was enough room to go shoulder to shoulder but not much more than that. A little natural light came in though small gaps in the stone for a little while, but soon the tunnel grew devoid of any light from the outside.
