A tall woman in a slim shimmering white-gold dress, stood in the middle of a blighted field. She bent over and plucked one of the rotting stems between slender fingers, raising it up to her chest. As she examined the stalk, she could see what she already knew. This hadn't been one of the corrupted blights which had started to become more common in the area. Thankfully it was only natural illness which had gotten to the grain, brought on the wings of insects.
The implications for the locals in the coming year was drastic. A bad harvest, poor assets for the frigid winters that were common in this part of the land. The people here were worried about starving, afraid of what might happen in the future they did not know.
Slender hands crumpled the dried up stalk, breaking it into fine pieces, before flinging the resulting handful of chaff out onto the field. As simple as the dried bits were, the shimmered temporarily like sparks in the dying sunlight.
The somewhat remote town to which the field Belonged was going to be alright this year. She hadn't even needed to intervene for it to be so, but the goddess highly valued the reminder of the ephemeral world. It was important to never be so set apart from mortality as to lose sight of the smallest lives.

Long legs moved the violet colored body through the field. It was a beautiful sight; one the mammalian dragon had not been introduced to for a very long time. When was the last time she had taken in the beauty of nature? The young mythical had long since forgotten.
The shining materials of the glittering dress were hasty to catch the dragon's attention. Her senses had been dampened since she had been released, and though there was a trace of power to be noticed, it was almost missed by the purple furred creature.
Still, curiosity rang in the mind of the individual. Two long, fluffy tails trailing behind her, the mythical gracefully trotted towards the woman. She likely already had the attention of the person, but though they were separate species, she had no fear of this unknown. Surely one person, with magic and powers or not, could not pose too much of a threat. A girl in a dress seemed like one she could ask a question of, without fear of being attacked.
She cleared her throat, her voice slightly hoarse from lack of use, and dared to utter three simple words in a curious manner. "Where am I?"

The presence of crops was a welcome reprieve, withering though they were. Ahote had been wandering through the wilderness for weeks on end, and seeing a distant village, no matter how small, was a sight for sore eyes.
Slowly he followed the dirt tracks through a field of rotting stems, bare feet carefully maneuvering around the ruts in the narrow road. The normal clatter of objects strewn about his person had been reduced to a quiet, scattered din; supplies were running low, his lean body markedly thinner than usual.
Built for warm deserts, learned of flooded rainforests, he was not used to these lands of seasonal temperatures and plants that fell dormant for a whole season. The strain from struggling to survive in these foreign fields and frigid forests made itself clear in his muscles as he moved, his feet dragging, his fingers stiff, his dark brown hair a roped mess. Even his own foreign nature could not be hidden; his reddish brown skin was on full view without a proper shirt, his whole body covered in labyrinthine tattoos, even around his dusty gray eyes.
Easing his way towards the town, the human's attention was soon caught by something stranger, although not all that surprising. A now familiar shape bounded through the crops, big, furry, the likes of which he'd seen only a few times before, and still had no name for. To where it bounded caught his eyes even more so, and the breath was snatched from his throat.
The tall woman who stood in the middle of the field stuck out like a sore thumb, clothed in a shimmering white-gold textile that appeared unreal. Looking at her, recognizing yet more subtle degrees of strangeness, he quickly grew paranoid of the tingling sensation coursing across his skin, all along where the tattoos had been engraved into his body. Was it truly just the cold?
Swiftly he tore his gaze away, shielding his face behind the tall stalks as he hurried for the settlement.

As he is now, there would be no difference between An Avatar and a mere mancer. In this place that he knew nothing of, a pain rung throughout his head. He wasn't sure of what, but some anomaly...no maybe HE was the anomaly; after all, Saiph still lacked answers for his being here or at least what 'here' was. Wearing nothing more than the Avatar's uniform from his home and the red visor that masked his eyes and forehead, his long silver hair flowing from the back down to his waist. He seemed cautious to stand on the ground, but his long term flight also seemed to be impossible to use, a red turbo shot from beneath his feet, causing no damage to the vegetation below it, but kept him from touching the ground.
In the thought that he unknowingly invaded some other plane he thought to only converse with those he could come into immediate contact with, it seemed to risky to openly venture the settlement. Before him were very few people however, one of which seemed to hold a visual importance to him. Before he could think to approach he noticed another person who's very presence was important by elimination of any plausible information. Before the person could make their leave he'd cut them off with his own presence, using his hands to move apart the stalks from obscuration.
He found himself approaching a thin male with brown hair, who seemed to show his bare chest similar to Saiph himself. Not that his eyes were visible but they would stare at the person for a while before he chose to speak.
"I know very little of where I am, and some force seems to be making me fatigued...where is here?"
Saiph was no stranger to his own plausible awkwardness, in all honesty he was a bit scared, his ignorance to his whereabouts was an unfamiliar feeling. So he lacked the effort to take the necessary steps to a conversation, such as an introduction.

A slight near imperceptible turn and the woman was facing the fluffy purple dragon, her face beautifully human, but with a subtle overlaying deer-like beast-like element that seemed to overlay her features like the lightest of veils. Her shifting citrine eyes seemed to be looking at multiple things at once, multiples of the dragon, multiples of her surroundings, though there was no doubt which was here and now.
Though she adressed the creature she was well aware that others within reach of her voice seemed to have the same question. She could speak at conversational tone, without the sound diminishing as much as it ought for those further away who shared the question "You are in the land of eokia, where magic flows strong, in the north central region of the continent near a small farm town that rests on a road from mountains."
If need be at least for the dragon, she'd offer a subtle mental option to know more than just words, but an ethereal map of the broader landscape, or a sense of homing much like how migrating animals always know the way to go, despite however many leagues they fly.
She expected the others, more cautious might be unnerved more by such a display.

Focused on the two he'd already witnessed, and on hastily removing himself from the field, Ahote was caught off-guard by a sudden parting of the crops where he did not expect another to be. A strange-looking man stepped out, blocking his path, and turned towards him.
Ahote's feet dug into the soil, bringing himself to a stop some feet away from the stranger, his spine slightly bent as he tried to remain hidden from the duo he was retreating from. Careful eyes crossed over the stranger as he approached, expression wary and weary.
He'd not seen such a strange uniform before, and the fact that his eyes were covered by a cloth made him all the more suspicious. Eyes were supposed to be gateways to the soul, after all, and with them out of view it made determining the other's intentions all the more difficult.
His muscles were pulled taut, one hand around the string that latched a musical instrument to his back, and the other hovering around where a hunting knife hung from his waist. Although he feared the words that the other man spoke were meant to trick him, he would try to maintain some semblance of friendliness about him, in his voice at least if nothing else.
English wasn't his first language, and he had to take seconds to parse what was being said, and how to respond. By the time he did, he nearly jumped up in a start, for another voice seemed to be speaking just to the other side of him.
He stood tall, peering around, but no one else seemed so near as the man in front of him. His eyes glanced over the woman in the field, the hairs standing on the back of his neck at an almost hazy, beastly veil that he caught flickering over her face.
His hope that he hadn't been spotted yet was dashed in an instant, now possessing the distinct feeling that he, alongside all the others, was being watched. Still he tried to keep his face partly out of view from the pair in the field.
His gaze settled back on the man before him, offering the stranger a subtle nod as he took a cautious step forward, hoping the other human might step out of the way so that he could continue on himself. The stranger's question had been answered; if he meant no harm, then surely he would allow Ahote to pass?

The dragon listened intently to the words of the human who was not really a daughter of man. She was something else that the mythical had yet to discern. Nevertheless, the answer was satisfactory. This place was Eokia, and the specific location was quite a humble one.
The mythical gratefully received the mental map that the woman had to offer; she was familiar with these images delivered and received via the mind.
It was quickly discovered that the two were not alone. Even before the gift of the map was received, those two were there-- both humanoid in their forms. The mammalian dragon's purple head swiveled around to face the direction of them, her olive green mane flowing in the breeze. Her keen ears detected a question with no verbal answer to be given.
"Thank you," she responded, gazing out of the corners of her red eyes at the mystical woman. "And if you don't mind me imposing a little, what might you be?"
Manners. Those were something the two had been adamant on, before they dared to release her into the world for a second time. Despite her hatred of the one who had permitted her here, she had been taught that going in without knowing how to be polite would not get her anywhere.
Her second question was asked for a reason, much like the first. The vibe of the woman gave off a feeling that counteracted her own, which could be felt by the ones of awareness when she lingered nearby-- a corrupted and blistering soul of one who may have once been pure, buried deep within, but not hidden.

With a tilt to the head Saiph would express his confusion at the boy's actions, they almost seemed feral for some reason refusing to speak. He couldn't say he was happy about this, a person such as this was the last thing he wanted to run into thankfully to his suspension of disbelief He would over here the woman he had noticed before speaking. He leaned his body back a bit out of confusion, did she hear his question? And what was that...next to her? His face grew a little stern, even with the metal visor hiding his eyes.
"...What?"
He said cocking his head to the other side. Did she just say...magic? Believing the woman had more information to spare than the one in front of him be would nod his head to the brown haired male before floating past him toward the woman.
"Did you say...magic? this continent has a culture solely based on parlor tricks...? Like pulling a coin from behind one's ear?" He said leaning forward to the woman, he actually doubted that was the case but did imagine it was something akin to performance and not actual fairy tale magic that he'd read in books as a child. He wanted to make the assumption that they actually meant the alien technology he himself possessed, but the way the area appeared it didn't seem it had much influence over the culture he was familiar with; there was also the fact that the place seemed to jam his technology to an extent, so unless he was specifically being targeted he doubted he wouldn't be able to find a fast solution to the interference.

The tattooed man has surely seen this animal face before. It is the same as that one dragon, not the one he'd shot but the one who'd tried to touch his mind maybe forgotten months back. There is a chance he may recognize her because of this trait. This probably would do nothing for his nerves.
Her next words would be for the dragon, not aimed at the others, since it was clear that at least the strangely dressed man who covered his eyes would not believe her easily. Oh how should she answer. She was so many things, some more easy for living beings to wrap their heads around than the others. Considering what she sensed in the furred purple form, perhaps as easily aware of the presence of corruption as the dragon could sense the goddess's purity, it wasn't too hard to pick what to explain. "I am a being both of, and outside Eokia, endowed with its care, and the care of those who are willing to put faith in me." She explained, clearly meaning faith in a religious sense. Yet she didn't like to call herself goddess too soon in these conversations. Too many beings easily could give themselves such labels without having earned them after all, and some creatures viewed such being with extreme negativity.
There was a chance the foreign man who was covering his eyes might be such based on his words. She tilted her head his way in a bird like manner, examining him. Face to face, there was a high chance her inhumaness would be harder to mentally push aside things like that veil of an animal face, eyes that seemed to see far more than what was humanly possible, even the fact that her coming closer to speak to her had not changed how large she appeared to be. There were plenty of oddities that did not fit what was expected in natural non-magical worlds.
She answered quite frankly. "Though slight of hand can be handled quite skillfully, the magic I am referring to is neither trick nor illusion." though it could be noted both could be done using magic. "For example, turning this field of sickly wheat into bolts of silken cloth, is not impossible." That was a showy one, though she did nothing to show off such powers yet. The ground needed the nutrients from the rotting chaff to replenish itself for the next crop. Besides, she preferred magic which didn't drastically transform portions of the world but instead cultivated what was here already. Of course she was still willing to demonstrate if truly it was needed.

Ahote stepped back, grip tightening around his knife, brushing up against the stalks, as the other man...floated...past him.
He stared for a moment, bewildered, and the suspicion in him only rose. He glanced towards the town. With so many oddities in one place, he wasn't so sure it would be any different.
The whole town could be full of witches.
He swallowed, for he needed the supplies and the advice, and he knew of no other towns within another week's walking distance. And he trusted the buildings more than he did the forests outside the crops. He wouldn't know unless he tried; he'd just have to be careful about it.
Shooting a swift glance around him to make sure no one else was going to surprise him, checking on the position of the strange trio, the tattooed man hastened for the village once more, switching into a slow jog until he was at whatever he deemed a substantial enough distance from the strangers (which just so happened to be whenever the woman's voice finally petered out), and slowing instead back into a fast walk.
As he neared the village, he would recognize that it didn't look to be in good shape. So much for his luck, not that it hadn't looked good to begin with. Well, poor towns were always looking for extra hands, weren't they? Perhaps he could offer his services in exchange for knowledge of the land at least.
Hopefully he wouldn't find himself staying too long.

Shen qiedao Life on the road wasn't the best, but it kept her busy, or at least that's what she thought. Shen yawned loudly as she jumped out of her hoverbike, a magic-run vehicle she had picked up before leaving Sonlas. The thing wasn't as fast as the motorcycles she had come to know in her youth, but the fact that it floated was cool enough for her to keep it.
Her quest kept her moving too, the quest to find the person that had changed her life once more.
"I wonder where we are," she pointed out drowsily as she took out what seemed like a compass-like device, only for a screen of energy to materialize in front of her once she opened the lid on it, allowing her to see her location. "Wow, we came pretty far."
"That's what you get for just 'going where the wind takes you', Shen," the sword on her waist spoke, vibrating slightly with each word that resonated from it. Shen chuckled sheepishly upon hearing this, leaning back against her bike.
"What can I say, I have my methods," she said with a goofy laugh, clearly enjoying the detour they had taken.
That had pretty much been her policy since becoming a vampire, to just take life as it went, plus it was a lot less complicated than wallowing over everything. "Either way, I doubt we'll be able to find Eve here," she added with a sigh.
"I told you we should've taken that bounty job instead, would've given us more money too," the sword stated sternly.
"You're in an awfully grouchy mood today Sidestick," Shen replied with a pout.
"Please...don't call me that."
"Hey! it's the name given to you by your proud and amazing owner. Bear it with pride!" she called out enthusiastically, which earned her no reply from the blade. "But yeah, let's see where we are first," she continued, mostly after she remembered that they also had no food.
As thus, Shen began to pull her bike along with her as they walked through the area around the field, staring at the town they walked back.
It always amazed her how different the culture in Eokia was to Sanctuary, the place she had grown up in. There everything always seemed so clean, so advanced. But there was a certain openness and freedom to the way things worked in Eokia, even if it was also a lot more primitive. It was in moments like those that Shen thanked the fact she took detours.
Unfortunately, that moment didn't last when she saw the field of rotted crops, a sad smile crossing her face. "Must be a bad harvest?" she muttered, only to notice a group of people that had gathered on the field.
"Looks like there's some kind of gathering going on there," Sidestick said, peeking Shen's curiosity even more.
The vampire smiled, she did need to find a place to eat, plus meeting new people always came in handy. As thus she let go of her bike, though still kept her eyes on it, and began walking towards the group.

When he'd approach the woman, he'd notice the way her head would turn in his direction, how she'd examine is foreign uniform. The peculiar action made his fears become a reality. It didn't seem like there was a true explanation to animate how it was his being here, and with the woman's examination and the coming response to his exclaim, somehow he had doubt that she would lie but also didn't believe her explanation would really help at all. Thus she began to explain, this enigma or at least an enigma to him; magic, was just as he had dismissed.
With the simple sentence the woman confirmed his suspicions, what was only possibly in books, fairy tales and his own technology in a manner of speaking was a reality here, no short-cuts, tricks or turns...It would not be impossible, even with his eyes hidden to see the uneasy tension that would run through his body and give him goosebumps. after a moment or two he'd regain his former composure and nod to the woman. "I see, with my ignorance I have no reason to doubt you, even if it doesn't make any sense...I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, you seem like a native to this plane after all" He would say before hovering a foot back.
"If this magic truly does exist, then I know exactly what needs to be done..."
After he spoke, some metal device shaped like a watch would appear around his left wrist and would open a neon blue circular construct as if a small shield. He'd look to the construct then back at the woman. "Excuse my asking, but could you...I can't believe I'm saying this...conjure a pyrokinetic spell and shoot it at this construct I have created...?" He would float still for a moment, before realizing something.
"Ah, I am losing myself, context is needed, of course, do this for me and I believe I will be able to learn more about this so called magic as a whole...perhaps even restore full control over my own devices...it is not unlike a person's immune system adapting to a disease or infection" He would say, simply awaiting for the woman to create the flame conjuration, should she be able to.
All the while, behind his mask he became aware of a new figure approaching the scene, he would turn his head to simply look at them for a moment before returning his position to the woman he asked a favor of.

The woman blinked slowly regarding the man and his device even more closely though she did not move closer or study it at any change in distance. "I wouldn't use things like that here if I were you. Advanced technologies have a lot of trouble working as intended. The magic itself interferes." She warned. It hadn't been her call for technologies to go on the fritz. It had been the dictation of the creators of this land in the form of deep magics embedded into its origins. At best devices didn't even turn on remaining silent and dead. At worst there were dramatic, even dangerous malfunctions at the press of a button. Even if there was magic at work to help keep things running, technology carried quite the stigma. Mortals and natives who had never seen beyond would mind it more than she.
She would humor him, just not exactly in the way he expected. A tiny shift of one finger on one hand and the thing caught aflame. It was hot enough to burn if carelessly handled, but Vessa wasn't careless. She might risk breaking the device but the fire would not spread or actually burn him unless the man tried to stick his hand in it.
She left him to deal with the fire for a few moments to see how he'd respond to the magic. In fact she seemed to forget that the fire was blazing as she turned towards the approaching vampire. "Well this is a day and place for travelers isn't it." She observed. This was a rare anomaly in these parts of eokia. It was just such an out of the way place that four individual travelers within an hour was probably a new occurrence.
"Did you need something?" She asked the vampire as she finally ceased the blazing fire with as simple a gesture as she had used to begin it.

Shen qiedao Shen stared at the woman for a moment, mesmerized by her upon closer look. She gave off an air of wisdom and control, as if she could dish out her worries to her without trouble.
It wasn't till a few seconds later that she realized she had been staring like an idiot at her for too long. "Oh, sorry," she said in embarassment. "I'm just a passing traveler really."
She glanced at the other people around her once more. Curious as to what each of them was doing there, and what any of the passing townfolk might think if they saw them. "I was just searching for someone. But then I saw this place and well...it's kind of sad," her face fell on the crops once more, still wondering how they could've ended up in such a state.
"I'm kind of new to Eokia you see, so I wanted to see more of it. I didn't expect there'd be places like this."
To Shen it was a completely new thing, after all, in Sanctuary she would've never seen a field in this state, it all seemed to clean...a little too much. vampire Neutral good | 20 | female

Vessa turned her gaze across the field, observing the familiar decay that she had come to address. It didn't look any better yet, nor did it have to. Time would heal this wound on the earth. Her soft intervention would simply help it along. "Urban life conceals the reality of things like this. Crops get sick as easily as people do." It was a reality in other lands as much as it was in this one. Sanctuary and Sonlas both had to feed their people, and things did not always go well. It was also something a city person wouldn't usually see. Most only saw the good crop that came into the markets and stores. "The decay over winter will strengthen the land. Next year's harvest will be better, but for now winter for the locals will be harder.
