Tendrils clung to his incorporeal form trying to drag him back.
They burned and stung, and even though he could also destroy them. There seemed to be no end to the sinister things reaching out from the place he had fled.
Give him a break. He was leaving, obviously. Maybe he'd been a little too curious and lingered a little too long, but he certainly knew he didn't want to spend another moment in that hostile place.
Universe spun in a macrocosmic kaleidoscope. Which lead to the earth he knew, he didn't know.
That thing was still trying to reach him. He didn't have time to explore and see.
A door, a gap in shadowy nebula opened up under him for a mere moment. It was better than nothing, feeling at least not blatantly sinister. He didn't think twice before slipping through, and falling gracelessly to the surface below.
The change in terrain was like jumping into cool water. The landing didn't hurt, though it didn't seem to have been cushioned by anything about. In this atmosphere residue from Necropolis peeled off and faded away like smoke. The pain in his head, gone. The wounds like bruises from accidentally messing with a demonic entity, quickly losing substance now that the terrain was more against it.
Who'd have believed that stumbling on a better location would have made such a difference.
It seemed he was in a palace garden. A shimmering tile courtyard was lined with strange but beautiful plants. A double staircase climbed its way up behind him to some sort of higher ground. The colors here...many didn't exist in the physical world, and if his eyes had been unable to see them, he would have called this place simply flooded with blinding light. Because he could see things for the way they actually were, the light was gentle, but still brighter than anything from earth that he'd seen.
But he still wanted to yell in frustration. This disembodied travel felt like a dream he could not wake up from. He didn't want to be here. He wanted to open his eyes to the room he'd dozed off in in Eokia, to look and see flesh and blood, not this... Bright spirit-form that seemed only slightly dimmer than his current surroundings. What if he was gone too long? What if he died as he'd read was possible. The trouble was he kept winding up in the wrong place when he tried to will himself back because he really didn't know what he was doing.
He wasn't going to risk a return quite yet. If lingering in this place to 'catch his breath' after the fumble into Necropolis would help, he figured he better let it while he had the chance. Maybe it would make the difference between getting back properly and the bumbling around that he had been doing. Jay

Amitiel Empyreans were erudite shapeshifters by nature. Much like many other beings similar to them, their physical form was subject to their will. More often than not, they appeared as the most dominant species in the place they were, in an effort to try and blend in.
Amitiel was no different, and yet they were completely different. Their shapeshifting was a way to understand the populace. With their angelic form being too intense and glorious for mortal eyes, they were forced to appear as something else entirely.
This soon became reflex; whenever a mortal being foreign to Amitiel's energies appeared, their body would involuntarily shapeshift.
The arrival of Malik did exactly that. It wasn't as if the angel hadn't seen the boy coming - no, existing outside the bounds of time and space made nothing a surprise for them.
When the Nephilim stepped onto the plane, he would come face-to-face with Amitiel 'tending to the hedges', as it were. Molding and shaping the energies of the plane with a mortal form. It would seem as if the shapechanging angel was dancing among light and sound, twisting and turning it until it went from cacophony to symphony.
"I knew we would meet again," Amitiel replied. The last time the angel had seen Malik was in a dream, and they hadn't left a good lasting impression on him. Then again, neither had he, but Amitiel had far more time than he to think over everything.

Malik found one thing in this place disconcerting, one thing that didn't quite match the insane amount of perfection he saw around him at first glance.
A human?
No.... When going off the inhuman part of his senses Malik could feel that it wasn't a mortal being.
However, the shapeshifted form still made things a little complicated. When they'd last met, Malik's senses had not been well attuned to nuances in supernatural energies. Physical appearances were all he had known how to go off on so he struggled to place when he had met the angel before.
He frowned slightly, frustrated by his initial lack of recognition. He didn't want to draw attention to that but figured it must be obvious. There were surely spiritual nuances in his expression that Malik wasn't even aware of.
He decided to respond to the statement first. "I'm lucky thats all. I shouldn't have even ended up there." He pointed out, knowing that the path that had led him to this place showed him to be a total klutz when it came to moving across realms spiritually. "Remind me when we met? I'm not doing a good job at remembering." Might as well admit that failure and get it out of the way he decided in the end. Jay

Amitiel The angel did not respond to Malik's first observation. To be honest, there was something festering inside of the celestial upon seeing the boy. Something almost wholly negative.
Vessa had taught Amitiel to hold their tongue if their response was biting. So, in a calm voice, they responded to the second statement.
"A dream. You called for help, and I responded," the next comment was something they couldn't help, "And it is plain to see how ineffective it was."
Be that as it may, they were still obligated to be kind. "Welcome to the Heavens. This realm was found by the Goddess Vessatali, whom I serve. Perhaps it is through her grace that you stand here in one piece." Angel neutral good | ageless | sexless Loner。

"Oh that." Malik wanted to face-palm. the connection was way clearer now that the association was stated. Yes he actually remembered. The angel's current appearance had simply made it hard to be sure. "Sorry I was a jerk then. I probably wasn't ready to be helped." He hadn't been in the best state of mind back there, more ready to be stubborn than to actually let others show him the way. Hopefully he'd come quite far since that distressed dream so many months ago.
The information about the realm attracted Malik's attention, although the nephilm did not know how much faith he wanted to put in unknown deities. He didn't want to trust just on Amitiel's word that Vesstali was benevolent, not when there were so many other things out there which he had yet to encounter, and at least as many sinister ones as good. "Well I'm glad I found it. I've never seen anything like this before." He admitted, at the very least able to appreciate the ream in which he had ended up. It felt safe, safer than many of the other places he had intentionally or unintentionally end up so far. Jay

Amitiel Almost as quickly as the distasteful feelings began to emerge did they start to subside. While not entirely gone, Amitiel was more understanding of Malik's plight. Panic is a powerful and deadly influence on rational thought, after all.
Then again, what was exactly rational about the help the angel could provide? They weren't human. They couldn't be a psychiatrist. A cosmic guardian, maybe - they could watch over Malik as they had contemplated doing, but that didn't solve anything.
Still, the Nephilim was safe. So, that counted for something. "This realm is rather new, but it cannot be penetrated. Within its bounds, you are safe from any and all incursion."
The angel seemed assured of this, even if there might have been things lurking in the dark that could prove them of otherwise.
That, however, brought up a new question. Something they wouldn't be able to see, even with the special properties of this plane. "What were you running from?" Angel neutral good | ageless | sexless Loner。

Phew.
If it really was safe than there was only one thing Malik need worry about, hopefully that wouldn't be too pressing. Getting back to his body in eokia had waited this long.
"Well I kinda stumbled into some place called Necropolis." Malik prefaced as to answer what he had been fleeing. Anyone with any knowledge of Necropolis and an imagination could probably project what could happen when something not supposed to be there stumbled into a demonic land. He'd been practically a demon magnet. "Didn't know where I was and attracted some trouble. When I tried to leave some gatekeeper or something attacked me some kind of space elephant octopus thing." He didn't know exactly what to call the weird being he'd been fleeing but it had been on the way out that he'd first encountered it.
"It was out of my league so I'm glad I got away." He admitted with a shrug. He knew a bit about fighting but he hadn't been at a level to deal with the thing while in this astral form and on unfamiliar terrain. Jay

"I'd say its my understanding that's incomplete." Malik explained. He didn't know how much his abilities could grow, but he didn't see that as the main concern at the moment. "Its a matter of not knowing how to do stuff a lot of the time." A true angel probably knew it all by instinct or something that made their abilities seem natural as breathing to them. For Malik it was more like humans normally learn, through a lot of trial and error. Jay

Amitiel Amitiel nodded. "And expanding that understanding would help you," it was more of a statement than a question.

"I Practice. Try and replicate the unlucky accidents more safely. I read a ton of books on power theory and try what I can from them." His answers were all things which Malik had actually been working on as solutions so far. though it seemed like he wasn't making as much progress as he'd hoped with any of the methods.
"But something's missing that I'm not gonna learn those ways." It was probably one of the cases where once he figured out what it was, he probably wouldn't need to learn it anymore because he would know what it was. Jay

When Malik thought of his own culture he thought of sanctuary, however it was pretty obvious what the angel meant. The nephilm 'closed his eyes' for a moment, choosing to not see the glory around him for a short span, though he certainly couldn't help but be aware of it. The action was just one of many human actions that were habit. "Part of me is human you know. I doubt I could stay in a place like this long, especially since I am flesh and blood too." Right now not so much seeing as this was an unintentional spiritual venture, but he couldn't just drop that way of living either. Jay

Amitiel "I was not speaking primarily of your celestial origins," the angel sat on a wisp of light.
This sudden burst of wisdom from the angel was not entirely their own. No, it was being in Vessatali's light that gave them the ability to speak of Malik's issues. It was like invoking a muse - only this time, the muse was a Goddess who had spent many a millennia among mortal beings.
"Your powers are disparate because you think them mutually exclusive within your body," Amitiel looked at their own hand. archAngel neutral good | ageless | sexless Loner。

"What are you getting at?" Malik asked, not entirely understanding how the angel was interpreting his view of his abilities. He didn't quite get it, but the words made him feel almost defensive, ready to deny that he had such a viewpoint.
But no, he shouldn't let himself be that stubborn. The angel was probably on to something. Jay
