He knew the angel could dance circles around him, to evade or block or counter before he realized such an action was taking place. To actually be allowed make contact without hint of such an attempt was as disarming as a secret weapon would have been.
He'd had a follow-up in mind, nearly was ready to act upon it, with his light already starting to take on a different shape, but he froze when the pace of the clashes changed, found it hard to follow through, even with being aware of the angel's ability to get away or respond at the smallest moment.
Being delayed made him vulnerable to another blow and he was fully aware of that vulnerability.
In part defensive move and part surprise he pulled back at an angle. He moved as if he expected to have to face contact with those wings or the fist, poised to respond if he felt something coming at him.
But the angel was smiling. That too was a bit disconcerting. He was used to fights either for his own survival or for training to last a lot longer, to actually reach the point where he felt he couldn't handle it. It still could turn that route but the angel's expression now that he was actually looking at it seemed to speak otherwise. Jay

Amitiel He was cautious. Good. His instincts were giving him direction. It wasn't what I what I wanted him to end on, but it was good enough. The power I was ready to use would be enough.
It was a demonstration of the kind of energy he could possess. That he was well on his way to possessing.
Celestial power began to gather at my feet, then coursed up my legs, and coalesced around my outstretched hand.
Then, in as little as a second, it was sent flying. This blast, unlike the others, was a powerful, concentrated emission of angelic power - a signature among the Empyreans. My Smite was not aimed to kill Malik - rather, it was made to see how he would react.
After all, I had decided to open myself up and use some of my native power. I wanted to know how he would receive this. It was my final token during this phase of the fight. angel neutral Good | Ageless | Sexless Loner。

What felt like a lull quickly began to feel like the end. The blast came so quickly that there was barely time to process it before it hit. He'd had a few moments as the attack was charging, to prepare for action but when it went flying time was not on his side.
As the blast made contact, he found instinct guiding him, drawing his energy into a defensive form to deflect energy away from anything vital, but his perceptions also revealed enough in that microsecond of contact to show him a different way he could respond.
Energy against energy, momentum against momentum. He transferred his gathered defense into a more active counter of the focused blast.
It left his footing unstable and his light more dim than it had been before, but determination still radiated from him. Deep breaths, unnecessary as the habit was became a grounder, allowing him to consciously draw support from the environment, and fend off the exhaustion that stemmed from the amount of energy he'd needed to expend. Amitiel So, that was it. Expectations met. Exceeded, even.
Malik was truly a specimen to be admired. I could see why so many things in the universe wanted him. He was a powerful young thing; his ancestry made sure that he held sufficient raw power.
Yet, it was the indomitable will of a human that kept him going. It made that power all the greater. Even for something like me, that was foreign. It made him fundamentally different than all other celestials I'd met over the eons.
My wings disappeared, and I gave him a round of applause. "You are very strong, Malik. Very, very strong," I moved toward the boy, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I believe your growth will be swifter than you think."
I only wished for one thing right now. "Would you like to rest... and continue?" angel neutral Good | Ageless | Sexless Loner。

It seemed this time was time-out for real. The angel had gone to look deceptively mortal again, with words of praise to speak.
He was strong. The affirmation was reassuring, in a way that it wouldn't have been even a month ago. Strength was something he could be confident in.
He gathered his energy, as much as he could, carefully removing the appearance of wings, and bringing his light into a more condensed state than his drained but battle-ready one. He still felt the strain of his efforts so far, but if he'd heard the angel right, he could have a chance to recover before continuing.
Nodding as he straightened up, Malik agreed on one point and consented on the other. He could foresee himself making progress in a way he hadn't been able to before. He was also willing to continue willing to try out the many things that now seemed possible.
But why be idle in rest? "Even if we're not going at it, I think I'll be able to pick some stuff up now. There's a lot of stuff I knew in my head that I didn't know how to start to act on. More of its making sense." He explained. That meant other ways of learning could come back into play. Jay.

Amitiel Proactive. I liked that. He was on a roll and wanted to continue. "Well... I guess we could," I turned to my left. Next to us, the plane began to change, and a forest - mighty and beautiful - sprung forth. It was lush, scenic, and utterly pure. Vessatali's Forest, remade. Not entirely, but enough to show itself. "Follow me?" I said to Malik, walking down a pathway leading into the trees. I would try my hardest here. I was not Lady Vessa, but I would try. EXIT. angel Neutral Good | Ageless | Sexless Loner。

It was amazing how this world seemed to change without much more than a thought. Now that Malik is able to pause and think about it, its even more amazing that the previous garden landscape remained perfectly intact despite the amount of sparring which had just occurred. Things remain perfectly in place. Even as it shifts seamlessly to a forest, things remain in some way orderly, like it had been here all along instead of sprouting from nowhere. Its like how someone's idea of a perfect forest might be. The trees seem to possess their own silent large presence, humming and alive.
"How'd you do that? change the terrain I mean? Malik can't help but ask. Though drawing power from himself for various actions seems to make sense now, this appears to be something different, more connected to the realm itself. He knows that he will have answers in Amitiel's time, unless they are to things that are for one reason or another not for him to know.
The thoughts in his head are curious and excited, almost fitting for a young child, as he follows the angel deeper into the heavenly realm.
