What in the hell was going on.
If the vending machine had a mind --which it definitely did not, at all-- and a mouth and some legs, it would have told the fighting duo off and been on its way. Instead, the building seemed to make a creaking sound while the two rumbled together.
By the time the chinchilla had been flung away and then dumbly returned to the child's side, tugging at the human's clothes, the vending machine's light had started flickering more often. And then it shut off completely, leaving the room in total darkness. The creaking sound got suspiciously louder.
If neither moved, they might soon find themselves being crushed by a toppling vending machine. On the plus side, their broken bodies would have all the expired food they could possibly want.

If only the rodent had begged like that at the beginning instead of biting and scratching and fighting for it. Shiren might have shared once she'd filled her own bag. (She could be kind to the little guy...sometimes) To be honest, if shiren wanted something someone else had she would have done the same thing Miju had. She too would have fought, scratching and biting to see if she could get what she wanted that way. Unfortunatly shiren didn't associate that fact with the little rodent's actions, and paid her little heed while she finished filling her shirt-bag with snacks.
She was cut off abruptly by a creeking sound.
Sensing danger, and the slightest of forward movements from the machine, the child jumped away, and just in time, as the lights went out and the thing crashed on the ground face, trapping its unclaimed food inside it.
It was dark, very dark. Shiren would have appreciated a light, but thanks to the way her brain was wired, she was better off than many humans would have been in a similar situation. Shiren held her shirt-bag tight, and listened, trying to see what she could locate in the dark. She didn't think there would be any more food for her to grab. Time to see if she could get out of here instead.

The little desperate animal was about ready to give up. There was nothing else she could possibly think of! Baby Doll Eyes didn't work? What kind of heartless monster wouldn't be moved by a Minccino's Baby Doll Eyes? Well, whatever the case, the Wild Pokemon slumped down onto her belly as she felt tears slowly stream down her eyes. This was it. This was her last chance to save herself from starvation, and she blew it. The Minccino, as stubborn as she was, battled against the idea of jumping into the bag again. There wasn't really any point now. This human was so big, and she was so little and frail.
The Minccino's ears flopped down as she began moving herself and her starving self away from the scene. If lightning would strike her right then and there and kill her, she didn't really even care at the moment.
...That is, until she heard the machine creaking.
In an instant, an adrenaline rush consumed the terrified Minccino, and without even thinking, dived into the deepest hiding spot she could find! Once the noise calmed down, and the lights flickered off, the quiet little chinchilla uncovered her brown eyes with her paws and realized she was back in the bag. The little Minccino moved her paw slightly, but then realized that she wasn't being attacked.
That crash created a diversion! The Minccino was safe from the girl's wrath... for now. Even if the lights were on, this time the little chinchilla had covered herself with so many snacks that there was no way the girl could see her. Now, she needed to remain as still and as quiet as possible, and to see how this plays out. The opportunity to claim her prize would surely come, hopefully before she died of starvation.

Precisely sixty seconds would pass before some light returned to the pair's eyes. In the hallway leading away from the cramped room where the vending machine was tucked, a series of paired, small red lights blinked into life in the creases of the ceiling, turning on first from the distance as the lights ran along towards the two, ending just short of their heads. It wasn't much: the glow cast off from the lamps was so dim that one could barely see the shadows on the floor.

There shouldn't have been a chance for the rodent to get back inside shiren's bag by the way she had been holding it, but somehow it had been done. Shiren would not be happy when she found out.
There was no access to any more food from the machine, but at least there was light. The scavenger child was faced with having to choose. would she follow it? what had happened to the window from which she had come in? that should be the closest way out but she didn't see it. That was the way she rather go out but it seemed to have vanished, leaving some glass, but no opening through which to crawl.
It had to be there somewhere. Shiren hit the wall with the palm of her hand. She had dropped the makeshift club at some point, and it was now stuck under the machine. She had not tried to get it out since she had seen that that wouldn't be possible.
Of course getting out through what was now a wall was equally impossible, but there should be a window. She should be able to get out that way, so she had to try the wall before she tried some other way. She didn't want to go deeper into the building after all. Even to her, that was a little scary.

The window was well and gone. There was clearly nothing there, and yet, when the human slapped at the wall with her hand, she might find her fingers brushing against a dent. Minuscule, easy to miss, and surely little of note; what wall didn't have dents, after all? Especially in such an old building. As if to emphasize its oldness, or perhaps because the human had hit some sort of structural sore spot, the building gave a creaky groan.
The lights behind her flickered once, one bulb hissing as it cracked and went out entirely.

Shiren turned her head at the sound of breaking in time to notice the absense of one light. Okay she definitely didn't want to go that way as long she had a choice in the matter.
The wall seemed pretty solid, but the way the building seemed to respond made shiren wonder.
It might not be rational, but she set down her shirt-bag at her feet, balled up her hands into fists and began pounding on the wall as if that would somehow prompt further progress into getting out.

Damn them smart cookies. Damn them to heffle!
The pounding yielded results, though, like the vending machine, it wasn't immediate. The wall cracked similarly to glass at the poundings, the dent in the wall deepening and widening at the base of said crack.
After enough poundings, the wall fell apart where the original had been, revealing...not the outside. Instead, there was a white room lit up so brightly, so stark in contrast from the darkness the human's eyes had grown accustomed to, that surely she would be blinded for a few moments.
When she could see again, however, she would be able to peer through the window-positioned-and-shaped hole to see that the white room was empty, although, if she leaned in far enough, there was a wooden door just out of sight, white paint peeling from its paneling.

Shiren held her bruised hands together and whimpered at the sudden bright light. It was expected that outdoors would be brighter. What was not expected was that the space was not outdoors, but a brighter room, as she saw once her eyes adjusted. The child mewled in dismay, confused as to how this somehow had been transfigured from the way she had come. Yet it was better than the dark space. Shiren was tired of the dark space.
She took her bag back up in her hands, and entered the white space, looking around now that she could see clearly until she spotted the door. Maybe that was the way out. Shiren decided to try it, and approached. Hopefully it wasn't locked.

The door wasn't locked. It was a little heavy, so might take some shoving, but it would open up into a room almost exactly like the first, with a similarly peeling white door on the opposite wall from this one, and a splash of red paint on the floor in the center of the room.

Eventually, the door opened revealing another similar room. A animal-like growl rose from shiren. This was getting frustrating. The most annoying feature aside from not getting out yet was the red on the floor. At least it wasn't yellow. Yellow was a terrible color.
Groaning in annoyance, the girl plopped herself on the floor for the moment, and began digging in the shirt bag. She could keep trying to work her way out, but for the moment she thought it might be a better use of her time to eat something, especially after having worked to hard to get a hold of some food.

Miju thought about bolting for it the moment the girl had put the bag down. However, from the moment the girl began bashing the wall down, the little chinchilla had been slowly and quietly stuffing food into her mouth. She waited, and was very patient. She could have bolted the moment the girl placed her bag down, but that would have posed many risks. That was her one opportunity to, maybe, get out unnoticed, but this was not meant to be as the girl dug into her bag.
Shiren may have been surprised that what she saw wasn't just food. Or, rather, food didn't even take up the majority of the bag anymore. Inside, with cheeks filled with candy, was the same little Minccino that had battled with the little girl before. The little chinchilla didn't even give the girl a moment to be shocked before using the arm she stuck into the bag for leverage, and bolting for the other direction, back into the building. A good majority of the food in her mouth, the frantic little rodent ignored her injuries as she ran on all fours in an adrenaline rush. That had to be a place to hide.
The Minccino dashed through the door that had been opened, through the hole the young girl had broken a hole through and back into the same, dark room that the girl seemed to be afraid of. Sure, the darkness was daunting, didn't bother the nocturnal rodent one bit. Her whole self, though plenty capable of living in the day time as well, did their best work at night.
So, hoping that there was some kind of hiding spot, without hesitation, the Minccino dashed down the hallway where the little girl dared not too, cheeks filled with treats. Now, if only she could find a place to hide, then maybe she'd be able to feast in peace.

Flaming Entrails! that little rodent had just stolen half of shiren's food and then ran off. Shiren made a failed grab for the little ankle biter. Shoot.
Shiren looked in her shirt-bag to see what remained, and decided she was better off just eating it before anyone took anything else, than to give chase to the little rodent. Good thing shiren had managed to get much more than a rodent could carry from the machine.
As far as she was concerned, the new plan of action was the old plan. She pulled off the wrapper to one of the slightly too-aged sandwiches, and began with that. It wasn't very good, but the child didn't care.

After a while, the Minccino skidded to a halt, letting out a bit of a whimper upon realizing she was no longer being followed. Really? Had she lost the girl that quickly? Miju found that hard to believe, but was she about to waste this head start by rushing into a whole lot of nothing? Well, of course not. First of all, the Minccino's adrenaline rush had died down, and no way was she going to waste energy running away from something that wasn't even chasing her. Aside from that, having so much candy in her cheeks didn't make moving all that easy. At least, it didn't make running all that easy.
Whatever the case, Miju still needed to find a place to eat in peace. Perhaps a corner, or even a closet of some kind? Just because the little girl wasn't chasing her didn't mean that all of the Minccino's troubles were over. She was very small, a prey animal. Just about everything could be seen as a threat, and she was far too young to do much to defend herself aside from running and biting and slapping.
She'd honestly settle for anywhere safe and out of sight, as long as she could find it.

The chinchilla would soon find that the hall seemed to stretch on without end. Not only that, but the further along she went, the darker the red lights became.
On the bright side, one of those doggy doors seemed to have been misplaced along the wall.
Meanwhile, back in white room ville, the red paint on the floor started to creep slowly along the floor, bleeding through all the pristine white. A drop of yellow paint fell from the ceiling, and began to spread along through the red splash.
