For an eokian city, The northeastern city-state of Sol was very modern. The road leading to it testified to that clearly as jt was well paved and lit from below with magically charged light-blocks, as well as from above by regularly spaced lamps. Neither were operating at this time of course, for it was broad daylight. The vehicles that traveled from Sol to the outskirting lands were as varied as the beings who called Eokia home, from slave pulled cart to flying carpet, to variations on the automobile, run by a magically synthesized crystal. Clearly the residents were of a humanoid-centric majority, though most only looked the part, possessing natures belonging to anything but the typical non-magical man.
The city ran like clockwork. Every person both slave and free, and every magical Atomatron had its place in the economic machine.
A unicycle-like magical servant frantically ran messages from run end of the dusty city to another. The governor wanted all sorts of this and thats done before the shipment from Sonlas reached Sol's single hybrid magical air and shipping port within the hour. The Sonlas shipment would be on time of course. They were very good at being punctual despite the magical storms that tended to rise up near the barrier. Sol, on the other hand, their return shipment inventory was not fully accounted for yet. Some small miscalculation lead to a few fewer slaves than the agreed upon amount, among other lacking contents. Of course the poor clerk who'd made the mistake was now one of the cargo, along with several other lower ranking and easily replaced men who had been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It began as a wavering in the air, like a heat ripple in a desert, in a back corner near a servant's door to the governor's towering estate. The wavering grew, and solidified the space between door and wall to look like a small passage no more than six inches wide running all the way from one end to the other side of the wall of the building. It was tall though, than that was enough.
Unicycle based magical Automatron didn't stand a chance as its components were crushed by a giant hand which came out from the minuscule gap. A body followed that, squeezing out of the hole as though it had no bones, not even a skull to dictate a fixed width smaller than which it shouldn't be able to fit. It ignored the rubble of the poor little magical tin-pot of a creation. It knew it needed to move. More were coming after it, some more vicious than he.
It ran like a gorilla, on its knuckles as more beasts, from wisp like creatures of soul and madness, that though not monstrous by themselves turned their victims into monsters, to hounds of shadow hunting for the kill, to plant like vines growing out from the place, slowly destroying the buildings around them as they dug into magically augmented stone, and acted as an expedited force of entropy.
By the time the screams began, these and more had already gotten out, chased on their heels by something worse, something that would not allow them to remain idle or comfortable at home.

Among the chaos, another rift had opened up above the city, pitch black with shadowy tendrils seeping out like fingers attempting to rip apart a wall. It got larger by the second, the rip in space extending outward to allow more of these tendrils to aid in opening the barrier. A stream of black particles fell to the street below like sand in an hourglass, pooling into a throbbing pile.
As the rip got bigger, the more of this sand-like particles fell in bigger clumps. From a soothing hiss, the sound grew to clanks, as if pots and pans were falling from the sky. The citizens avoided this spot like a plague, but so did most of the monsters.
The black heap started to gravitate together like a gold sheet into a drop of mercury. It solidified, taking the form of a creature on its hands and knees. It groaned out hellishly as the humanoid form took shape. A red glow emanated from its core, filtering out through gaps in its shifting body. The more human it looked, the less hellish its screams became until it stopped and the creature picked itself up.
Roy looked around, diving out of the way of an on-coming stampede through a shop window. He was greeted with a shrill shriek and a hit to his head by a wooden chair that broke on impact. He stood up and glared at the woman who was shivering in the corner. "Where am I?" he asked her but she only seemed to become paler at this point. He turned to the ruckus outside and saw the demonic creature's effects when coming into contact with humans. Or what he thought were humans. It was hard to tell.
When faced with an invasion of demons, one had little time to ponder how they came to such a place and on such a time. However, he did know that he would rather take his chances with humanoids than demons. He put himself in between the woman and the demons outside. There had to be a way to get out of this place.

Demon. It had to be another of the demons, for the particle being had come like them. looked like them, and for all first impressions, was part of the same cohort when it came to supernatural aura. Eyes cast about for either a new weapon or a way out, a way to get away from the approaching demonic-looking man.
There was the door, but she had barred it with shelves and merchandise. There was the window as well, broken glass scattered on the floor in front of the now exposed opening. That would be the best chance to get out of the building, especially since it was now clear that the demons could get in with ease.
Outside though, the chaos.
A beast jumped on a trained soldier, biting off his head. Two humanoid demons fought claw to claw creating destruction in their wake as they pulled up paving stones and slammed one another into buildings. Bright bolts of light streaked down as a magic user from an unseen vantage point brought down one of the monsters as it passed in front of the window. Automatron parts, cogs and bent clockwork for the magically animated constructs, scattered across the street becoming sharp bits under foot as automatrons ended up caught in the crossfire. Nameless

"This... This doesn't look good at all..." He had dealt with demons before, and he never enjoyed the buildup. It was alright if he knew what to do, but these might be completely out of his league as far as he knew. He pulled his arm up to the opposite shoulder and whipped it diagonally to the side. A sword took shape; black steel with electric-like flickers running down the blade and the air a few inches around it. Roy glanced back to the woman. It was safe to assume she wouldn't last by herself. It was also safe to assume that she didn't trust him. Likewise, it was a little dumb to go out when he could possibly be shot at by the demons and the humans. Although... the demons did seem to be fighting themselves. Was this a civil war? Oh he loved those things. He reached his hand out in an open gesture while keeping an eye on the window and the carnage beyond it. "I don't normally play the hero, but if you can understand me and want a shot at surviving the demons, then take my hand." Of course, his mind was already set. He was gonna try to get this girl to safety whether she wanted him to or not. He just wanted to sound cool saying all that stuff.

While the stranger was wasting time speaking, a bolt came down from above. Large heavy chunks of the wood and brick structure fell inwards, transforming the store into a cloud of dust and splinters as the portions from the roof fell on objects below with unconditional ruthlessness. There was a scream, and the canopy of the sound as things in the store snapped and shattered. The woman definitely had no chance to move before it all had fallen. Somewhere beneath all the heavy dust, was the metallic smell of blood.

Okay... okay... that wasn't part of the plan. Roy had no time to react to that, and so found himself under the rubble. If it weren't for his malleability, he'd be laying there broken and dead. Similarly to a creature made of goo, he reformed above the debris, visually unscathed. He formed a black blob in his hand and threw it to where the woman would have been, and it seeped into the debris like it was a sponge pile. He wanted to see what the girl's condition was. If she was still breathing, he'll know. For now however, he was taking a stance. As the dust settled, he could see the forms of curious demons. The sword reformed into a bow, and as he pulled the string back, an arrow formed and soon flew towards the chest area of the demonic figure that growled like a beast.

Time was of essence. Even the time necessary to shoot an arrow towards the heart of a demon took out precious seconds from the woman's swiftly fading lifeforce, her head caved in, her bones broken. Chances were high that she wouldn't survive even if quality care could be swiftly found.
The arrow on the other did little damage, and served to anger the large demonic entity who had been targeted. The beast launced itself forwards, ready to crush destroy and rend. Nameless

Having found the dying woman underneath the debris, Roy expended more of his nanites to form a bubble around the woman that slowly expanded to lift the debris off of of the woman and relieve some pressure. Any metallic debris would also be 'eaten' up by the nanites and converted into more of itself to aid with freeing the woman. As the beast jumped towards him, Roy charged in himself in order to keep the demon off the rubble. Heavy wisps trailed him and spread out, soon taking his exact form to feint having a large number of combatants that charged in as well after Roy. He didn't have time to make sure the beast was incapacitated. As soon as the debris had ample space, the bubble erupted outward to reveal the ghastly sight. The nanites then covered the woman in a full-body brace as the shadow-creatures Roy created attempted to keep the demon busy. The brace would minimize any further damage Roy would have done to her as he picked her up and ran of to the main street. @loner

The demon tried hard to get past the clones, ramming into one with its large crown of horns. Against a mortal, or even some other demons the force would have broken bones, with ease.
The monster's hide resisted blows as well as it tried to reach, ideally, the flesh and blood of the humanoid woman, or land an effective blow on the particle being. Yet it quickly forgot about the escapees when they were out of sight and it engaged in the fight.
A powerful magical arrow nearly hit the two, Roy being mistaken as a demonic entity by the other natives who were trying to fight them off. The arrow stuck in the ground a few paces ahead, sizzling for a moment before it exploded in a small ball of electrical energy.
Meanwhile the woman's vitals continued to decline, she was no longer breathing on her own, and her heartbeat dangerously unsteady.

The clones weren't built to stand against a demon with such force, and practically broke apart into what looked like a combination of smoke and dust. Roy was glad that the demon had a short attention span, however he was annoyed when an explosive arrow cut him off. The sizzling tipped him off of the nature of the arrow, and he quickly constructed a crude outcrop to shield him and the woman from the blast. "If a human shot that, I'M ONE OF YOU, YOU DOLT!" He wasn't sure how that would be taken, but he wasn't going to stand around. Too many demons. He had to find someone who could heal this girl. Assuming magic existed here in that form. Still, with the woman so close to dying, he was wondering if he should inject some of his nanomachines into her bloodstream to at least keep her blood pumping. Actually, he'd probably need to do that. His nanites had already coated her open wounds to stop any more blood from escaping her, but the internal damage she suffered also needed help. As he continued looking for a safe place, he filtered in the microscopic devices and set them to correct and reinforce the dent in the girl's head. Something he should have done first to relieve the brain of any undue pressure. The process was gentle, however if there was already damage done to the brain, then there was nothing he could do about that except stop if from getting worse. He kept a close eye on her condition. While he couldn't know her exact state, he could feel her breathing and heartbeat. 'Why am I even doing this?'

In this chaos no one would even hear such a protest. Gunning down threats was more Important than checking to see if they really were threats. Some of the demons had already quite literally compromised the bodies of friends and neighbors using them as puppets to fight with. As had happened with some kin of that one who had shot the arrow. He aimed another and sent it flying, willing to shoot roy even with his back turned.
The woman's condition stablized slightly, though the condition of her mind was still definitely unknown. At least her body should survive if roy got out of here with her safely.

Whoever shot at him got a direct hit, causing the nanosoldier to fall over. Or so it would seem. As he passed an area consumed by shadows thanks to the towering smoke overhead blocking out the sun, Roy had concealed himself, letting a simple construct run out into the open and take the arrow for him while he turned a corner. He didn't get the lay of the land, but he'd eventually get to a safe place, right? Well, from glances of the other people fighting off the monsters, he could assume that the demons were... slightly less dense here. That was a good thing. Next up, find some do-gooders and hope one of them could help the girl. When a dead end was coming up, caused by a collapsed building, he turned back to the main street, looking a lot less like a demon, and more like a wanderer in leather apparel, with bits of metal armor strewn about his vital areas. He figured that should stop most people from firing at him. He kept the cast on the girl's body however, otherwise this running around would have been a bit more painful for her. She seemed unconscious, so that would probably not be much of a problem unless she wasn't fully unconscious, in which case... it wouldn't have been pleasant. "Hey! I need help over here!" he called out to whoever looked like they could be useful.

A family of five rushed by trying to escape the chaos. The mother held a baby in tow, while the father held the hands of the other two.
A shadow looked over them and then... Blood stained the ground, the whole group headless before a single one fell to the ground.
The panic of the witnesses grew. Some stared dumbstruck as statues. Some ran around senseless as if headless themselves, too fearful to pick a direction.
Within the chaos people tried to flee, caring more about the survival of their kin than their neighbors.
Demon and man alike fell sporadically in similar follow up strikes, the entity doing the killing moving faster than the human eye could track.
Then a person began to appear in the scattered group. present only for a moment, he touched one or two, and then vanished with them, taking a few at a time away from the scene.
A presence could be felt suddenly appearing nearby. There would be little time to guess if it was friend or foe. Nameless

Okay, it would seem no one was interested in saving anyone except themselves. Well, save for that one bloke who seemed to be teleporting one or two people at a time. Were they friendly? Did they take those people straight back to the middle of that hellhole? Why did he even care to think about that now? Well, truth be told, he was hoping that the woman he was holding would be the next one to go with them. He couldn't get a good look at the teleporting savior/demon feeder, but there was something much more... heavy in the air. He could feel it. A presence that he had a bad feeling about. As he continued to run towards the outskirts of the town, Roy decided to leave something behind to slow down the demons on his trail, and to maybe assist the people who fought and didn't immediately die. Every few steps, some generic-looking shadow minions appeared on his flanks. Featureless except for their vaguely humanoid look, and swords. They fought off the demons if only to slow them down, but it allowed Roy to better see what was happening behind him. If it weren't for the woman's broken bones, he would have animated the 'suit' around her and had it run for her out the city. But nooo, she had to have a building fall on her. Was that too harsh? This line of thought almost made Roy slap himself in the face. Why didn't he think to have a construct carry her out of here?! It would have saved time, and he could have enjoyed himself slaying the damned demons.

The rescuer had some trouble as the shadow clones got in the way of a rescue.
but eventually, contact. If all worked out, Roy and his cargo would find themselves ported out of there, and to a much quieter place where other escapees had been being brought. Nameless
