Ka'athla Nurmiin
remnant of the oryon
NAME: Ka'athla Nurmiin
SEX: Female
GENDER: Female
AGE: Appears 31, actual age unknown.
AFFILIATION: Wanderer
RACE / SPECIES: Oryon
SCHOOL: Yvnnë
ABILITIES: Trained in the passionate styles of the Yvnnë, Ka'athla was effecient at healing and battle alike. Though she had never killed another living being--the Yvnnë prohibited it--her skills with a staff, combined with the immense medical knowledge that the school demanded its students learn, meant that she was able to disarm and (sometimes permanently) disable opponents, eliminating the need to kill. In particular, she was known for being lightning fast with her bo staff--against the Infestation, however, she prefers a modified monk's spade.
Her participation in the Synda's final rite--The Gazing--granted her the ability to manipulate void energy for a variety of purposes. Standard training for all Synda who made it past through the rite included learning how to make a "Void Pulse", how to temporarily phase in and out of the Void to avoid detection, and how to 'teleport' through the Void to a location within line-of-sight. Yvnnë students also learned how to manipulate the Void energy for healing and medical purposes; her own body heals minor and moderate injuries at a rate similar to Marvel's "Wolverine", but she is far from indestructable--severed limbs would not grow back, and a wound to the heart would require urgent medical attention.
EQUIPMENT:
Bo Staff - Rather than wood, Oryon bo staves are made from a metal alloy. Each end is weighted identically to give the otherwise feather-light weapon the momentum necessary to inflict damage. The ends glow to allow the wielder the ability to keep track of the weapon while in combat. It is about eight feet long.
Modified Monk's Spade - The entirety of the weapon is made from a metal alloy, similar to the bo staff. Unlike a normal monk's spade, however, the one that Ka'athla wields features a longer, sharpened "spade" with a slot to catch weapons and limbs--the crescent on the otherside has been replaced with a counterweight. At only six feet long, it was one of the shortest staff-type weapons the Oryon used.
APPEARANCE: Average height for an Oryon woman, Ka'athla stands at about 5'11" and weighs somewhere between 140 lbs and 150 lbs. Incredibly trim, she has little in the way of "curves". She keeps her short silvery hair in a half-ponytail of sorts; the sides and back are kept back and out of the way, while her bangs are swept to the side. Example. Although trained to move and act with fluidity on the battlefield, she's actually quite stiff outside of combat.
In Oryon society, casual attire ammounted to what were essentially futuristic coveralls; boots and gloves were standard as well. They were form fitting, and made of synthetic material that resisted tearing and breakage; most often, they were dark grey around the shoulders and black everywhere else, though other colors were available for different occupations--white was standard for medical personnel. In addition to this, due to her status as Yvnnë, Ka'athla wore what could be described as a tutlenecked cardigan; after the shoulders, the overgarment is open in front and falls somewhere around her knees, while long sleeves cover her arms up to her wrists.
PERSONALITY: Upon first meeting Ka'athla, one might assume that she has the personality of a particular android from a popular science-fiction series; she often fails to understand certain kinds of humor, laces common statements with technical and medical jargon, and frequently monologues about whatever topic might interest her, whether someone is listening or not. Behind the somewhat robotic outer crust, however, lies something much more human.
Ka'athla--Athie, to friends--was, and still is, a highly empathetic person. If someone is having a bad day, she feels it; her emotional perception of others is second to none, and it caused problems early on in her training. She'd refuse orders because they made her buddy for the assignment uncomfortable; she'd start crying or become emotional at the thought of having to harm someone or something. Emotionally volatile, she received the butt end of many punishments during her first several years: cleaning detail, withheld meals, and a myriad of other humiliating punishments...yet, it still didn't "toughen her up" as the elders had hoped. She made it through, however, with the help of a friend--that same friend, later on, she had to duel to earn the title "Synda".
Painfully shy growing up, she retained her quiet nature into adulthood. She rarely talked about personal things, instead prefering to discuss intellectual or creative matters--music, art, or the sciences were her favorite topics. She lacked attatchment to acquaintances, always keeping even her closest friends at a distance.
