Open to Animals/Creatures/Spirits/Daemons only
Taige was currently lying down on a tree branch, looking down at what was a path that others walked quite a bit. Lately, things had been happening that he didn't know the answer to, mostly with himself. He had a lot of thoughts in his head on what he should be and where he should go. Since something that he had looming over him in the past was now back, so he needed to find an answer soon. But he was having troubles with that, which is why he was waiting for someone to show up: So he can try to bounce ideas off them to help himself.

A stake in the ground, a stake in the fruit, a stake in the spine, a stake in the life!
A dark, furry nose pressed itself to the forest floor, beady black eyes rolling about the ember flecks spattered within. Thin whiskers, slicked-down straight until they went crooked at the end, twitched in tandem with a pair of tall, round tufted ears. The fuzzy white tip of an otherwise dark and hairless tail swung about on the end, a pendulum in motion, while fat haunches wriggled excitedly.
Between the wooden stakes that had been driven into the ground, treading through the grasses on the edge of a dirt path...was a pair of shiny jade beetles. Two mice -- one a big grasshopper, the other a tiny woodland jumping -- sat beside the sticks, intently watching the beetles' progress through the makeshift maze. The dull-colored, grasshopper mouse sat back with arms crossed, a confident smile creasing his lips, while the brightly hued jumping mouse lay crouched down, very close to the efforts at hand, watching with an intent eye and a gay grin.
"Come on comeon comeoncomeoncomeoooooooooon!" the woodland mouse muttered into the ground, pounding a fist into the soil. His ears perked as one beetle began to climb up one of the stakes. "Yes...yes--yes!"
Pressure came onto the small mouse's neck, who was roughly yanked back by the much larger mouse. The brownish mouse frowned at him as he pushed himself free, hopping back into the action, only now with the slightest bit of difference in his distance, an agreeable grunt sounding off from behind him.
The orange mouse again pressed himself very close to the ground, nose turned upwards as he ground his teeth to a pulp. The beetle on the stake was just sitting there; meanwhile, the other beetle, which had been casually threading its way through the blades of grass, suddenly lifted its elytra -- and then...off it went.
The orange mouse howled, as though in agony, falling backwards where he then flailed about helplessly, letting loose an ear-splitting scream -- well, ear-splitting, perhaps, only to other mice. The second beetle then also flew away, and he paused his tantrum to watch it go, glinting in the sunlight before disappearing into the shade of the forest beyond. He gave one last futile wiggle, before pushing himself back up, glaring with folded back ears at the other mouse's smug, triumphant face.

As Taige kept his eyes on the road, he eventually caught the scent and sounds of mice. His body immediately perked up once he realized what it was. He licked his lips, predatory instincts kicking in as he hopped off the tree he was on and began to pick up the trail of where the mice were. Because this was instincts, he wasn't realizing what he was doing as he got low onto the ground and began to move quietly to where he heard the sound, hoping it could be something good.

Grumbling, the orange mouse crossed his arms and watched as, one by one, the grasshopper mouse began to shove a bundle of nuts and seeds into his arms. The small mouse huffed, falling flat on his belly, while the other began to haul away the load. His tail twitched lazily, fingers tapping in bored defeat, listening to the sounds of the retreating mouse...and something else.
The orange mouse pushed himself up slightly, ears twisting around, nose following. Something was moving in the brush, coming his way. The woodland jumping mouse hopped on top of one of the short twigs, long tail wrapping around it as he stood tall, peering over the grass blades to see a body stalking through the thicket. A moment of pause with the twitching of a nose, breathing in the scents on the wind, and he could tell that the beast was some species of feline.
The mouse grinned -- now THIS could be something. Dropping back to the forest floor, he crawled on over to the base of a tree, where he began to root about with nose and paws. Like a dumb mouse seeking only food to fill his belly (which, in part, was exactly what he was doing), he feigned ignorance of the feline's presence, though the corners of his senses remained trained on where it was. A noticeable crunch would be heard while he purposefully began stepping on dead, noisy leaves, hoping it would notice him...and pounce.

Taige got closer and closer to the scent he had found before. It was a smell that sent his taste buds into overdrive. He licked his lips again at the thought of eating the mouse. He did hear the crunching of leaves when he got to a tree, meaning that he was close enough to the mouse, presumably. He remained quiet as he roamed around the tree, using his nose to follow where the scent went.

The mouse tapped about the small roots of the tree, nibbling stupidly on a patch of moss and flicking his tail while he waited. What in the heck was that feline doing? He sat up, paws to his hips as he glared about the tree. It was circling around and taking forever, and, after the bit with the beetles, he had no more patience to offer!
Hopping from root to root until he managed to catch sight of the cat, the mouse then bounced himself off of the tree's rock, leaping backwards towards the stranger with one foot out and tail whirling about behind him, hoping to knock the tall feline hard across the jaw.

Taige saw something jump out at him from the side of his eyesight. Reactively, he sent out a gust of wind at the thing flying at him, hoping to stop it in his tracks and let him get his bearings again.

Something hit him. Not a paw or a head, but...was it wind?
The mouse was knocked back to the ground, a pause and a short groan escaping his lips, before he hastily hopped back to his feet, looking up at the imposing (from his point of view) figure of the long-legged feline.
His long tail flicked out, recognizing that the odd gust which had sent him down could mean this beast knew some manner of wind manipulation. Well, two could play at that game. Leaping high, his tail suddenly burst into flames, and again he lashed out at the stranger, this time swinging his tail while he spun about.
"Work up my hunger, CAT!" he squeaked into the air, hoping to goad it into fighting back.

Taige soon saw what he had hit: It was a mouse. He had found the mouse, and he licked his lips. He did get hit by the fire tail, but he made wind gust on him to extinguish the flames. He simply snapped his jaws at the mouse, hoping to catch it in his mouth.

Success! The mouse grinned, when he saw his tail set the cat's fur ablaze...only to have the flames mysteriously go away in yet another gust of purposeful wind, wholly confirming his suspicions as far as he was concerned. He frowned, even if only briefly; all this meant was that the battle could be more interesting.
Or, at least-- there was a yank, but no wind, and a sharp pain in his tail. The mouse twisted himself around to see his tail had been caught. Growling, he grabbed his tail and gave himself a hard tug, a lick of fire kissing at the cat's jaws, until the skin from his white tail-tip had pulled free, and he was back on the ground, no less worse for the wear but for a burning pinch on the tail's skinned tip.
All right, maybe he should aim elsewhere for this foe. Hardly pausing, the mouse began hopping around the feline, seeking out a vulnerable area he could get to without getting snatched up in those jaws.

Taige didn't let his mouth burn as the tail lit on fire again. Growing bored of this little game and his wild instincts still in overdrive, he decided to try to end this little game, with or without the mouse falling to him. Taige observed where the rat was going, and created a gust of wind to where they would be going to stop them again. He then brought his claws down to the rat, as fast as the wind to hopefully either end this or get the other to stop.

Another wind knocked him down, once more blowing out the fuse on his tail. The mouse snorted, then his eyes widened, and he rolled himself out of the way just before sharp claws could pierce his small body.
Without thinking about it, the mouse hopped to his feet, and began to jump the other way, disappearing into the grasses. This just wasn't his day.
The brief instinctual takeover was soon forced out of the way, however, the mouse whirling back around, ready to face the feline again, assuming it had come chasing after him, prepared to light his tail aflame once more. If the feline refused to continue falling to his goading and playing this game, well, he supposed that he was beginning to get hungry, so perhaps an actual search for food would rather be preferred.

Taige growled when his claw missed the mouse. Taige began to sniff around again before his instincts began to die down. When they did, he looked around. He knew the mouse was still here. "If you stop attacking me, I'll stop attacking you." He said.

Ears lifted towards the sound of a voice. Oh, so the cat COULD talk, eh? But he spoke such boring things!
Hopping forward, the mouse found a small pile of rocks, onto which he climbed, standing tall so that his bright body might better be seen through the dark grasses. Straight ahead was the feline, looking around for him.
"Aw, come on, fella; don't be like that," he squeaked to the cat, smiling. "I was only funnin'. Guess yer not the fightin' type, eh?" Whiskers twitched, his face expressing clear disappointment towards any such revelation, but remaining friendly nonetheless. He tapped his tail against the rocks, small sparks spraying from the impact.

Taige shook his head. "Not really, no. The only reason I did just now was because of wild instincts kicking in. Not like I could really help that." He said, still cautious of the mouse, in case they tried to attack again.
