You saw it sitting there, taunting you. It sat alone in a dark corner, deep in the bowels of the old building, instead of at the entrance like it should have been. As though it were trying to hide.
The doors were locked. The windows around it were pitch black. But, much as it tried, it could not hide, for its face glowed in the darkness.
The light flickered, an almost otherworldly blue, its innards exposed to your prying eyes -- but not to your pawing hands. Encased by protective glass, the [crispy] chips, [stale] cookies, [moldy] sandwiches, and other such packaged snacks leered at you from within.
The vending machine hummed. Victory...for now.

The machine was taunting her, holding food that was easily seen by its blue light.
For any other child, it would be too much work to get to, but the scavenger child didn't have many options. She had to take whatever she could get her hands on.
The problem was the glass.
Since doors were locked and she didn't have a way through except the window.
She wished she had a heavy rock to use, but in this place it was hard to find big rocks. There was concrete sometimes but that was often too big. What else was there? A metal pipe just out of reach, and trash, that may or may not have something heavy enough for the job.
The girl decided to search through the trash. If she found food in there she might have chosen to give up on breaking into the vending machine, but in this decrepit place no one threw away food.
Finally she found the desired tool, it was a steering wheel club, the kind of thing used to lock the wheel of a car into place so no one could steal the vehicle if someone broke in. They were not often in use these days as other technologies did the same job better.
Carrying it with both hands, the homeless girl trotted back to the window.
She swung the club back, then hit the window with all her strength.
If it was regular glass it would probably break.

The little nose twitched as it once again left the safety of the foliage that remained the border between her safe haven into the bitter unknown of the city. This Minccino, named Miju among the other Minccino, was moving rather swiftly and desperately. The poor thing hadn't had a decent meal in what seemed like forever! When you were a Pokemon living and trying to survive in the wild, you couldn't really gauge time all that well. Regardless, the signs were clear. The Minccino had to have spent a good two weeks at least without a decent meal, and perhaps even longer than that. Miju would never have even dreamed about entering this city, what with all of the bustling activity and predators she frankly didn't know how to deal with.
Sure, the wooded area had its fair share of predators, too, but the city had monsters that the little Minccino rightly flat out couldn't handle. House cats, dogs, foxes, any sort of scavenger was a threat to Minccino because not only were they willing to target her if they had to, they were crafty and sneaky about it as well. All in their own way. Cats had a way with their confidence. They didn't make traps or anything, but they just knew that whatever prey they had their eyes on they could get. Dogs weren't all that smart on their own, but when in a pack, they were a force to be reckoned with. There's nothing more dangerous than multiple dogs working as one. Foxes are the craftiest, sneakiest predators out there. They can be confident in their own right, but they're smarter than cats because they recognize that they have limits. They choose the most efficient route, making them the most threatening solitary predator.
Miju's ears twitched as her brown eyes caught a sight of the odd machine. Normally the hungry little Minccino wouldn't care about such things, but as she went closer, she could smell a delicious scent growing stronger as she approached. For behind the glass held all kinds of goodies! Goodies that made the Minccino's mouth water.
Miju would've dashed right for it, too, but right before she could, her instincts took over as she hid from the young woman that was trying to break into the glass. Looks like someone got to it first. Two grey ears folded down as her brown eyes saddened. She looked down at her tiny stomach and glared. No. She wouldn't walk away from this opportunity. This was the first one in who knew how long, and who knew when there was going to be another one? Miju just had to wait a little longer, and the moment they girl least suspected, the little Minccino would swoop in and claim some of those treats as her prize! If not all of them.

The machine whirred down at the small chinchilla that came wandering through the aching building, only to flee seconds after its approach. The window beside it was nothing special; after the club had been reared back with potential energy, the glass broke easily upon contact, shards collapsing unevenly from the frame and onto the rough gray carpet below.
The machine seemed to hum louder for a brief moment, clicking in the silence that followed the window's crash, as though something had just been dispensed. Nothing was, of course, for no one had slotted any cash in, but it likely wouldn't be necessary:
That club looked liked it had its own ideas.

The glass shattered thankfully inwards. Even though there were some shards still on the edge of the window, the young girl girl tossed the makeshift club in, and pulled herself over so she could get inside the building. Then she picked up her tool once more. Her feet were too callused to get cut on the glass, but the child's hands were already scraped.
Distracted for a moment by the glass, the child picked up a shard of an appealing size, and pocketed it in the pocket of her worn out shorts as a thing to keep.
Next she picked up the club. She held it in one hand, and looked at the small lacerations which she'd gotten on the other hand. As she walked to the machine, she licked away the little drops of blood that had formed from having cut herself.
For this Machine she had the same plan, as she'd decided for the window. She hit at the glass front of the machine with all her might, planning to break the glass and then take as much of the food, as she could carry with her.

The vending machine's lights flickered as the girl approached, club in hand. There was a buzz as she reared back, and a clunk as the club fell forward. Surprisingly, the machine's glassy face had not broken.
Staring into the machine's old innards, the bluish light fell into an almost sickly hue, though the change would be so subtle that only one of very high color perception would even be able to notice it. The lights inside dimmed, the alteration in illumination almost as subtle as the blue's tonal shift.
A small, almost imperceptible crack had formed where the club had hit. A few more whacks just might do the trick.

Upon the machine, which did not have food inside of it as she initially though, approached her, Miju arched her spine as she took a step back. The little Minccino was going to be far less than willing to back down from a fight in her state, and far more aggressive. Even if this machine wasn't trying to hurt her, had it taken one more step, she would have pounced. However, when the machine fled, Miju's flight signal flared and she ran a few inches away before turning back to the smell of the food. When she heard the glass broke, two of her grey paws covered her ears as she cowered upon hearing the sudden loud shattering noise.
At this point, the chinchilla Pokemon was shaking. What on Earth would happen next? Was this really worth it? Before she was even convinced, Miju kept moving forward, incredibly, toward the area where the glass was shattered. That was where the food was after all.
Upon climbing into the window, Miju could see the girl attempting to break another machine. The little Minccino was too close and too hungry not to enter into the building, throwing caution to the wind, but it did hat its own share of consequences. Jumping over the shards and landing near the pile of other shards didn't exactly end with the result she thought it would.
The little Minccino yelped upon cutting her left hind paw, and her right front leg and paw. The little Minccino miraculously was able to roll out of arms way without hurting anything else, but maneuvering from here on out would be hard. The little Chinchilla desperately tried to lick her wounds, as she wobbled over to the girl trying to bash in the machine, but it only resulted in the little Chinchilla landing on her stomach and covering her head once again when the girl began bashing the machine stuffed with food once again.

Shiren blinked. She thought the color inside had changed. That was unusual. That the glass had not broken however, was not so surprising. These things were often a little stronger than normal winder glass for the very sake of deterring ones such as herself who hoped to break into the machine rather than get the food the proper way.
Shiren was fond of trying things again even if her efforts seemed to not be working well at first. She'd made a nick in the glass. That much she could see. She focused her efforts there, hitting the panel several more times. Cracks had a way of spreading under pressure so Shiren was sure that soon the food inside would be hers.
For now, shiren was too focused on breaking the glass to notice the little Minccino nearby. Humans such as herself had a way of noticing little else when they set their minds on something.

The human began to pound on the machine with the club, one hit after the other, and with each whack the crack grew, from a pinpoint to a baseball. Like veins the crack spread across the glass, which almost seemed to bounce back against the force, as though it were some form of plasticine glass.
The machine's humming increased in intensity, up the point that a faint headache could be felt among all living things present, though it did not last long, for very soon the face had shattered. Instead of into jagged shards as the window had, the machine's face fell into a thousand tiny pieces, scattering amongst both carpet and its own innards.
The humming returned to normal, though now the light's flickering seemed to quicken in pace, and, unlike the others, this change was immediately noticeable. For a few seconds the light flashed like a strobe light. The old building creaked. The window's shards shook and began to slide towards the nearest corner, as though the floor had tilted sideways.
The window, its frame spattered by the occasional red drops from those who had slipped through its jagged remnants, made a groan, and, an instant later, the opening had simply disappeared, replaced by wall; it was almost as though it had never been, though the shards of glass remained piled up in the corner beside the vending machine. Just beyond the hum of the machine, one could strain to hear the sound of a few clicks, as of locks being set.
After this, everything seemed to return to the normal, the machine's light returning to its normal speed, its vaguely expired contents free for the taking.

Finally Success!
Shiren pulled of her shirt, a large dirty yellow thing, and tied one end into a knot. Now she had a useful bag to carry all the snacks in.
She reached into the machine and began pulling out all the things she could reach. She couldn't reach the highest ones for the moment, but the rest of the snacks were easily able to be grasped.
She stuffed each thing into her shirt-bag, not caring if any of it ended up crushed or smashed in the process. it was food-stuff, and that was the only thing that mattered to Shiren for the moment.

By Jov! She'd done it! The moment Miju braved another glance, the little Minccino scrambled to get onto her four limbs, leaning more on the two that weren't injured. With all of the courage the little chinchilla could muster, Miju leaped forward as far as she could on the two legs that were good. Then, upon reaching the vending machine and the girl, the desperate Minccino's back arched as she growled aggressively, her tail swaying back and forth threateningly.
Then, the Minccino jumped again, and aimed a Pound attack that in a means to slap a girl across the face. Regardless of whether or not it actually made any contact, the injured Pokemon leaped into the vending machine and began stuffing as many goodies into her mouth as she could, using her cheeks to store them. Despite the chinchilla's injuries, the Miju was one fast Pokemon, and would easily out-speed the reaction of a normal human. Her cheeks may have been incapable of storing as much as the sack that this human made, but if it meant getting herself several good meals that would last her a long while, she was willing to test the boundaries of her cheeks.
Any attempts that the human would try to make to get any of the goodies now would be met by attempts to bite, scratch, or smack her with her tail. Miju was not about to give any of these foods up, but it was more than likely that neither was Shiren.

Shiren bared her teeth at the little animal, in a way that reflected the aggressiveness of wild things. Had that thing just hit her? That could not be allowed to fly.
but...
Food was more important. Shiren reached her hands back in to grab more of the goodies. The aggressiveness from the little animal would be ignored, bites and scratches might deter many humans, but Shiren wasn't one of those that would stop grabbing the food she had won just because of a little pain. She probably had tons of silvery-white scaring hidden on her dirt-smeared skin from all the times she'd gotten wounded in the past. The more time the little animal spent trying to bite her the more time Shiren had to grab things from the machine. If the Minccino stayed in one place just long enough... one of those things might be Miju.

The Minccino hissed as her attacks weren't working to thwart off the human. She simply had to change tactics: Stop focusing on the human and just focus on the food. Paws kept grabbing and stuffing food into her cheek pouches, but she felt overloaded long before the human was. Shiren kept stuffing food into her bag, whilst Miju seemed to waste time trying to figure out how to get more. Before she could even really come up with anything, Miju was suddenly tossed deep into the bag along with the food the human was collecting.
Bingo!
Now there was an opportunity! Since the human was too busy tossing food into the pouch, Miju would help herself to all of the goodies that were stuffed in there. Grabbing one of the wrapped up goods, the chinchilla Pokemon tried to eat one of the candy bars, but found herself unable to chew through the wrapper. Her brown eyes began to glare as the little Pokemon tried yanking and pulling on the wrapper with very little fruit to her labor.
Finally, she managed to rip one open, and hardly caring about any sort of side affects, quickly began munching down on the candy bar. As far as she was concerned, Shiren could keep chucking those goodies into that bag so long as the Minccino got to eat them. Unfortunately, from Miju's perspective, there was no telling how quickly Shiren noticed the Minccino pigging out.

Shiren noticed quickly that she had accidentally put the creature in the bag. When she had grabbed it, she had not intended to do that, but now it was easy for her to pull the creature out again. It wasn't like there was anywhere to run while inside the shirt-bag after all.
Once grabbed, the creature would find that Shiren's grip was tight, and Shiren's response to the animal was not kind. Shiren would viciously shake Miju, her intended tactic similar to how some beasts viciously shake their prey until the prey is dead. Having gotten a chance to deal with the annoying little animal, there wasn't much chance that Shiren would show mercy.

Upon being grabbed the second time, the Minccino squeaked and ended up spitting out her candy bar. This time, the Minccino kept both paws and teeth glued onto the hand that help her, teeth and claws easily piercing skin, if only a little. If it weren't for two things- the fact that she was a rodent and not a predator that could slice through flesh, and the fact that the human began lashing her around like a psycho animal -Miju would have easily damaged major tissue or even cut off circulation, if not a limb, instantly. Unfortunately, Miju wasn't strong enough for her tactics to work, so she would need to change them in order to survive this.
She had to focus less on making the human let go and more on squeezing her little flexible body out of the girl's grasp. Even though she was a Pokemon, she was still, in fact, a rodent, and very capable of squeezing through even the tightest of spaces.
That being said, man did this girl have a grip. One would think that total starvation would deprive a little child like this of such things, but it seems as though desperation did the exact opposite of what one would think to Shiren. Despite this, Miju was able to use the momentum of the thrashing to her advantage as she used her tail as a leverage. Finally, she broke free, but riding the momentum caused the poor little Minccino to be sent flying, and the poor creature slammed back first right into a nearby wall.
It took a little while for Miju to recover. She yelped once again, this time trying to lick her wounds whilst the girl did whatever she felt like. There was only one thing the little Minccino knew to do at this point aside from giving up completely... Once she finally got up on all fours, two of them still injured from earlier, Miju slowly made her way to the equally desperate girl. Miju then made her eyes as big as she could, whimpering as she tugged at the girl's attire with a pitiful expression.
Baby Doll Eyes: Miju's last hope of getting any kind of food...
