❖ ISHIKI NI NAGARE
Spinning and spinning.
One rotation marking each day
Circling a star at a perfect distance away.
Constant steady movement that predictably came back in full circle once more, contributing to the slow pulse of the universe.
Nothing seemed wrong in this place and time, but Ishiki knew that the balance had been upset in the cycles of movement, a very subtle change in the earth's rotation, but different enough from the norm he had observed for millennia to spark concern in his steady mind.
A small variation beyond the normal flow of things could have dire consequences, for not just Eokia but the planet as a whole.
Were sanctuary technologies acute enough to sense it? Were their artificial satellites able to pick up on a change, that was truly so small that had he not been monitoring these movements all this time, he might not have noticed the change at all? The ancient being could not help but wonder, for even though his attentions had always been to keep Eokia safe, his role spanned awareness of the rest of the world as well.
It was not an occurrence of random chance. The shift was probably the product of some action. It had a signature which Ishiki did not recognize as belonging to someone of which he knew.
A change such as this did not happen often, and this was not the first concerning cosmic change he had observed within recent times. Recently, some of the stars had been winking out of existence. Again it was not enough to raise notice, from any but those who knew the sky best.
Quietly the deity shifted, becoming ethereal and expanding out from this spot where he had quietly been observing the changes of the world while maintaining humanoid guise. He was in an small chamber but the walls did not stop the shift as his form became ghostly, but still more solid than such an undead entity. He eclipsed the walls, and expanded out from them, casting a shadow over the sky that darkened the stars with a different kind of light, one that over all complimented the night sky. Markings like runes etched in every pastel-neon color illuminated the ethereal body for anyone below to see.
For those who were familiar with Eokia's ways, they would know that a god had appeared.
Some people stared in awe. others bowed. Since he interacted with them on their level in daily life, Ishiki knew many of them by name. Most would not connect him as he was now to the ageless man who taught advanced magics at the school, and kept Akuzeth's defenses well running. He gave them all no heed.
As he grew bigger, his form continued to fade from view until only ribbons of dim color across the night sky indicated his presence.
In this state, eclipsing the spinning globe, he examined the world and surrounding space. His observations above aligned with the shifts he had observed below. No doubt the others also sensed it within their own respective fields of influence.
If not, Ishiki must wake them. The shifting balance of powers, the vanishing stars, the hair-thin shift of rotations, none of it boded well.
