APPEARANCE:
Auru doesn't exactly stand out in terms of coloring; Some would argue her pattern is unextraordinary. And with a lithe but filled in build and average height, she seems to be just a normal wolf. A closer look reveals otherwise.
A base coat of dark, ashy gray fur makes her appearance dull and gloomy. Thankfully, the top coat and markings of chocolate brown add variation to to this otherwise boring appearance. Her face is striped like that of a tigers from the forehead to the end of the muzzle, ears are tipped the same brown, and two crescent shaped moon markings encircle her upper front legs. Her over-sized tail is completely brown and long enough to hangs just above the ground when she stands. It's length and weight prevents her from wagging it fully but helps to act as a rudder in flight.
The most odd features of Auru, however, are her eyes and wings. Her eyes are ghostly pale blue with a permanently constricted pupil in the center. Her wings are of a hawk - mostly chocolate brown but the ends of her feathers are striped white and black and reach over 13ft in wingspan. Pink scars litter her pelt from past fights as well: two over and beside her eyes, three down her neck and left hind leg, and one large scar on her left front leg. 5 more are spread inside and over her brown wings. A looped iron chain hangs around her check loosely and is easy to pull off, the clamp on her left leg however isn't easily removed by natural means.
PERSONALITY:
Auru is extremely loyal to what friends she does come to have, doing whatever it takes to ensure both of their survival and doing her utmost to live by each's standards. She will never betray those she loves and will have their backs till the very end.
When Auru's mind is made up, she expresses her opinion and defends it with such ferocity that many times seems uncharacteristic of her. In battle, all of her innocence and kindness is taken up in the heat of the fight as she defends anything from her ideals to her companions. Though shy at times, Auru will not hesitate to throw herself into a battle, even if its not her own, prepared to act as a mediator or to lay down her life for any innocent being that is in danger.
When not fighting for all that is good and right in her eyes, she is a talkative and well-mannered girl who loves to engage others in conversation and make them feel at ease, even if doing so causes her to go out of her way to do so. She may be ready to fight(and win), but she will do anything she can to diffuse a situation before it gets to that point.
Auru is very playful and loves to pounce, stalk, and 'fight' with her companions, often against their will. Its apparent that she never really has outgrown her pup-like ways. Many times, though, her playing can get devious and cause her trouble or get in sore-straits with others. Kind and considerate, she tries her best not appear anything she isn't and treat others fairly and with love. Often, she has a maternal side that comes out and she can't help but care for others. Unfortunately, her soft heart and naive nature leaves her vulnerable to charming words as she often finds herself catering to others or being taken advantage of.
She does a fairly well job of keeping her lack of self-confidence under wraps but times come when she is very self-conscious and feels the entire world is against her. Because of this, she doesn't handle criticism well and even a good-natured jeering can send her heart sinking to her paws.
HISTORY:
Auru was born a loner by a lake. But due to her unnatural appendages because of breeding with a mythical being, she was abandoned by her natural mother, left to die in the filth of an abandoned fox den. It was only by the kindness of an elder wolf, Ore, that she was saved and able to live another day. Despite what the her birther had purposed, this one reared Auru up until the day of disaster.
As she grew, Ore taught her the ways of a wolf - from socializing to hunting. What she could not teach her, however, was how to tap into her unnatural bird side, only able to tell the growing pup to look to the birds for guidance in how to use her wings. However, try and she did, Auru never could master the way the birds used their own set and so resigned only to short glides and using her wings to communicate as one would their hands. From then on, Ore only sought to make her feel more comfortable in her own skin. She would even tell her stories of a land where there were other beings like Auru with fantastic abilities and strange appearances. Auru dreamed of that place and imagined it as an escape from reality.
However, one day, their lessons came to a screeching halt. Auru and Ore were sitting on a broken tree overlooking the glistening lake, the elder carrying on conversation about just how bad things had gotten in the world. Then they came in. With chains she hadn't seen before, grotesque and disfigured hounds stormed in and took the elder. Auru tried her best to free her but then they came for her. She was not willing to leave her companion behind, but Ore kept shouting at her, snapping at her whenever she came near, "GO".
Reluctantly, after several more attempts to free her adoptive mother, she ran, slipping by the beasts and out into a world she had barely explored. Pushing through debris and thick tangles of bushes and branches, Auru eventually made it far enough that she felt she was safe. Her relief was short lived as she was soon tracked by a couple of the mutated canines. Unable to get by them and shaking from the exertion from her previous escape, Auru had no choice but to fight. Her inexperience was her downfall in this regard as soon one hound got a hold of her leg and bit down with bone-crushing force. With a last strain of effort, she yanked herself free, ripping open her leg with one of the dog's teeth just to get free. But there was no freedom. They took Auru, threw chains around her neck and clipped over her leg, dragging her back to their lair.
Once there, she was tortured and forced to fight against other creatures she had not known existed, having to do so with her neck and leg restraints. Wounds unable to heal correctly turned into bright pink scars that marred her pelt. She never knew what happened to Ore, only able to think she was killed off yet hoping she somehow was still alive. She thought this torture would never end, that her death would come when one of the beasts she battled would grasp her throat. Until one day, while the group of hell-hounds were fast asleep, a strange female creature with spines and unnatural feathers growing from various parts of her body appeared and managed to break through the chains, telling Auru to follow her, so she did.
The mutant took her back to a familiar lake and left quickly without saying any goodbye. From then on, Auru was on her own, not knowing how to use her wings for much more than gliding but self-sufficient enough to feed herself. Left with the scars and chains of her past, she tried to carry on to a brighter future, starting with finding what her first friend and mother had told her stories about: the land of the mythicals.
