It was a good day for flying. the weather was clear and the the wind not too crazy. Lao stepped out on the edge of his cliff, and with his small bear like paws checked the news scroll that always came to his mail alcove. hmm, it seemed there were storms over the northern sea, and he needed to watch out for rogue patrols. That was old news, but the activities of the Illiboration were getting increasingly more noticeable. He'd have to play it safe when he flew through those skies.
The small unusual Gryphon went back inside his home and packed his leather bag with the parcels to deliver today. From there all he needed to do was spread his wings, and let the wind take him to the sky. The first few deliveries were local. After that Lao used his fluffy tail as a rudder to guide his flight westward. since the tanuki-hawk based gryphon lived on an island near the east coast, the ocean winds guided him further in land.
With small adjustments to keep himself on course, the gryphon scanned the ground. he was looking for...yes, he saw it, a small thatched cottage in what would seem like the middle of nowhere, for other than trees he couldn't see other buildings. He rode the downdraft carefully, and then. something hit him on the back.
Lao went from going down in a controlled fashion to falling like a rock with the weight on his back which was heavier and larger than he was pushing him down. He twisted in the air, trying to outmaneuver his attacker, and slow the fall. Lao succeeded only in part. He hit the ground hard and was very fortunate to have not hit it harder. as it was he ended up seeing a bright flash of weird colors when his head hit the ground. (seeing stars)
There was a gap in Lao's memory. He was sore all over. one of his wings felt weird. his vision was blurry as he tried to stand. is pouch of deliveries was shredded and the parcels unwrapped. someone had been looking for something in the precious cargo he had been charged with flying to their intended recipients. His wing was worse however. when he tried to test it, he couldn't for the pain. The other worked alright, and he could move it without extreme discomfort, but his right wing, It was like a dead weight. Broken. His was terribly bad, both for Lao and his job.
