It was a beautiful morning over Maststead, the south eastern fishing village on the coast of the Eokian mainland. The land was flat, and the town so small that from the land-bound side one could still see the ocean between the carefully constructed buildings. Maststead was a predominately human settlement. One could tell based on the landscape. It was largely cleared of timber, and many of the larger plants were organized into small rows belonging to the people who tried to farm on the side, but these were small. The most impressive structures were the boats. They were not craft for large sea journeys, but moored in the bay was quite a variety of large and small boats. Even more were out in the ocean at this hour, manned by the inhabitants who worked hard to earn their keep from the sea.
The fishy salty air smelled wonderful to Izune, but even better was the smell of potential that came from this place. While in the landlocked regions a rumor had come to the Nekomata's ears, That the village, though quiet and quaint on the outside had ended up fishing up something valuable which had swung their prosperity towards thriving, and had turned trade more successful than it had been in years. She'd also heard that the wealth was really starting to show. The tomboyish almost scantily clad currently humanoid female was very curious about the truth of the story, and what might have given Maststead such luck.
AS Maststead had no walls but for one which was beginning to be erected this month, Izune easily walked past the border into town. At first glance most looked how a fishing village ought. The capable were out on the boats most likely, collecting their harvest from the sea. Young children ran about yelled at by their mother, or grandmother. some people were outside helping with the boats, and so on. Except for a glimmer of precious stone on a neck here, a lacquered box, passed from one hand, to another there, and the concessional flash of fabric well woven, and dyed with rare colors, things seemed normal but Izune noticed these and other little things.

It had been quite some time now since Cedric had seen his home, but if he were being honest he couldn't say that he really missed all that much, most of the time. Today however was one of those days where he was feeling quite sentimental about his past. He missed his home where he could see for ocean from his window and could smell the salty air all around him every morning, afternoon and night. When he awoke that morning and continued on his directionless morning he realized that he was heading towards a town on the coast, he started to wonder if he had been purposefully heading that way without realizing it. Whatever the reason was he didn't slow down his riding and continued towards the little coastal town. Once reaching the outskirts of the town he dismounted from his horse and started leading it by the reins. There was no real border keeping him out so he simply walked into the town watching the people as he passed by.
The first thing he was interested in finding was a suitable location to leave his horse, a barn at best and a post with a water trough at worst. He didn't see any nearby and was suddenly coming to the conclusion that perhaps this town had very little use of horses. He decided it might be best to ask for help at this point and walked over to the nearest person he could find. "Hello, would you happen to know if there is a suitable place to leave my horse around here?" He asked the stranger almost awkwardly. It was obvious that he tried to avoid conversations whenever possible.

. The man who approached and spoke to her, was not from this town as far as Izune could see. The petite female quickly looked the man and horse up and down, taking in a lot of detail before replying. "Right here's fine if you want to let him wander." The comment was spoken with a wide grin as though she had been simply telling a joke. Izune's tone however was more serious. "I've not seen any sort of horse place here..." She glanced around, testing the scents in the air around. The largest ones were salt and fish. She smelled a few dogs and cats...and..." Izune pinpointed the answer to the question. She waved her finger in the air at Cedric. "Ah somebody's got a goat." She declared triumphantly. there was some use of livestock here. Unfortunately a goat was not equal to a horse in many ways.
Izune also could not help the man more. Her interest wasn't horses. Her interest was the source of the town's good luck. She wanted specific kinds of information, but she'd yet to fish it out from the lips of actual locals. Still, Izune would act like she knew what she was talking about. "Try on the west side, behind some of those houses. Maybe there's a place to set up stable there."
Luckily for Cedric a lad, too young to be helping on the boats had been playing by a house close by enough to listen. He took his toy, some kind of yo-yo in hand, and ran near.
"If you're looking for stables, we don't have any. The land merchants always set up their own pen for their animals in the field outside you just passed." The small boy pointed the way both had come, out of the town. "There was talk of making something, maybe getting a mule and a cow and a horse!" He said enthusiastically, "but thats not happened yet." Curious about the horse, the boy tried to pet the equine's leg. Usually he didn't get to come this close to horses.

The small woman that Cedric had approached looked at him and his horse as if investigating them. The man started to realize that his woman probably wasn't from around here and he was barking up the wrong tree asking for her help. It was too late now to suddenly stop asking her help before she'd even answered. He watched her mouth move as she spoke with a wide smile on her face, the only thing he had made out was something about "here", he could only assume that she had said something about letting it go there. She began looking around as if looking for something and he started to wonder if she had said something else and was done answering now. Just as he considered walking away she looked back over at him and her mouth moved again and he made out the words "somebody" and "goat" which lead him to assume that she said something along the lines of somebody has a goat. He was unsure why that was relevant to the current situation though. Her mouth continued to move and Cedric silently cursed himself for somehow finding a 'talker' to ask for help.
A second person arrived in the conversation by that point, a small child. His mouth moved a lot for quite sometime and Cedric had a hard time keeping up with everything he was saying. He started pointing back the way he had come which made him turn around and look back that way. When he looked back the boy's mouth was still moving, perfect two 'talkers'. The only thing he had gathered from the boy talking was something about setting up an area outside the town. Cedric gently tugged his horse's head down so the boy could pet it. "Well I guess thanks for the help then."Cedric responded, his voice sounding off like he was unsure of what words were leaving his mouth.

when the boy started speaking Izune watched Cedric more. The man with the horse had yet to say another word since asking his question. Izune found this a little bit strange. By watching Cedric's expressions while the boy spoke things began to become increasingly clear. Regardless of whether what everyone said was fluff or not, the man was not understanding a lot of it.
"This is really cool Mister." the boy exclaimed, referring to the horse. The tall creature seemed gentle and gave the kid no reason to fear despite the fact that compared to himself the equine was huge.
When the small boy shut up, Izune asked. "Oi? This not your native Language or something?" That was her guess for why Cedric seemed so hesitant and awkward with his words right now. If she pinned down the right answer, it could explain a lot.

Cedric watched the boy pet his large mare with little hesitation, he doubted the boy saw many horses but he still showed no fear. It brought a small smile to his face seeing his black mare close her eyes as if he glad to have the boy petting her. He looked up to make sure the girl was still there just in time to see that he mouth was moving again, she asked something about him not knowing the language it seemed. He smiled in spite of himself amused that it was still that obvious to people that he had a hard time understanding them. "I can't hear you." He explained motioning to his ears and then to them, as if she was the one who couldn't hear and he had to tell her with motions what he had said, but the motion was out of habit. He remembered when he used to try and pretend he just didn't speak the language but then he had too many offers to teach him so he decided telling the truth was the simplest answer.

Okay, she guessed. "need me to shout?" Izune asked loudly, but not loud enough to be a real shout. She was watching the male to see if he could hear at all if she spoke more loudly. It didn't take much to see the answer.
A woman's voice shouted,"Bobby! Bobby come back here!" The speaker was a bit far off, but the tone was firm and carried a motherly amount of worry. The boy had to go now. He was reluctant to leave the horse, but gave the mare another pat, before running off. He'd be in trouble if he didn't come when called.
Izune looked around, not liking standing around doing nothing. She thought trying to converse with someone deaf would be a real bore. Not only did it make for poor conversation, it was slow and not very entertaining. Izune had one more question she thought to ask, but was thinking it wouldn't be worth while to bother.
