❖ CITY OF AKUZETH
"If you're looking for a central hub, try Akuzeth. Its the biggest city in this stretch of east Eokian soil, definitely the best place to get more info."
That had been the recommendation, but had it really been worth it? Akuzeth was a large city, neutral ground almost compared to some of the Eokian nations, for it was more diverse than many of the smaller towns. Hopefully those who came here could find what they sought, whatever it happened to be. There were definitely many options, from pleasure, to work, to education, to allies, and always magic.
Unfortunately it was a tense time. Not long ago the sky had been blackened by wry clouds, and dark winds while forces from another plane had poured from the sky. Not only had they attacked the Eokian locus for trade, and knowledge, but they had awakened the darkness in many of the beings in the land as well. The damage, was definitely not yet fully rid of.
Since the demons had retreated over the city, returning by the hole from which they had come, Akuzeth had been a flurry of activity. Though the city itself had been well protected during the raid from Necropolis, thanks to magical barriers put up near the start, designed to keep out any and all unfavorable beings should they try to damage the place, The surrounding land had been ravaged. Some areas had been severely scorched, leaving blackened strips of ground which looked like they might never grow again. In other places the earth was deeply slashed as though there had been a heavy gigantic claw that cut through the land. Elsewhere a huge strip seemed to have been completely frostburned, and also looked like an earthquake had struck. Surrounding houses and farms which were not part of the city proper had taken the hit hard, but the city itself stood imposing and strong, its gigantic spires near the center reaching up into the sky.
There had been a brutal battle here, but over the last several days, locals had worked to clean up the dead, and bury the bodies. Leaving any around was simply asking for sickness to come. No one wanted a plague. Magic had hastened the cleanup in many places thankfully, but the scent of death and decay was still rather strong. Both those weak and strong along the roads to and from the city often had an appearance of tiredness to them, and the cause was both mental and physical. Despite the city's best efforts many had lost something, kin who had gone to battle, properties outside the city's protective field, shipments of goods, even just sleep as the efforts to remedy what was harmed stretched on.
News would have reached a traveler's ears of it all, before the city ever appeared on the horizon, but the sights along the road to the entrance were surely still a shock. unless, of course a traveler lived around such war-ravaged states too often. One who did could just treat this like a pleasant stroll.
