THESE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD ARE SPINNING ROUND & ROUND 'CAUSE ALL OF THAT PRIDE YOU HOLD IS TROUBLING, YOU KNOW? The voices of students seemed to grate on his ears as he wrapped up his final class that Friday. A winter breeze passed through the air, causing him to shiver in his jeans and hoodie. A thin layer of snow crunched beneath his worn sneakers as he huffed, his eyes scanning over the area. He couldn't care less about the blonde passing by and laughing with her preppy friends, nor the scattered students heading towards their dorms or apartments or cars. No, he had a fixation on a certain someone who happened to go by the name Mars Sen.
They shared few classes together, but in the ones that they did, Ikehara Haise could not help himself from staring. As for the reason? It was not the scar on his face, not even the strange color of his hair and eyes, rather, the way he acted. Call it a hunch, but Haise thought that Mars was... different. Certainly not in a 'bad way', but different in the sense that he wanted to get to know him better.
He noticed one day while walking back to his dormitory that Mars had one last class after Haise did on Fridays. Therefore, he killed time waiting for Mars, then intentionally remained nearby the class in order to approach him. Perhaps he could make a friend for once. The idea alone of befriending him, though, was nerve wracking. He had given it his best efforts, but despite it being his first year, Haise had already landed himself into a physical fight with another classmate. Word of the quarrel spread like wildfire, undoubtedly causing people to see him differently. Who was to say Mars wouldn't do the same? The fight had long passed a month or so ago, but still...
Haise looked up when he heard the noise of students filing out of the classroom, waiting intently for the shorter male to exit along with them, but he was greeted by a surprising sight that caused him to set his jaw in frustration. Who was that girl standing beside him?
OOC im dying squirtle it's almost 2am and i have no idea why this post is so bad im sorry LOL nevertheless i hope it's an ok starter??

I HAVE NO LOVE BUT ONLY GOALS, & OH HOW VERY EMPTY IS MY SOUL IT IS A SOUL THAT FEELS NO THRILL, A SOUL THAT COULD EASILY KILL mars gave small nods as echo talked, occasionally adding a small piece of commentary. he let her do most of the speaking - even before his voice's pitch had raised to the point of being feminine, he had never been one for words. she was a louder kind of girl, anyways, so it didn't seem like she minded. they were two of the last few people to file through the door, mars purposely hanging back a bit. he wanted to avoid going home for as long as possible; as much as he loved his mother, tending to her day after day was wearing him down. echo seemed content to continue chatting, so he had an excuse for not leaving immediately.
he glanced around absently once they were outside, taking in the thin layer of snow and the shivering college students. the area hadn't changed much since the hour and a half that had passed between now and entering the classroom. he retrieved his gloves from his bag, pulling them on. they were ragged and didn't do much to shield his hands from the cold, but they were better than nothing, if only marginally so. he flipped his hood up as well, wishing that he had something better.
his blue gaze landed briefly on haise, but barely lingered before returning to echo. he knew only a bit about haise - just that they shared a few classes, and that haise had gotten into a fight on school grounds a while ago. he hadn't thought much of the fight, though; it wasn't like it had anything to do with him. he preferred to keep his nose in his own business. haise, like most of the other students, was just background noise to him at the moment. perhaps his opinion would've been different if he knew of the amount of attention the demiboy gave him, but he had yet to notice.
OOC its fine omg !! ur post was Good,, sorry for the low quality of mine tho oops

MY LIFE GOES ON SO I'LL ROT AWAY HERE; A TIME MACHINE WOULD BE NICE YEARS FLY BY BUT I'M LIVING, 'FRAID OF DYING & HOPING OF 'MAYBE SOMEDAY' alk, talk, talk. That's all Echo loved to do in her waste time. She didn't mind to be the center of attraction. Today, their conversation landed upon what she was choosing to wear and the courses they were taking. She ranted long and hard about this one course who's speaker had the most dullest voice she had ever heard. On occasions, Echo flipped to another conversation revolving Mars.
As they approached the doors to the outdoors, the girl noticed someone waiting outside with a rather serious look to his features. Her voice would become hushed when she noticed who it was. Although as they passed an inch away, it grew louder. Echo had heard about him before. He had gotten into a physicsl fight once and never saw him around so she could never try to befriend him. It wasn't like she wanted to either. All her friends spoke about him rather bluntly and told her never to cross paths with him. It didn't matter at the time though, but now it kinda just hit her.
Following Mars' actions, the pale girl came to a short halt and put on her own gloves and coat. There would be no use in getting a cold, right? If she did, she could miss her classes. It didn't bother her in the least, but she didn't want to uselessly chatter with others just to get the information she missed. A sigh escaped her lips. Echo's eyes wandered to Mars. "Are you sure you don't need new gloves or a coat? I'm sure I can buy you one if you'd like. I don't mind in the least."

THESE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD ARE SPINNING ROUND & ROUND 'CAUSE ALL OF THAT PRIDE YOU HOLD IS TROUBLING, YOU KNOW? Quite frankly, Haise currently had no patience. He didn't wait for that class to end just to watch him walk away with another student. He felt pathetic for growing jealous over someone who he knew so little about, but was it really so wrong to want to get to know someone...? Haise fiddled with the ends of his sleeves in uncertainty, gazing up at the duo who seemed to had noticed him. Were they looking at him? He supposed he couldn't just simply walk away now.
He huffed, traversing towards the students with a less-than-cordial expression, try as he might to sport a friendly smile. He approached while the girl was in the middle of her sentence, suddenly feeling discomfort rise up in his chest. "...need new gloves or a coat? I'm sure I can buy you one if you'd like. I don't mind in the least." Were they... dating perhaps? Maybe it was rude of him to have thought he could intrude on their conversation. Perhaps she should have walked away after all. Pursing his lips, he wondered how he wasn't freezing to death at the mention of new gloves or a coat, since he had neither of those. Those sounded appealing now... Haise began to get distracted, so he urged himself to speak.
"Uh, hey. You're Mars, right?" the student would speak, his voice coming out a bit rougher than intended. He wondered if Mars would even know who he was--they had never spoken before, after all. He then eyed the female next to him, fairly surprised that he was hanging out with someone like her. Not that she was giving off a poor first impression or anything, but mostly because she looked more outgoing while Mars was more reserved.

MY LIFE GOES ON SO I'LL ROT AWAY HERE; A TIME MACHINE WOULD BE NICE YEARS FLY BY BUT I'M LIVING, 'FRAID OF DYING & HOPING OF 'MAYBE SOMEDAY' Hmm, so was he loitering outside the room for Mars? How odd. She didn't know that Mars was friend with a delinquent like him. It was rather tragic really, but Echo didn't think that the blue haired boy minded. "Mmhmm, that's his name! His name is Mars." Echo didn't care if Haise's question was posed to her. She suspected Mars would appreciate if she spoke for him. He was rather laidback after all. Slipping her gloves on, the girl would tilt her head slightly before speaking up again. "If I may ask, who are you and what do you want with my friend?"
A small smile was on her lips. It was nearly a grin. Echo considered Mars a 'friend'. A term loosely fit in society's list of words thrown around in a make belief way. That's what she thought at least. Nevertheless, the doe eyed female spoke to him more than the rest of her peers. He was in some of her classes and she preferred him more than the common crowd. Everyone else bored her. They all seemed to be sheep who's coat was ready to be sheared apart by the cold world.
Despite considering Mars a friend, she never thought of him more than that as her feelings for him were rather platonic. Sometimes she questioned if her feelings were more than that though. Those questioning times were common in her spare time. She had nothing more to do than studying fo her courses and art. Sure the girl could be loud at most times, but she wasn't an extrovert who liked to party in their spare time.

I HAVE NO LOVE BUT ONLY GOALS, & OH HOW VERY EMPTY IS MY SOUL IT IS A SOUL THAT FEELS NO THRILL, A SOUL THAT COULD EASILY KILL "oh. ah..." mars began in response to echo's question, reaching his hand up to his face to rub at his scar as he thought. while new, functional clothing would certainly be nice, wasn't it a bit inappropriate for someone as low as him to be receiving gifts from her? luckily, he was saved the trouble of a response as haise approached.
he had to admit, he was a bit surprised when the taller boy addressed him directly. haise simply didn't seem like the type of person who would need anything from him. maybe he just wanted to borrow notes or something?
echo appeared to jump the gun a bit, answering for him. shock jumped through him at her words. "if i may ask, who are you and what do you want with my friend?" it felt... odd, to say the least, that someone considered him a friend. he was always the one doing things alone. the one who didn't need others.
his response somewhat mirrored echo's. "yeah. that's me. you're haise, right?"
although his voice was calm, more and more paranoid thoughts swirled in his mind the more he thought over echo's actions. what if she had some idea of using him? getting close to him, offering to buy him things... what if she just wanted to hurt him? or trap him in a situation he couldn't escape?
he did his best to push the idea from his mind, tugging on his glove in an attempt to ground himself with the sensation. now wasn't the time or place to dwell on ideas like that; he'd just end up in a panic attack, and that wouldn't be any fun for any of them. he absolutely loathed acting like that in front of anyone - he preferred riding things like that out alone, where he didn't have to worry about what the people around him were thinking.

THESE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD ARE SPINNING ROUND & ROUND 'CAUSE ALL OF THAT PRIDE YOU HOLD IS TROUBLING, YOU KNOW? He wasn't sure if his face showed it or not, but Haise felt slightly agitated when the girl abruptly responded for him. "Mmhmm, that's his name! His name is Mars," he heard her say. Well damn, thanks genius. I knew that already, he thought bitterly, but decided against a sharp reply as she raised a question. She came off as rather eccentric to him. The way she spoke... how straightforward of her. 'Who are you and what do you want with my friend'? Was this some kind of police interrogation?
He eyed her briefly before turning back to Mars after he answered. Haise wasn't sure whether to be surprised or not that Mars already knew his name, but he supposed that made the conversation easier. No need for either of them to introduce themselves, except for that girl, but he wasn't even sure if he wanted to know who she was. She was irrelevant for now, but... he supposed he'd just have to see how things turned out.
"Yeah. I actually just wanted to see if you wanted to talk, or something?" Haise asked, gaze drifting off to the side. ...I sound like some sort of love struck schoolgirl, he thought irritably. He began to add, "I've noticed we shared a lot of classes, so... I thought it'd be cool to get to know some of my classmates better." He hoped that was a good enough excuse. It wasn't completely an excuse, anyway; it was true, they could be study-buddies at the least if all went well. Though, now he had to hope that girl didn't intrude on their plans, assuming he accepted--if she did nose her way in, well... he'd be angry, to put it mildly.

I HAVE NO LOVE BUT ONLY GOALS, & OH HOW VERY EMPTY IS MY SOUL IT IS A SOUL THAT FEELS NO THRILL, A SOUL THAT COULD EASILY KILL mars' brow furrowed slightly. interest? in him? it had been shocking enough when echo had called him her friend. the poor boy was possibly on the edge of a heart attack at this point. he relaxed slightly as haise continued, finding an explanation that was easier to accept in his words. haise was just being polite - getting around and talking to his classmates. it wasn't a personal thing.
"yeah. of course. i'm not very good at small talk, but..." he lifted his shoulders in a small shrug. hopefully he didn't sound too rude; it wasn't like he meant to be. he just didn't want haise to be disappointed when he found out how boring mars was. after all, he was nothing special, was he? simply a pushover boy who spent what he had of his free time taking care of his ill mother and wishing his father would acknowledge his presence in the house. in his own opinion, he didn't have an ounce of personality.
he glanced over at echo, wondering what her reaction would be. would she take it as a sign to leave, or would she stick around? he didn't really mind either way, but he had to wonder if haise would. he got the feeling that the other student was ticked off at her. then again, maybe he was just hypersensitive to these sorts of things; it could be that he was only creating tension in his mind.
idly, he wondered what could come of this. it was the strategist in him - would this lead to some life-changing event, or be an encounter that lasted but a day and had no effect on his life whatsoever? it was hard to imagine these two meaning anything to him, but who knew? it was a little like chess; was he sending his pawn to an area where he could take out an enemy piece, or setting it up to be destroyed by an attack he hadn't seen coming? or would the end result be that the movement of his piece hadn't mattered at all?

MY LIFE GOES ON SO I'LL ROT AWAY HERE; A TIME MACHINE WOULD BE NICE YEARS FLY BY BUT I'M LIVING, 'FRAID OF DYING & HOPING OF 'MAYBE SOMEDAY' Guohh, so did this mean this 'Haise' was interested in her too? Nah, he couldn't be! He just couldn't be. The guy was giving her the hereby jeebies and a sign that said,"I hate you! Go away now!" Maybe it was just her imagination, but it was her way of seeing things. Still, why was it Mars out of everyone else? Mars wasn't particularly interesting to her, but she still kept him around for good company. Although, the fact Haise was wanted to be with Mars solely irked her.
Nodding her head as she listened to Haise's explanation, the girl would come to a conclusion. Should she leave or should she go? Her mind said to leave since it would be rude to say since Haise did't include her. But then again, her heart said to stay and pursue the thrill on what could happen. "Oh, oh, does that mean me too?" piped Echo with her upbeat tone as she pointed to herself.
"I mean, I understand you only wanted my friend; but as they say, the more the merrier." continued Echo. "That's fine, if not though. I totally understand." She had to admit to herself that she was being a little bit nosy. By that, she meant a whole lot of being nosy and piper. Her voice was kind of the irritating kind when excited. Although, she had to make sure Mars was safe with him and Haise didn't have anything ill to do with him. He could have been lying after all. At most, she decided to trust this person loosely as there were so many possibilities on why and how.

THESE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD ARE SPINNING ROUND & ROUND 'CAUSE ALL OF THAT PRIDE YOU HOLD IS TROUBLING, YOU KNOW? Relieved that the exchange didn't become awkward, he listened as Mars replied and answered a bit too quickly, spluttering, "That's fine, really," and immediately internally groaning at his clumsy tongue. If Mars was bad at small talk, Haise must be horrible--that was what it felt like, anyway. Typically, Haise wouldn't be so easily flustered in front of an acquaintance, but if it was someone he wanted to know better, impressions were everything. Maybe he was thinking too mcuh about his impression, though...
He noticed that Mars turned to look at Echo, as though waiting for her reply, but fortunately he didn't offer to invite her or add her along. Though, she ended up doing that herself when her vivacious voice cut through the air. What was she, a child? Her mannerisms made him think so. He felt meager relief as she stated that it was okay to exclude her, but... wouldn't it be rude to leave her out of this, especially after making plans right in front of her? God, he was a jerk, but he didn't want to emphasize that.
Therefore, he heaved a short, quiet sigh before turning to her and saying, "Yeah. Sure. You can come. What's your name?" He wasn't sure they shared any classes, but if they did, he hadn't noticed; surely they'd passed by each other on campus before, but he had never caught her name. Then again, he could see why...

MY LIFE GOES ON SO I'LL ROT AWAY HERE; A TIME MACHINE WOULD BE NICE YEARS FLY BY BUT I'M LIVING, 'FRAID OF DYING & HOPING OF 'MAYBE SOMEDAY' "My name is Echo Mariki! Pleasure to meet you." spoke Echo gingerly. She was surprised to hear him say 'yes' and accept her. He thought he'd shrug her off. It was rather nice of him, but he could possibly putting up an act for Mars or for the rest of the world to see. Either way, the girl didn't mind. She liked meeting and befriending new people for the good or the bad. Whatever reasoning 'Haise' was bringing to her, Echo could see no fault in.
In her experiences with people, it was difficult for her to befriend people who were distrustful as herself. It was a war to see who could exploit the other for whatever they did wrong in the present and past. For this, people could see her as manipulative or scared to be hurt by others. If a person ever figured this out, she would have to admit she was. It brought her no shame. Echo brought it to herself anyways with her all too friendly smiles and outlook on life. Those smiles weren't fake though. She was only trying to make other people smile.
It seemed to be getting late though, so perhaps the girl should leave and allow the two do whatever they wanted to do. Haise seemed gentle enough. They could perhaps walk together to their dorms as well. "Since it's getting late for me, I'll take my leave." spoke Echo as she began to walk away, before turning to face them to speak once again. "See you, Mars and Haise!"

I HAVE NO LOVE BUT ONLY GOALS, & OH HOW VERY EMPTY IS MY SOUL IT IS A SOUL THAT FEELS NO THRILL, A SOUL THAT COULD EASILY KILL somewhat unsurprisingly, echo asked to come along. mars observed indifferently, glancing at haise in anticipation of his response. there was a barely audible sigh, but the other boy agreed in the end. echo appeared to not have noticed the sigh; or maybe she just didn't care. after she was accepted, she excused herself.
"see you." mars said simply, before turning back to face haise. he fidgeted with his glove, wondering if he should say something to the other. he couldn't think of what to say, though, so he settled on, "i should probably leave, too, or else my mom will be pissed." it sounded a bit childish, but he preferred to leave it at that for now; there was no need to mention her illness. he'd probably end up being pitied in the end - not that he was sure that haise would feel that way, but it was the general response to his situation. he didn't get why people made such a big deal of it, but he didn't like the idea of anyone feeling sorry for him.
he started to leave, but paused after a moment. "do you want my number?" he asked, digging his phone out of the pocket of his sweatpants. the offer felt strange on his tongue - the only person he'd ever given his number to within the last few years was echo. he generally wasn't one to make many friends, so there was never any need for it. not that he and haise were 'friends' yet, really, but perhaps it would make things easier. either way, there wasn't any foreseeable harm in it.

THESE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD ARE SPINNING ROUND & ROUND 'CAUSE ALL OF THAT PRIDE YOU HOLD IS TROUBLING, YOU KNOW? To his relief, Echo took her leave. 'Getting late for me'? He could only imagine this hour being 'late' for him--ever since he got to college, his sleep schedule was messier than ever. To think his junior high self thought it was cool to sleep at one in the morning... now he found himself up at five in the morning, and it wasn't because he wanted to be.
"Right. See you, Echo," he said, the unnatural name rolling off of his tongue. Both of them had such... peculiar names. Maybe unorthodox was a better word. Mars and Echo... they both just sounded so strange to him. Albeit, they both seemed so fitting. Who knew, maybe they thought 'Haise' was a weird name.
With her leaving, he and Mars remained, standing awkwardly in the silence until Mars broke it. He heeded his words, his attention lingering on the part, "...or else my mom will be pissed." Another early curfew student? Of course, he hadn't a clue of what really went on in Mars' household, similar to how Mars' hadn't a clue about Haise's, but he immediately jumped to the conclusion that his parents just wanted him home early for whatever reason. Though, he mentally shrugged it off, nodding and saying, "Mm. See you, then." He too turned to leave, but was stopped by Mars' voice.
...His number would probably be useful, he realized, since he hadn't even told him where they were going to meet, nor when. "Oh--yeah, that'd be good. I'll text you the details." He chose to leave Echo out of that sentence, so it was up to Mars to remember to transfer over the information; if he neglected to, well, it wouldn't be too great of a tragedy for Haise. When Mars gave him his number, he punched it into his keypad, creating a new contact but choosing to text him later. With that, they parted ways.

MY LIFE GOES ON SO I'LL ROT AWAY HERE; A TIME MACHINE WOULD BE NICE YEARS FLY BY BUT I'M LIVING, 'FRAID OF DYING & HOPING OF 'MAYBE SOMEDAY' Ehh, where were they? Was she too late and they left her, or was she too early? It was the latter most likely. A decently priced cafe seemed to be her pick of where they were going to study and what not. The cafe was located on the streets. It laid between a cosmetic store and general store. On the inside, the place was quiet with jazz playing in the background. Little people seemed to know of the place so the population was just the workers and a few people. She came here frequently when she wasn't busy, which was rare. Although, Echo enjoyed the calming ambience of the place whenever she came.
The black haired girl strung her hair in pigtails with two red hair ties as she waited in a seating area suited for four. Extra room could be used if Haise or Mars brought anything like a bag. Echo only brought her cell phone and wallet. She'd take a taxi home this time and not choose to drive a scooter of her's. Tapping her foot with some impatience, Echo would wait for them to come before she ordered anything. Despite not liking Haise a lot, she brought enough money for three drinks and a few snacks for them. The girl wasn't that mean. She could be though. Perhaps her perception of him would clear through time. At least that was what she hoped.

I HAVE NO LOVE BUT ONLY GOALS, & OH HOW VERY EMPTY IS MY SOUL IT IS A SOUL THAT FEELS NO THRILL, A SOUL THAT COULD EASILY KILL mars had barely managed to leave on time, slinging his bag over his shoulder as he left. his mother's reaction the night before hadn't been too bad - versus her usual yelling or passive-aggressive responses, she had been asleep - but he had been awake on and off the entire night due to needing to tend to her every few hours. he had set an alarm to counteract this, but had accidentally shut it off and laid back down in his daze.
although echo had mentioned bringing enough money to accommodate all three of them, he had stuffed a bit of his emergency cash into his bag just in case. hopefully he wouldn't have to spend it; he hated using money on anything except necessities, especially when it was frivolous things like this.
he briefly considered hailing a cab, but thought better of it. the cafe wasn't very far from his apartment, so it wouldn't kill him to walk. he was fairly fit, anyways; he found that working out relaxed him, so he had been doing it often over the past three years. he rubbed at his eyes as he walked, hoping the bags didn't show too much. he hadn't felt up to facing the mirror that way, so he had left all of them covered as he had gotten ready.
once he was in the area, it took him a couple minutes to find the place - it was tiny, crammed in between two other stores. he didn't see echo or haise waiting outside, but given the time, at least one of them was probably inside already. with this logic, he pushed the door open, soft jazz greeting him as he glanced around the waiting area. it didn't take him long to spot echo, so he headed over to her and sat down.
"hey. sorry i'm late. i slept through my alarm." mars moved as he spoke, setting his bag down on the empty seat immediately beside him. "is haise still not here?" with a cursory glance around the room, that much was obvious, but it was better to ask anyways, in case haise actually was here and had left to use the bathroom or something.
OOC this is kinda rushed sorry yike
