The setting was that of a dilapidated, ruined village. Those who passed through the routes often enough would recognize it as a sort of borderland, where no one really stopped unless they needed a place to rest. What was once a quiet area became a place of war when the forces of Necropolis invaded.
What remained was this hollowed out husk that spanned for about twenty miles. It was not a large place, by any means, but it was obviously home to many, as evidenced by the houses and its very recently furnished, if not utterly destroyed, decor.
Still, there was still energy that permeated the area - powerful energy residue that caused problems for neighboring villages and wildlands. For some reason or another, people found themselves drawn to it, but they oft did not return.

Kenessa Another day, another job.
Kenessa honestly had to wonder what made her take some of these really dumb risks. What would possess an individual to dive headfirst into the ruins of a demon war.
Money. Right.
"I think I might be easy," she muttered to herself, stepping up to the entrance to the village. The pathway leading to the town was just as rugged as she expected the rest of the place to be.
And then, there was this energy just fucking polluting the place. Hell, she was a human, and it still stuck out like a sore thumb to her.
Each step she took through the streets echoed, and the dust seemed to move with her.
She shivered, and that oh so familiar sense of dread crept up her back. Necropolic energy... the leftovers of the most nefarious the multiverse had to offer, and she was about walking right into it.
Thank the Goddess she wasn't suicidal, yeah?

Evil energy never bothered the cat. In fact she found it rather exhilarating to linger around, sharpening her alertness, readying her muscles for action regardless of the presence or lack thereof of something worthy to fight. The pleasant buzz of it drew her. Besides there were valuable things hidden in the residue, in the unclean scraps of death and debris, things that had absorbed the Necro-energy like sponges for the stuff. Her padded paws did short work of digging through some of the rubble. A thin smile spread across her feline face as she uncovered something worth while. It looked like a large metallic scale, large as a plate. tarnished indeed, but to the yokai it's wear and lack of polished gleam was a visible sign of value. Now if only the lord from Delmarsh Manor wasn't poking around as well. This was something she rather keep to herself, to savor and assimilate the energy to strengthen her, and get her that much closer to her goals. The fact that HE had been drawn to this same place as she, right when she was making great discoveries was mostly an annoyance. She glanced his way, checking to make sure that he was absorbed in his own investigation rather than paying her any mind. He probably knew she was there. The guy's senses were at least as sharp as her own. She could hear someone else 'stomping' around too.
The large feline listened, deciding to change locations. Unfortunately this meant she would be seen by at least one of the other's here. She quickly decided that the girl was less risky, more likely to leave Izune alone. The large spotted feline, easily as large as a husky, though lower to the ground, glided out of one desecrated building trotting across Kenessa's path, the defiled scale held firmly in her mouth while her fluffy striped tail flowed smoothly behind her. She hopped up onto a broken wall, slipping into another ruined building and out of sight with ease. She certainly intended to mind her own business. Hopefully all others would do the same.
A few seconds later, a frantic yowl came from the building the feline had entered. Something was in there, something bad even from her far more flexible standards. she ran back out, scale left behind, looking frazzled, her fur sticking up in multiple directions where before it had been smoothed down. Kenessa Sudden pitter-patter meant another living thing was there with Kenessa. That was enough to put her on guard, making her reach back to draw her revolver.
What she found, however, was just a cat. A rather large cat, but a cat nonetheless. That made her scoff, and she shook her head at her own jitters. "Calm yourself, girl."
When the cat disappeared into a home, she meant to pay it no mind. Just a wild animal scavenging on the remnants of civilization - nothing out of the ordinary.
Then came its yelp, and Kenessa turned her attention to the building. What she saw inside was something she hadn't expected.
A grotesque beast, snarling and angry - a demon if she had ever seen one. And its sights were set on the cat. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female Non Player Character Thrall The monster inside was a gaunt, skeletal being whose head was surrounded by an aura of energy unlike anything encountered on this plane. It was dressed in seemingly normal clothing for a citizen of Eokia, but its features reflected anything but that. And those features, claws and all, were trained on Izune with malignant intent. The thrall lunged at the cat, its mouth agape as it attempted to bite down on her. Loner。 XARXU (OOC)

It did not look as scary in the light as it had in the shadows of the house. Izune might not have yowled at all had she not been taken by surprise. Running out gave the massive feline some space temporarily, space for thought and space for reaction. The thing was trying to bite her? Seriously? It was generally dressed like, and loosely resembled a species that didn't bite for their food. This action surely brought it low to the ground. Izune was large, but as a cat she was not nearly as tall as many bipedal sentient beings. She pivoted quickly to avoid the bite, long needle like claws coming out quickly in order to retaliate with a blow which would certainly sting if the beast could feel pain. Her claws smoked with a dark, grey-purple miasma which would certainly corrode the creature's face at a speed easily visible to the naked eye like a rotting infection or like a growing burn if she made contact.

Necromantic? Fel? The energy this place was radiating was both familiar to him, and also unfamiliar to him. What was familiar was, his family back in the Plane he'd come from - House Tepes of Tyran - had all been practitioners of one Dark Art or another, the kinds that either poisoned or corrupted the living, or manipulated/exploited the dead; they were the descendents of Exodus, innately powerful beings whose sole purpose was to serve the Crown of Tyran by performing the bloody deeds (and leaving no tracks) that the other Houses could not (or would not) bloody their own hands with. Maximillion was the only one of hybrid heritage that he knew of, and had proven to be more of a wildcard than his brethren. He had an attunement to that which was Dark and Malevolent, but had a stronger inclination towards that which was Pure and Good (or, at least Neutral). He couldn't assassinate an entire town of innocent civilians, then erase the town from the Map, just because some Royal Family had decided to offer a Castle and servants to some Knight in exchange for some lesser evil, and the town was the only plausible site for construction of a new Castle. He wielded the sheer might, sure, but... he just had this thing called a 'conscience', and there was no telling where the next great Alchemist or Apothecary might come from who might invent the tincture that granted humans longer life (which Max, at least, was enthusiastic about), or that might grant Vampires or Werewolves who had lost their rationality the Cure some of them had been seeking prior to being overcome. This venture into this place, dense with a miasma of sinister energy, was his search for a means by which to investigate what seemed like legitimate claims of an evil-invested ghost town, in the hopes of learning more about the lore of this new orld he now inhabited, be it from Spirits, or Demons, or some other long-lived entity or apparition. What he had found instead, with the dense, toxic energy that oozed from every pore of this place, was conflicting emotions. One part of him filled with dread and discomfort, and the other part - probably his darker half - filled with elation and a feeling of immense euphoria at being in a place that emanated a dark 'vibe' it could resonate with. Exploring some of the terrain and the remaining, albeit broken structure, he stopped perfectly still as he heard a yowling sound, and felt a surge of dark energy nearby. The yowl would have unnerved most, and unnerve him it did, but whereas some might be spooked by the noise (and implication of some unearthly being being nearby), his unnerving was because WHATEVER made that sound, was clearly not human, yet something had spooked it to the point of illiciting a sound like...like THAT. Before he could even process it, his body moved, as if of its own accord, and he was running deftly and swiftly through the town, zooming at speeds that made everything on either side of him appear to blur by, while someone who might be watching him would see HIM becomes dark streak, zooming through the the streets and alleyways towards the source of the noise. He arrived just in time to spot some hellish looking entity trying to bite, or claw another entity... IZUNE?!! He was between it, and IZUNE, in the speed of a blink, and the next lunge or attack from he wretched entity would find a thick wall of dense, violet Psionic energy between itself and the ebony man (who was between the thing and IZUNE), then the man would scowl deeply, and teach his left hand up, and bite down on his pinky finger, or...was it a ring?! The tinkling of it shattering was partially drowned out by the dense aura of dark purple energt that enveloped the dark man's body as he stared down the entity that had tried to hurt IZUNE. "You okay?" He asked IZUNE, not looking back at her, but keeping his eyes on the entity before him. He might've been strong, but he never underestimated a foe (usually opted to OVERestimate their power), and he would not take his eyes off of it until it ceases being a threat, or was destroyed by him, or someone or something else. If only Izune had Not been going on the offensive at that moment, and at an extremely close range as well. It was not enough space for a grown man to fit between her and the attacker for sure. Rather than hit the thrall as intended, Chances were high now that Izune's corrosive claw strike would hit Max instead, probably on the leg or thigh. If so, it would leave a deep set of gashes, burning away the fabric of his clothing, and possibly his flesh as well if he could not heal faster than the high speed decay which was at the heart of her claw strikes' potency. "Idiot, Look before you leap." Izune scolded, not apologizing at all if Max indeed ended up hurt by her blow. True sometimes less than a second could be the difference between life and death, and for that sue supposed she should be thankful to not have to risk being bitten, but it was still annoying. Her claws would rake into his leg, slicing through the dark purple leather pants he wore, but perhaps she held back the split second she saw him, because her claws only grazed the skin of his leg, giving the impression of a yard rake scraping the surface of an iron anvil. The contact in and of itself was enough to let some of the effects of the slash touch him. Maximillion felt a little drag on his body as his body raced forward, with its rapid, accelerated healing, to combat the force that tried to invade his body, but while it caused a VERY uncomfortable heat to spread through his leg (from his immune system's response to the decay effects of the attack), he was still able to continue on as he was.
"That..." He hissed between his teeth, tying off the flows of Psionic energy and kicking off the ground, leaping backwards about ten yards, and lowering his left hand to the spot on his leg. Nothing was showing visible, but internally, forces were combatting to (a) decay his limbs, and (b) resist the invading Presence that tried to impose itself upon his system. Chanting something under his breath, a white glow enveloped his hand for a brief moment, and it enveloped the struck part of his leg. After a few seconds, he drew back his hand, and straightened to his full 6'7" height.
"Situational Awareness, Izune.." He growled, perhaps a bit hypocritically. "I could've stopped a blow thrown with that much force and power, at that degree of range. Perhaps you may need to revisit your training from the basics."
He trailed off to mutter something along the lines of a hasty "maybe you just need training, in general.." and something like a mumbled "...would've killed a lesser man..." as he began weaving threads of psionic energy between his fingers as he observed the durability of the psionic barrier he had erected between the monstrosity and Izune. He legitimately cared about Izune, but he was a bit miffed at her.
Yes, he could recover from it, but it was the principle of the thing!

"That." Izune spat with emphasis, "was supposed to hit that mindless oaf, and would have had you not gotten in between." Her feline body rippled and changed, gaining human-like height and features. Her feet remained digitigrade. Her hands, five fingered, but tipped each with claws easily two inches long, and her thumb claws, longer still, deep purple, black and razor sharp. lines of a slightly lighter, but still dark purple hue traced their way up her furless arms. The furlessness revealed a wound which had been hidden before, from the initial encounter, not from this more recent attempt to bite her. It was fresh, but clearly clotted, and healing. She was prepared for offense and agility, not defense. "Save your barriers and walls for the thin skinned human girl." she indicated kenessa. "Instead of putting these obstacles in my way." Her attack would have probably wrecked havoc on the thrall had it hit her intended target instead of Max. Blocking wasn't the way she worked. She rather be close in, taking the risk of getting hurt, since she usually fought at close range. Jay XARXU (OOC)

Non Player Character Thrall The thrall was only miniminally distracted by the appearance of a second combatant. It stood to its feet slowly, and continued it's assault upon Maximillion and Izune - this time it made to swing its claws to try and cleave at them. It was lumbering, slow, easy to predict, and from its previous crash its robe opened to show a deep gash across its torso that must have been hindering its movements. Strangely enough, despite being a fresh and very open wound, there was no blood. Meanwhile with Kenessa, she had been attacked by three similar beings, each wearing different clothes. They lumbered toward the human before making to lunge, bite, rip, and tear at her as well. Kenessa Kenessa watched from a distance as the battlefield started to fill up. Having ran out of the way of that... thing and the cat - who, in typical Eokian fashion, transformed into a human, and a male who just popped up seemingly out of nowhere. A vaguely familiar one, at that.
She shook her head, turning on her heel. It wasn't worth helping two strangers when she had her own things to worry about, after all.
However, she wouldn't have a choice in the matter. When she reoriented herself, she was face-to-face with a... no, two... no, three of those things.
"Shite..." she hadn't been looking forward to fighting, but... eh. She reached behind her back, and drew her Rift Blade from its scabbard. "Alright Lucille, time to become zombie-hunters," she muttered to her blade, running a finger across the side. It thrummed with divine energy - the tingle was something she'd never get used to, all things considered - and she got to work.
Her first slash was a lucky, precise hit that ripped into the flesh of one of the thralls that stood still. It was obviously disoriented from that, to which she followed up by drawing her gun to blast it in the face while it fell back.
She was preoccupied enough with it that the second thrall almost got her with the lunge. A quick phase in and out of space was what saved her, and Kenessa turned on her heel to fire at it as well. The shot hit, but only in back which only minimally slowed it down.
She turned on her heel again, swiping at the other thrall. It was inelegant, and almost missed the beast. For that, she was almost hit, which she deftly dodged. Another shot rang out, one that hit it square between the eyes.
The thralls were slow, which was why her own relatively bumbling swordsmanship didn't really hurt her as much. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female Loner。 XARXU (OOC)

Well, Maximillion's shields offered some protection, slowing down the thrall, and significantly delaying some of the attacks. Waiting behind the thing was frustrating for Izune. The cat may have been frightened at first, but now that the monsters were out in the sun, she reveled too much in the excitement of a fight. She could not bear to sit still and wait for the thing to break itself against magical defenses. She tried her hand at waiting of course, but the longer she waited, the less she could stand to not engage she was already prepared to claw them apart after all. Forget this. If she got hurt and the man stayed out of her way, she'd not blame him for her pain. The risk was her's to embrace and she intended to dance.
The feline-humanoid moved with fluidity, as she sprang around the barrier to engage with the thrall. Since it did not seem to feel pain, it's movements were not well guarded. She sped into range, to strike at it's head with her claws. She hoped to make up for the missed blow which had been messed up by Max's intervention and maybe more. She hoped the thrall was susceptible to the corrosive effect of her claws, that it would cause enough decay to put and end to the drone like attacker.

Non Player Character Thrall Izune's attack was rather effective, and caused the creature's limbs to become nearly useless. Still, as it fell to the ground, it tried to snap rather futilely at its two targets. The two were more or less safe for now. At least, they would've been, if there wasn't a bellowing sound that reverberated across the area. Kenessa Kenessa breathed out, wiping her brow. The thralls were a surprise to her, but it wasn't something that couldn't be dealt with.
She turned to look down at Izune and Maximillion, whom had dealt rather easily with their own enemy.
"Better keep my distance, yeah," she said. It was her first response to seeing the two of them. If she was here for whatever reason, she could only imagine that actual Eokians would be here for another reason she couldn't possibly hope to fathom.
Then, she heard the bellow, and her body moved automatically. No, she wasn't necessarily afraid, but she wasn't willing to stick around to figure out what in the world was strong enough to make that happen.
"Get the stuff, get the hell out," she muttered to herself. "Excuse me," her words to Maximillion and Izune were brief as she moved by them to enter the home. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female Loner。 XARXU (OOC)

(Goodness! A lot happened since my last post. It's too much to write in a concise post, so...just sticking to the Present time)
"Izune, let me warn you now: even the slightest contact with such entities can often result in some kind of contagion overcoming you, not entirely dissimilar to what you would've killed me with, if I were any other man."
The Undead-looking creature before them was bugging Maximillion, and he'd had enough of playing around. His face went smooth, impassive, and he raised his right hand back over his left shoulder, held it for a moment, then made a careful, but forceful backhanded slap motion. He was a good near ten feet away, but the shockwave that erupted from his hand would strike downwards at the ground with the force like a Titan's striking fist, and if it landed on the snapping, immobile thrall, it would do commensurate damage as....well, a Titan's striking fist. Maximillion's hand would glow red for a moment (due to the friction he'd soaked with his hand from the attack, having forgotten to saturate his hand with Chi first), but he'd turn to look sideways at Izune (Loner。) and then Kenessa (Jay) as the bellowing roar sounded all around them.
"If you want to run, just know that worse than you've already faced lies in the path back home, wherever said 'home' is. The only way past is through. If you need a strong, ruggedly handsome young man to guide you into the Devil's Den, then so be it."
He was hardly young, but he mostly looked the part, the beard somehow still lending 5-10 years to his apparent age. The last statement he made was twofold: he would lead inwards if need be, but if he knew Izune like he figured he did, she would balk at the thought of being treated like some 'damsel in distress', and would get over her reservations and join him as they strode - perhaps literally - into the gaping maw of Hell.

Izune laughed at the warning. The thought of being Infected just didn't bother her. "Coming in contact with a little contagion once in a while just makes things more exciting." In the end she enjoyed this sort of thing.
A flash of annoyance crossed Izune's face as Max dealt with the corpse. She could have used that if she were in the mood to play puppetmaster. She didn't think she'd need to at least so the more thorough pulverizing of the corpse was something she could consider a minor slight. As she picked up a bone with the flesh still on it, the flesh receded, rotting away cleanly until the bone was spotless and white. She spun the bone between her fingers, casual despite the fact that there was probably more danger coming. She glanced back at Maximillion. "If, I need a strong, good-looking man to help me, I have an acquaintance who's fits the bill. You wouldn't have met him plus he's more my style." She jabbed, hoping but not expecting to get a reaction out of him.
She held her fingers apart, balancing the bone on barely visible threads. "Now, Let's see if we can pay this puppetmaster a visit." drones like these often had someone pulling strings after all.XARXU (OOC) Jay
