Blue eyes blinked as another ghost town was observed and noted. It seemed as though it was all they stumbled upon in the wilderness anymore. Sanctuary was huge, but in this region, she could not help but wonder how things became so desolate. It was like the entire area had been a small section within the massive continent, but was carefully wiped out. Some towns were very modern, while others much simpler and rural, as if they had barely left the stone age. Nevertheless, all reflected a post-apocalyptic appearance - shattered windows, broken walls, scattered papers, fractured buildings. How had it all happened?
The golden blonde could easily take a wild guess and likely be accurate. She suspected that the towns in this region harbored mythical nonhumans, or humans who could wield magic or control supernatural powers. Such a thing was feared by the Sanctuary Authorities, and as a result, outlawed. The radical group sought to purge the land from anything unnatural. They were otherwise peaceful, typically, when it came to relations with residents of Eokia and other groups. Nevertheless, the standard citizen did not have the knowledge and awareness of anything beyond the borders of Sanctuary. Those who did were seen as idiots who had their head in the clouds, and if things went too far, the Authorities would arrest and brainwash them. The system worked, unfortunately, as Alice would quietly note. They were clever, and good at their job. People in Sanctuary were safely ignorant.
This place was a small town, with a few parked cars covered in dust and debris. They never would see their owners again, nor ride down a smooth road. No trace of life could be found, and any sign of deaths had been erased. It was an interesting and intriguing place overall; one that Alice wished she could explore more of. She was here for other reasons, however, as she was told. Word of a certain someone who was seeking out Eden. What better place to meet such a person than in a town that had been desolated by the Authorities? Alice leaned against a smoothed wall, her arms crossed and her eyes closed. She would attempt to use her limited clairvoyance, in other words, remote viewing, to see where he was, and to track his approach. She had a good feeling about this - it was not every day that she was able to meet someone new. Hopefully, this would be a fun encounter~

”Follow the road to the east, it will lead you to a desolate town. There you will find someone from the organization”.
Searching every dark corner, nook and cranny; finally Jin had been able to acquire just this piece of information. Valuable or not, risky or not, it didn’t matter nor did he care; he was going for it. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest of choices to make but he had no other options. Leave this clue and continue looking for a better one? Who knew how long that would take? ”The worst possibility would be that it’s a trap and I have to defend myself. In which case, I just hope I’m fighting against humans”; thought the well dressed individual. It was a day’s journey, so he had set off in the cover of night. Maybe using a transport would have been the more convenient method of travel; not to mention, a faster method. It did present a risk.
Jin was well aware of the Sanctuary Authorities. Their noses would sniff any whisper of rebellion or anything ‘out of the ordinary’. Considering his current abilities and strength, he knew that he didn’t stand a chance. For now, the best way was to find help and that was where he was headed. After months of searching, this was where he was led to. By the time he arrived at the town, it was early morning.
As he bit an apple while walking through the streets, he could relate to the scene that surrounded him. ”Another ghost town eh?”, he thought as he gazed around for any sign of life. He had made sure by numerous means that he hadn’t been followed. Now, he was here; the town where he was supposed to meet the contact from Eden. He had no idea who or what would be expecting his arrival. He wasn’t completely ill prepared though, his katana hung carelessly from the thread tied to his pants. His revolvers were tucked nicely in the holsters within his coat. And even if he didn’t get a chance to use both of them, he could do well with his bare hands. That all mattered only if he was facing a human.
He came to a halt to what seemed to be the middle of the town. Cars parked and covered with dusts, empty buildings, broken windows; the typical ghost town, courtesy of the Sanctuary Authorities’ might. ”Now then.. where are you?”, he thought to himself as he finished the apple and began looking around. Would he have to search this entire town to find the meeting spot? Well, at least it was early in the morning; if he had to do that, he had ample time for it.

Clairvoyant eyes caught sight of the man who appeared to be roughly her 'age', at least physically. While she was either far younger than him, or far older, depending on who you were asking, they at least appeared to be around the same age: nineteen. He was nearing the street that she was on, from what she could tell, at least, yet she made no movement. Why initiate the encounter? She would let him come to her.
The Daemon was painfully bored. While she did have various assignments and tasks from Eden, given either by messages like texts, emails, or letters, couriers and messengers, or the Boss of Eden, Feya herself, it all grew rather dull. This task was no exception. She had to meet someone, convince them to join Eden, and then take them to some high position or to meet Feya if they absolutely wished. Hopefully, this one would not wish for the latter, and would feel better off remaining within Eden a bit more informally. Unfortunately, she would be unable to tell until she actually met them.
Unless... Alice cracked a sly grin and chuckled under her breath. Maybe this could be a fun time, after all. He was within range of her using her more dramatic abilities- the ones that she typically ignored, as they were of no use to her in this world. Focusing her retrocognetic powers towards the only human currently in that ghost town, Alice attempted to peer inside his mind and read his past, as well as his present thoughts and inner words.
His history, though elaborate like anyone's, did not have much to it that impressed the Daemon. Though tough and rather sad, it still had no pictures of anything truly unique to be seen. No powers that she had not seen before, nor creatures or people that caught her interest. At the very least, she could see what brought him here, and somewhat understood more. Still... it was not like she cared. He was just an average human, after all. Though their race could intrigue her at times, usually it was the same old thing, boring.
Nevertheless, the nihilistic Daemon kept her sky blue eyes focused on him as he walked down the street, having likely seen her at this point. Having heard him inwardly speaking in his mind, Alice decided to attempt to use her telepathy to project her own voice into his thoughts in response. "I'm right here~" she said telepathically, a small toothy grin still on her face. Lifting up from her leaning on the wall, the blonde began to walk towards him slowly, before stopping in front of him to extend a hand to shake in greeting. "Nice to meet you, Jin Kuramoto," she continued aloud, saying his name as she had found it within his memories. "Call me Alice. Alice Scevidinia."

Normally when one is questioning something in their own thoughts, they don’t expect an answer. Same was the case when Jin questioned the whereabouts of the Eden contact he was supposed to meet. Contrary to his expectations, he did get an answer. The line had finally been crossed, this was Jin’s first encounter with a being that wasn’t human. He had known about their existence and had heard tales. He had travelled for more than five years but had yet to meet a super natural, mythical or any being capable of using magic. This was his very first time. Someone capable of finding their way into his mind, reading his thoughts and then even replying: this was no normal telepathy. Technically, this was still the unknown. And fear of the unknown is man’s oldest fear, is it not? A cold sweat dropped from Jin’s forehead as he turned to face the quite cute individual.
Her appearance didn’t hint to what she was capable of. She looked cute and looked exactly like a normal human. What was she really? And what was she actually capable of? Jin wasn’t going to ponder upon it nor question it. He was hoping that this meeting was with an ally. In which case, such questions would be answered with time. Her abilities weren’t just limited to the extent of reading Jin’s thoughts and answering him. She also retrieved who knows how much information from Jin’s mind too. He deduced this when she called him by his name.
Jin extended his hand and shook hers, ”The pleasure is all mine, Alice Scevidinia”. His eyes met hers, the hesitation from before had left and he was now more confident than he was a moment ago. ”I presume you already know why I’m here”, he said retracting his arm and casually placing them in his pockets. He wanted to see to which extent had she retrieved information from his mind. As of this moment, he was doing his best to limit his thought process. If her abilities were limited to reading just thoughts, then maybe he could stop her from reaching his private areas. If her abilities were more than that, then he was already afraid of what she could have known. The secrets that he had protected for years, even as a child who didn’t know any better, would be within her reach. And there was nothing he could do about it. In this moment, he felt naked, defenseless, helpless. Even though she was an ally, she was a dangerous one.
Jin wanted to know a ton of information about Eden and about Alice too. However, he wasn't one to speak much. Also, if her abilities were what Jin was afraid they were. Then words, were no longer necessary; at least not for Jin.

The hesitation had been satisfying to sense, though it quickly ebbed away as soon as he took her hand and gave his own formal greeting. Despite knowing this, Alice was not done playing with the knowledge of his memories yet. She enjoyed the sudden formality, however, as she preferred it to the loose and casual style of others. At the very least, it showed that he had manners.
Jin suddenly assumed that she had knowledge of why he was there. Very presumptuous, though the choice then was either to admit to it, or to make him work anyway by sharing his story. Luckily for him, the Daemon was not one who believed in wasting breath on useless words. It was a waste of time and energy, after all, and from what she could tell, him repeating the story that she had already looked into would most likely end up to be a bore. Thus, she would choose the easy way out, but not so simply. She would give hints as to how much she actually knew, and would attempt to see what reactions she could provoke out of evidence of the once hidden knowledge.
She knew all of his secrets, after all. "Of course," Alice would begin, her amiable smile changing to a somewhat more sly grin. "You want to find your parents; a search that has been going on these last seven years... am I wrong?"
The golden blonde would close her eyes briefly, prying through more of his memories before reopening her blue eyes to meet his. "Despite it all being a wild goose chase... you barely even remember what they look like, do you?" she questioned, chuckling slightly. It was an amusing story; one who was looking for something he barely even remembered. In the end, what did it lead to but a neverending loop of being unsuccessful? She did have a solution to it all, but first things first - the Daemon wanted his reaction to it. Would he be so accepting of her words, or deny them? Or even better, would he break down in despair? Humans were always full of surprises.

Her words hit him like a freight train, ”She knows?!”; the thought immediately rushed to his mind followed by a flood of memories. The reaction was beyond his control. ”She knows everything. She read everything.. She knows..”, he knew that she was capable of reading these words but he couldn’t stop the thought process. Alice was a cunning individual and Jin fell straight into her trap. Even if he half expected this, the words she had used; she was a brilliant manipulator and Jin had no choice but to be manipulated. His eyes opened wide, reflecting the shock that had just been inflicted. Then, he bowed his head, breathing audibly and attempting to stop the trail of thoughts. He had protected these secrets for all his life and within mere moments, she had found out everything. All his life’s efforts, gone in vain.
When all your life’s work is undone, the reaction is never a simple one. Jin was experiencing a flood of feelings. The feeling of loss and anguish, the feeling of being exposed like this, the sorrow and anguish but most of all, the feeling of being completely helpless and powerless; all of these feelings were what he was experiencing in this moment. He took a deep breath and placed his hands in his pockets. Raising his head he cast a cold glare at Alice. At that moment, hostile thoughts roamed free in his mind. He calculated that a single movement, a sudden withdraw of his sword as with the Iai style could help him behead her. He could quick draw his revolvers and punch at least 12 holes in her. He could attempt to strangle her since she was within his arm’s reach. All of these images went through his head and if Alice was looking inside, she would know of them immediately.
He did however, none of them; he controlled himself despite what she had just done. ”You’ve dug deep enough to know the answer to your question”, he said now in a calm manner with a more calm look on his face. He knew better than to challenge her; she wasn’t human but he was. Not just that, he had no hostile intentions coming here and even if she had dug through all those secrets; she wasn’t an enemy. He couldn’t treat her like one.
”I do not wish to join Eden just so that it would enable me to find my parents. I too wish to rebel against the Sanctuary authorities”, said Jin as he turned away and started walking. He didn’t want to admit it but he was deeply depressed and he didn’t want to look at her directly for now. ”I will not be blinded with my personal goals. I would however, ask for assistance and I will do my best to embody what Eden stands for”, he would say as he would turn with a determined look. She would know, from his demeanor and the look in his eyes that those words were not empty and that his intentions were true and pure.
”However..”, he would say before Alice could reply to his previous words; ”What you know are the secrets that I have protected my entire life. If some day I find out that you exposed them to anyone for any reason. I will find a way to kill you in the most painful way possible”, said Jin staring into her eyes. He knew that she wasn’t human, he knew that he was way over his head. His determination though was real. Even if it took him a century or more, even if he had to crawl back from the depths of hell; he would to exact his vengeance on her. Even a non-telepathic individual would be able to see those intentions just by looking into Jin’s eyes at this moment.

Of course she knew. She now knew everything. Alice could not help but hold an amused, sly smile on her face as she watched the much-wanted reaction of the human. His audible breaths of shock and the look in his eyes was like a well-deserved reward to the Daemon, while his despairing thoughts were icing on the cake. She could not help but release a subtle chuckle as she recognized his feelings of helplessness and exposure. In a matter of seconds, he had been turned completely inside out, and left powerless to stop her prying capabilities.
He put his hands in his pocket, and before she knew it, was glaring cold daggers at her. Why would he not be angry? After what she had done, this was to be expected, and much enjoyed, even. She watched the violent images and ideas that went through his mind with much amusement, finding each of them predictable and easy to avoid. How could any mortal expect to really kill a Daemon? In a sense, was she not already dead? The idea was very much laughable, and only made Alice’s sly smile widen ever so subtly.
“Alright then… you seem legit,” Alice commented in a less amused and more calm and serious manner, noting his sincerity as he spoke. For whatever reason, he really did believe in countering the Authorities of Sanctuary. His tone, not reflecting much of his past anger and helplessness, was intriguing, to say the least. While he continued to speak, however, the blonde’s smirk opened to release another laugh at his statements, which were an obvious threat. The laugh was more than just a small giggle, and was a genuine one, at that, as she found his words truly funny. “You… a human… killing a Daemon? That’s a cute thing to say~”
The prospect of a Daemon dying was an amusing dream only a few would have; namely, those who had their lives in the hands of one, or those who had been the victims of the despair that sin Daemons could cause. “Don’t ever count on being able to ‘find a way’, Jin. It’s simply not possible… I have access to all of your memories, and I can do as I please with them. You won’t stop me, either. But you can daydream and spout out those all empty threats if you wish. You’re amusing- I like you,” Alice said as she moved a few steps closer to him, flashing a devious grin.

Jin knew that he wasn’t able to do anything to her as a human; nor was he delusional enough to idly threat het. That’s the thing, he didn’t idly threat her, he meant it. Sadly, him being human, she felt no fear rather she found it laughable. He had no choice but to say nothing to that. If the time came and the situation demanded it, he would do it. One way or the other, he didn’t know how but he would find a way. Even if no one had ever found it, he would. He was determined that despite being a human, he would do it. ”Day dream? Empty threats? Huh..”, said Jin as he continued to stare into her eyes; ”Think of it what you will”. He concluded that continuing this tone of conversation was wasted on her. She must feel that Jin had nothing to threaten her with and she would be right for now. But would she be right if she did what Jin had asked her not to? Humans were no doubt a weak race but they were capable beings; their determination and will power made them scary. That is why even eternal beings kept an eye on these humans.
”Now that you’ve looked into my mind; acquired information pertaining to all of my memories and apparently as I’ve acquired your approval. What now?”, said Jin as he stood still. He no longer felt fear. Even though he knew that he wasn’t capable of doing anything to her, he still didn’t felt fear. She had that manipulative and cunning aura around her. Jin knew that he had to be careful around her. He also knew what he had to do from now on. He had to find a way to inflict hurt upon beings like her. Not specifically to her because whether he liked it or not, she was an ally. Even though she had gained access to information that she could use to manipulate him; he still couldn’t allow hostile thoughts against her. If he allowed such thoughts to infect his mind, he wouldn’t be a contributive member of the group.
If that was it, then that meant that from now onwards Jin was a member of the Eden; which also meant that he would have to help the group in the achievement of their goals. Helping magical and ‘non-human’ entities in the procurement of freedom and rebelling against the Sanctuary authorities; these were the primary objectives of the group. So they were probably mission and task oriented. He couldn’t know for sure though, he had been looking for them for years and had finally come across them.

Determination was indeed a strength that humans had. Most humans that she met had unimaginable quantities of stubbornness within, and that was something that she could be both appreciative of, and annoyed by. He replied in a passive comment, unfazed too badly by her words. It was likely that he did not care, or really was stubborn... either both or at least one of them. She chuckled softly at his rhetorical questions and words of disinterest.
But what was next? It was indeed a good question. At least he moved straight to the point, and that was something that she greatly appreciated. Wasting words was annoying, especially when she was trying to work business with somebody. Not only that, but humans seemed to be fond of the concept of wasting words, and just talking for the sake of talking, or hearing the sound of their own voices. While she could do quite a bit of talking, at least it was typically on the subject of things that mattered, and not chatter about the weather, or random 'small talk'. While she could force leisurely conversation to at least seem normal and polite, it really did become painful after a while.
"What now?" Alice echoed, the same smirk as before still on her face, despite being slightly more relaxed than earlier. "Well you have a few options. I could take you to Feya, the leader of Eden, and let you talk with her if you absolutely have a reason to. If not, then I could take you to one of our various hideouts if you need shelter. Either way, if you truly wish to help us, you will simply await for orders from Feya or the higher-ups. That will be when you can truly prove yourself, if you care to~" the blonde said with a casual shrug. The same monologue became repetitive after a while, though she knew that it was necessary.

His search had led him to Eden and that had in turn allowed him to meet Alice. It was a strange meeting no doubt but now Jin knew what to expect. He had only heard or read about this world. The world of magic and non-human entities. There would be limitless unexplainable phenomena. There will be a ton of foes that would be far more stronger than him. However, this was the path that he had chosen for himself. ”Unless mandatory, I personally do not have anything to say to Feya. So, any shelter would be fine. As you may know, I have skills as a weapon smith; so if my skills can be used, do take me to a shelter where I can contribute using my skill set”, he explained to Alice. If he was going to wait for orders, might as well contribute while he was doing so. He had been searching, all this time. It was his habit to continue moving onwards, towards a goal. Just sitting around was no longer something he could manage. He needed something to continuously focus on. Something that would require his immediate attention.
In Alice’s presence, Jin was vary now. He couldn’t even think to himself because his thoughts weren’t private. So if he was going to think about something in her presence; not that it mattered much since she had already acquired the very depths of his secrets. She now knew everything about Jin. That he was the searching for his parents. That his mother was not just a human but something more. And that Jin didn’t even remember their names or their faces much. He only had a blurry image in his head that he used to stay attached to those fleeting memories. His situation was pitiful and he was well aware of it but she too now knew. Regardless, there wasn’t much he could do about it at the time. The only thing he could do was become a part of Eden and move further in the forward direction.
