The skunk remained round for a good minute or so. After a while, his tail began to twitch. Slowly, his head lifted, eyes glancing around, before finally unwrapping himself and whirling about, looking back at where he knew the cat had last been.
Well, she was looking at him rather oddly. The skunk rubbed at his ears, heat rushing through his body.
"Ah-- ah...," he stammered, backing up. He dragged his nose through the dirt, pausing and shaking. "I...s...SORRY!" he blurted, whirling on his feet and then dashing away.

Shiren watched him flee, her ears dropping slightly as she had been lulled into thinking she had been succeeding in being social for a change. guess not. She couldn't exactly understand why he'd fled. she'd found him interesting after all, and had not been irritated by anything he'd done, except for the dirt clod. She hadn't even attacked him so...why had he fled.
Oh well. Shiren rested her head on her paws, waiting or 'snek' to return so that she could possibly share the news of this odd encounter.
if she didn't forget all about lop first.

Hazel eyes watched the two critters with curiosity. Skunks, she knew of, but beyond that, the other creature proved to be the bigger subject of interest. Nimble, tan-skinned limbs moved stealthily through the shrubs and trees as she drew closer, intrigued by the situation. The skunk briefly apologized over something and moved away, leaving the other creature hanging nearby.
The young woman, who appeared to have the demeanor of someone in their twenties, but the build of someone slightly younger, quietly moved to a location where she could be seen-- leaned up against a tree, sitting down slowly and silently. For now, the woman with almost a mane of white, fluffy hair, and a body clothed in furs would hold the silence, not wishing to scare the critter.

Movement caught shiren's eye. It was someone human-like, and shiren had little experience with human shaped things. The child gripped the large glass marble possessively with her paws, and pulled it backwards, her color-shifting pelt turning a tone more camouflaged against the earth and the weeds than her previous brighter tones. Of course she had already been seen so that wouldn't do for hiding. The child started to chirp, each note was sort and uncannily regular regarding the seconds between sounds. Where was snek now? She hoped they were near enough to hear her unease.

Poba listened to the unhappy chirps of the young creature, and tilted her head curiously. There was nothing she could really do to calm the child, but only keep her movements slow. The odd animal would come around eventually, she hoped, even if it took a good amount of time. The woman kept her eyes on the ground beside Shiren, as not to look directly at her, which could be taken as a challenge by some animals.
As she did so, the woman began to reach into a crude, hand-sewn leather pouch she carried with her. From the tiny bag, she pulled out a strip of dried venison, carefully preserved and salted. She held it in her hand and ripped it in half, ever so slowly. One half was brought to her own mouth, with elongated canine teeth. The other was held loosely in her other hand, her arm resting on her knees casually. Poba kept her eyes on the ground, though hoped the smell of at least a bit of food would have an effect on the critter.

There was an interesting smell, a new smell. Shiren paused to sniff the air but she couldn't place it very well even though it had a familar edge. shiren stretched her neck to see better but was not motivated to get up. A small flash of information crossed through her mind. She pulled her head back, and her ears drooped as if repremanded. It seemed Snek was close enough to check in. Shiren was instructed to stay were she was for the time being. Did snek know of something she didn't already? Probably. At least there was no indication from them that she was in trouble or in danger right now.

The scent of reptile was considered, making Poba wary. Venom was never a good thing, if she got bitten. She would need to stay on alert, even while relaxing in the shade of the tree with her dried meat. The creature made a movement too. Did it notice a potentially dangerous reptile in the vicinity too? The woman kept her vision not directly on the animal, but watched her enough to monitor for signs of possible danger.
Nothing else could be done, but Poba watched and waited. Hopefully this was a passing reptile, and not one hungry for the critter, herself, or her dried meat.

To be honest Snek would probably be more socialable than shiren was and a better conversationallist, but that was a tale for another day. Right now they were only close enough to provide shiren a little mental support and to let shiren know that she wasn't in danger. To be honest, they were still quite far away. Shiren couldn't even pick up their smell. She was just glad that if something went wrong they could be near quickly.
Since she was told to wait where she was by the snek, shiren wasn't going to do much. If the stranger was waitng for shiren to make a first move, well that usually didn't happen unless there was something the child wanted. The meat had no appeal but as an interesting smell. Shiren was not observant enough to see the creature as something other than human despite the signs of it cause she just didn't know what to look for. She shook herself then slunk a little further into the weeds, dragging the marble with her. A tufted stalk tickled her a little too much. She caught it in her paws and bit it off then spit it out cause she didn't like the fluffty-spiky grass texture in her mouth.

Poba was patient enough to wait there for most of the day, if not a full twenty four hours. Waiting was well in her nature, and nothing new to the snowy-haired woman. However, this time would need to be a little different, perhaps. "Hello, little one," she said softly and calmly, in a hushed, comforting tone. Would speaking make any difference? Her words were naturally in the tongue of most critters.

Animal speech, at least shiren understood more of that than some weird human language. A warning thought from the snake warned shiren that this was unusual, but to not be alarmed. It was simply allong the lines of better to not expect all things that looked human to speak in the language of beasts. It was a hello so... "Kalti" shiren replied, this being her version of a 'hello'

The critter responded to her, though not in the way Poba had expected. Was she speaking in some other tongue of beasts, or was there another reason for her unique speech. "I have never seen one quite like you, little one. What is your name, if you are alright with my asking?" The woman respectfully incquired, knowing it was best to be polite wit strangers, no matter who or what they were. Just like before, her voice was hushed and calm.

"shiren." Shiren answered bluntly. Followed by "cat." This was the same thing she had told the skunk Lop that she was. It wasn't true of course but it was easier to say than stumbling over her more complex species name.

"Lovely name, little one. I call myself Poba, but you are welcome to call me whatever you like," the woman explained softly. Her real name was long gone and did not matter anymore. As the critter explained, she was a cat, the woman felt slightly dubious. The critter did have some feline physique, but only slightly. How did she explain the other features, other than odd mutation? Perhaps some things were best left unexplained. "A cat? You are an interesting cat, little one, but I do not mean that in a bad way. I myself am a beast like you, though I have come to prefer what I look like now."

Shiren would have answered differently but cat was far easier to say than frutsial was. As poba talked shiren began getting the glassy eyed look which came with ending up too confused to respond. Shiren might have said something if she had not ended confused enough to choose that accepting it made no sense was better than trying to force herself to understand. What was she supposed to say to such a comment like 'interesting cat, and not in a bad way' and 'beast like her but looking?' "Bunny?" Shiren guessed randomly figuring she was supposed to at least say something.

Poba chuckled softly at the creature's response. It seemed confused by her speech, thus she felt it may be better for her to use less words in a sentence. Especially if her hypothesis on the creature speaking a different tongue was correct. "No, not a bunny," the woman said. "Would you like to know?"
