Sheol
A land of darkness located in Necropolis, standing as one of the capitals built around the throne of the ruler of Necropolis.
Geography and Infrastructure
Sheol manifests itself as a gigantic land that spans over an extremely wide area, being able to house a number of areas all with various uses. There exists both cityscape and places that lead to natural lands.Qualities
- The size of Sheol is not easily able to be determined, but the general consensus is that it's titanic in size.
- The weather of the world differs depending on where you go. In Pandemonium, it's more or less "stable", while in Inferno the weather can range from mild to extremely fierce. The skies are always a very inhospitable color.
Places of importance
There are a few places of importance within Pandemonium. The division between them, once only conceptual, became more literal with an introduction to barriers and the like.- Pandemonium: The main city in Sheol, where most of the more mundane parts of life occur. Demonic citizens live here, much in the same way that people from material planes live, and go about their daily lives.
- Inferno: A wilderness that extends outside of Pandemonium. It is the largely lawless, territorial area that surrounds it, separating itself into tiers called "circles" or "rings".
State of being
Contrary to most of the plane, Pandemonium stands as a very concrete area within the normally malleable state of the hellish dimension. It is one of the most easily perceptible parts of the realm, as nearly all kinds of beings can enter it.The entirety of the city "surrounds" the throne of the Sovereign of Oblivion, the ruler of Necropolis.
However, it is more accurate to say that it is easier to access the throne from Pandemonium due to its innate capability to lock onto the cosmic coordinates of other dimensions.
Society
There are very few unifying ideals in Sheol society, with only the Unspoken Sins being the things to govern their behavior loosely.Unspoken Sins
There are a few "laws" in place throughout the mostly civilized areas of Sheol. While these aren't always enforced, social ostracism is very, very common for breaches of these social contracts.- To disrespect the Sovereign of Oblivion is to undermine Necropolis.
- To pursue Sheol's destruction is to forfeit your existence.
Leadership
All leadership in the land eventually falls to the Ruler of Necropolis as a whole. However, Sheol is known to be a place where lords of darkness are capable of congregating. This place, known collectively as Dis, is a constantly shifting location in Inferno where the elite stay and plan. It connects directly to Pandemonium, allowing them to enter and exit the city at will.
The beings who are recognized by Sheol to be powerful demons are called either Archdevils or Dark Gods; the former is for powerful, but distinctly non-divine beings, while the latter is for extremely powerful, semi- or completely divine dark beings.
Foreign Affairs
The general idea is that Sheol is a place of general discontent with those from the Outside. The mortal plane isn't a well-liked place in terms of the realm, and the Astral Planes even less so. Most outsiders that come to Sheol will find either disregard and disrespect, or outright hostility and aggression from the population. In some cases, you can have beings who deal in trades with Sheol, and thus they may enter the realm to do business. There are an extremely small amount of extraplanar beings who call Sheol their home, but their numbers are not absolutely zero. More often than not, you will find that those people are naturally-inclined to the dark.
Population
The population of Sheol is massive, with an unknown, presumed exorbitant, number of them living in the vastness of the Inferno. In Pandemonium, the numbers are stable, but no one has really kept count.Of the population, a very small fraction of them are not innately dark-aligned. However, the most common things you'll see are typically malignant beings of all kinds: demons, evil spirits, fallen angels, etc.
