SHIREN
Happy birthday, happy birthday, to you, to you.
Not the words, but the melody of the popular song laced the unusual forest clearing, as an iridescent and childish hum. It wasn't anyone's birthday that the hummer knew, but she liked the sound of the melody of the song, and that was enough to sing it on this crisp October morning.
The 8am daylight refracted into the space through the trees above was a rainbow of colors, shifting with the movements of the wind to almost kaleidoscopic effect from hundreds of accumulated shards of glass, bits of bottles for greens and browns, broken bits of mugs and cups, art-glass stolen from stained glass windows for the most vibrant hues as well as mirrors to reflect the sun light even more created such a color-potent scene. Ones that were close enough together clinked musically in a way almost like wind chimes when the breeze played with them just right.
From a nest built up in the inside of a tree, extended on the ground by an intricate weaving of brambles so sound, it could almost be made into a basket, a small fluffy creature waddled to the center of the clearing. She was carrying some kind of shiny stuff in her wings, which she held in front of her like a cup. She dropped the stuff in the cast iron pot that she'd set up in the center of the space, smiling slightly at the soft sound like sand that came from the course powder dropped into the receptacle. The pot was really as big as she, and she was so small that some rabbits could have out-sized her.
The 'song' stopped as she sneezed. Some of the dust had gotten in her nose. The small purpleish skunk-like creature shook herself to shake off any loose grains of the stuff. Making 'potions' was fun, but the dusty part of her mixtures wasn't.
(smallish and/or non-human forms please, anything too big, or too human may frighten her.)

This was not the Wind Chime Wood.
Tiptoeing through ferns and grass that shone silvery orange under a rather sparse forest canopy, he could be glad that it, at least, was not a very spooky forest. Sure, some of the trees had suspiciously placed holes or knots on them that might look like dead eyes or gaping maws, or bony branches that looked ready to savagely claw at any unfortunate passersby, but at least they were few and far between, and so easy to spot among the trees with green leaves turning golden that he could simply give them a wide berth.
There was no melodious ringing when a soft, chilled breeze passed through the thin canopy, only the gentle rustle of leaves, and the occasional chirp of a drowsy morning bluebird. Somehow, he didn't feel so small here.
The little spotted skunk, hardly bigger than a least weasel, his black fur laced with shiny markings across his shoulders and back, like a colorful cloak sewn to look like the brightest night sky. Despite the trees rising up around him, or perhaps because of them; they were stout trees, short yet not all that wide, and they helped to block out the horizon from view, not like a certain prairie he could name, where the sky opened up over an endless sea of grass.
Still, he kept on his toes, trying to remain alert even as he gazed in awe at how the morning rays slid sideways between the trees, long shadows slipping between the sun's rosy fingers. A particular flash of bright color, alongside the clinking sound of glass on glass, drew his paws closer, poking his small nose into a glade that took his breath away.
"Wow!" the young mammal whispered, creeping forward until he was under a cluster of the pretty objects. His head craned back on its short neck, the dawn light shining through the glassware and casting a collage of colors across his triangular face. His tail, a big fuzzy cape of white, was drawn up around his body, and squeezed by his fingers as he sat up on his back legs, staring with wide eyes.
Then he heard a noise, and his fur stood on end, and his front paws slammed into the ground as he threw himself up into a handstand --and lost his balance, accidentally somersaulting onto his back. He was captured again by the aerial kaleidoscope, lost in amazement at all the colors that spilled into the clearing.
A quiet hum caught his short, round ears, and his nose twisted around, eyes peering through the foliage of the tree that it seemed to be coming from. Slowly, his body followed suit, and he was crawling towards the tree, belly fur brushing up against the dirt under the grass. There were other soft sounds, like shifting sand, then a sneeze, and the humming stopped.
The skunk flicked his tail, curling it protectively over his back, where the tip rested in a wispy swirl just between his eyes. He could see woven branches like a nest, and something small and purple as it seemed to shake dust from its body. A bird, perhaps?
Shyly, he called up in a hoarse, squeaky voice, "Hello?"

Her paws on the rim of the pot, the child froze, ears perked at the sound of a voice she didn't know.
Gradually the purple creature sniffed the air, large pale eyes following till they landed on the foreign black and white creature which was not much bigger than she, pressed near to the ground. It was in her clearing.
For a moment the child frowned. One paw at a time she stepped away from the caldron, deciding to investigate the strange new black and white face.
"Kalti?" She asked stiffly, her voice almost a bird's chirp as she expressed the word which for her had begun to mean hello.
With her wings folded on her back she looked a bit like a skunk, one with longer legs and who held herself like a cat.
Other than her 'hello' she didn't know what to say.

The small skunk set his legs as the purple thing seemed to take notice, turning its head 'round, sniffing the air, until a pair of pale eyes were set upon it. Automatically a small chill crept up his spine, setting the hairs along it to bristling. Stepping away from the odd object it had been doting over, it began a very slow approach.
Despite it being slightly smaller, and moving so slowly, he still took a step back, until he realized something, a spark of recognition flicking fast across his nose.
The spotted skunk, all at once, plopped his butt down, tail falling from his head to rest across his front paws, watching carefully as the nearly-but-not-quite skunk took its own cautious steps. He listened to the stranger greet him with a faintly familiar word; alongside the almost avian voice, a memory started clicking into place.
"Kalti...," he whispered back, squinting down towards his paws, before pointing his nose just off to the side of the other mammal's face, not quite looking at her eyes.
He shuffled his front paws, and after a moment said, "Y-you're that...shyguy." He couldn't quite remember the name he'd been given. Come to think of it, he wasn't so sure that the other would remember him, actually; it had been some time, hadn't it? To help jog her's, and perhaps his own as well, he added, "With the--the-the shiny 'spear'."

Finally finding what seemed like a comfy place to rest, the small chinchilla like creature had finally found a suitable branch to munch down on her sweet little treat. Well, it wasn't so little to her. It was an apple, a medium sized one at that. She didn't know, nor did she care what kind it was, but judging by the pure red color, it appeared to be a perfectly edible, if slightly bruised, red delicious apple. Apples were among her favorite things to eat in this currently harmonious forest, but she certainly wasn't a picky eater. Being a Pokemon in the wild, just like any other wild animal, she couldn't afford to be hungry.
Instinctively, and rather tenderly, the Chinchilla Pokemon brushed off any dust or dirt that seemed to have formed on the apple before blowing off anything that she might have missed. Satisfied with the results, the Pokemon took a couple nibbles off of the shiny fruit, testing to see if it were a bad apple or not. Satisfied with the taste, the Chinchilla Pokemon made quick work of her meal before letting out the softest of what seemed to be the slightest of burps. Miju, the Minccino, then let out a soft yawn, rubbing her round paws over her closed brown eyes before curling up and making an attempt to take a quick nap on said branch.
It was clear that this Pokemon had just recently left her mother, or perhaps her mother had left her. Either way, Miju felt like this was probably the best place to rest her weary head, as she folded her pink paws under her large round head. Another thing, perhaps one who was knowledgeable on Pokemon, might have noticed was the odd coloring on this Minccino. Miju wasn't exactly sure what her odd coloring meant other than she was different from her brothers and sisters, and it seemed to make her sparkle whenever she encountered something - or someone - new. More specifically, when she was noticed.
The Minccino was too young to know why this always happened, but none the less, it did, and it didn't seem like there was anything she could do about it even if she wanted to.
However, the Minccino was barely even able to close her eyes before she heard the faintest of voices, and sat up in an instant. "Cinno..?" the young Pokemon whispered rather timidly as her ears perked up in order to find the source of said voice. It took a few seconds for her to find it because it seemed like another, more light, voice seemed to respond to the first. At least, she was almost positive she heard a greeting of some kind. That second voice, though, Miju knew was the real thing.
The Minccino's ears pinned down to the back of her head nervously. Hearing something you couldn't see was never a good, or reassuring thing. The Timid natured Pokemon dashed down the tree so fast that she barely noticed the two skunk like creatures who were at the base of a tree just next to hers. In an instant, she tried to retreat back up the tree, but slipped and instead crashed into the bushes with a bit of a thud. She was too small to make a huge noise, but it may have been loud enough for someone as small as the two skunks. Once landed, the pink Minccino remained as rigidly still as possible. Miju just prayed that they wouldn't spot her, otherwise the little sparkle that her body seemed to do would give her away.

Shyguy..... with the shiny spear? Shiren didn't understand at first, just staring in confusion until the puzzle began to put itself together piece by piece.
Ohhh.... !
The frutsial blinked in surprise. It was odd even to shiren that she remembered. She had a tendency to forget people just so that she wouldn't end up being hurt by memories of things. He was... he was... well shiren was totally blanking on a name if she had ever heard one at all. Guess it wasn't possible to remember everything.
"Yuu!" The child thrummed trying to come up with anything else to say. "Niteguy." She came up with randomly though this 'description' really only had anything to do with the spangled pelt she could currently see.
The child's head turned suddenly following a sudden unexpected sound of wrestling foliage. Turning, she stalked to the edge of her clearing where the bushes were still way too thick for her tastes. Something was there, something pink. She poked a paw at it.

The skunk offered up a meek grin, the tip of his tail twitching as the stranger seemed to recognize him in turn. It wasn't often that he got to meet up with old faces; even if this wasn't a face he knew well (at all), it was still a welcome reprieve.
Then a raucous crash rent his fur a-bristlin', and he shot up to his paws at such a speed that he ended up falling flat on his face. He blinked, paws wiping at his nose, and stared as the other boldly strode forward to investigate.
"Uh-uh...," he mumbled, scrambling back to his paws, wracked so for a moment by shivering that his claws simply dug into the dirt and wouldn't allow him to move. When he noticed the pinkish sparkle in the bushes, however, that allowed his curiosity to take over for a moment--not to mention a simple wanting not to be left behind all on his lonesome.
Swiftly, his tail standing straight up like a frizzy white bottlebrush, he shuffled sideways in a somewhat hopping gait, pulling himself in behind the stranger as she poked at whatever lay inside the shrubbery. Longer yet shorter than the feline-postured stranger, he arched his spine tightly in an attempt to hide properly, although this was made even more difficult when he wasn't paying attention to what his tail was doing.
His nose began to stretch forward in an attempt to peer between her legs, muscles growing more tense with each passing second, with even his lungs constricting in on themselves as he held his breath, expecting the worse.
Like a--like a big pink beetle that was going to expunge all sorts of nasty stuff on them!

Upon being noticed, surprisingly enough she didn't sparkle right away. Though she seemed confused at this at first, but just sort of rolled with it. Perhaps it was because she wasn't clearly spotted yet. When one of the skunks approached her, Miju attempted to take a step or two away, though the tree she'd fallen off of made it impossible to escape the direction she'd intended to go. The young chinchilla Pokemon flinched as the skunk's finger poked at her, and finally the expected sparkles flew around her as well as the two skunks that were making their way toward her. At this point, the Pokemon felt like she had no choice but to make herself known, though it seemed as though the skunks were disinterested in harming her in any way.
Just in case, the young Pokemon peaked her head out while oh so subtly using her non-damaging attacks. That is, Baby Doll Eyes. If they had any interest in harming her, hopefully she would be able to use her charm to keep them distracted just enough for her to make her getaway. If not, well then hopefully this would be a sign that she meant no harm.
Pausing for a moment, Miju waited to see what they would do upon realizing that there was a living creature attached to the nose the skunk had poked. If they didn't do anything, Miju would slowly make her way out of the bushes until she was completely exposed to the lights that peaked through the trees.

There was a thing there and.... It was pretty just like her glass collection.
Shiren didn't take interest in eyes at all. She rarely looked at some-creature's face for long enough to notice whatever effect a creature's eyes might have, and it was the same way now. She was far more interested in the colors and sparkles. Since she already had one of her tiny paws poking the creature, she she made an attempt to pin the little creature down with both of her forepaws and then drag Miju out of the bushes in order to get a better look at it. Although the child didn't mean harm, her actions were certainly on the rougher side since she did not want the shiny thing to escape, and she had not been taught how to be gentle when dealing with other living beings. cynda1 0

The skunk's fur upended once more at all the sudden movements. He hadn't much time to stare before the purple skunk was pouncing on whatever it was shining about in the shrubbery.
He hopped back on his paws, stumbled a little, back arched and tail standing straight up like some spooked cat. "W-wh-what are you do--doing!" His rear-end had automatically been aimed at the strangers, and just the tiniest bit of odoriferous skunk musk was accidentally squirted out onto the grass between the others and him.
