The entries on the angels, while not necessarily huge, is completely optional reading if you want to know more on the angels and their home. Below, you'll get the bare minimum information needed to understand whom they are and what they stand for. Important Background Information- The angels of Empyrea are beings of light, sound, and energy whose powers reflect that.
- The angels of Empyrea are diametrically opposed to the dark forces of the universe, most often found in Necropolis.
- Most Empyreans live within their heavenly realm, and those that do are more than likely under the jurisdiction of the higher angels.
- The hierarchy goes as such, from least to greatest rank - Messengers, Archangels (Ophanim, Cherubim, Seraphim), and the Empyrean Lords. Above them is the Elder, whom is more akin to a god than an angel.
- While their power levels rise as you ascend through the ranks, even lesser angels are very powerful on average.
Important Current Information- The Empyreans have emerged once more for the first time in over two thousand years, following the war with Necropolis.
- They have a presence in most of the places on Earth, though their existence has largely fallen into forgotten myth.
- The Empyrean Lords are divided among themselves, and angels fight one another. No one knows why.
- The new Necropolis Queen has caused an uproar within their ranks, and many are calling for a truce among themselves to deal with the issue.
- With the deposition of the Necropolis Queen, and the institution of the Necropolis King, the angels are now in a state of martial law and plan to enact regular attacks on all demonic scourges on the mortal plane.

Empyrean Angel
An Empyrean Angel is a powerful celestial being originating from the higher plane of Empyrea. They are the primary inhabitants, but also serve as its military, and are imbued with considerable power. Characteristics Physicality All angels of Empyrea are created with energy that is very similar to the heat and light of a star. As such, their natural forms are known to be extremely bright and burn hot, with the strongest of their species being able to cause their surroundings to catch fire simply by appearing. These physical forms can be overwhelming, and tend to be the first method of combat they utilize to incapacitate an enemy. In their truest forms, their physical appearances differ greatly, but there is general uniformity and omnipresent traits. These traits are the light of their energy, a halo of light above or behind them, wings of seemingly almost solid etheric power, and large heights ranging from 10m to nearly surpassing some mountains. Outside of their true forms, they do not usually have a defined physical form. As such, they are capable of shapeshifting and taking on a physical body for themselves at any point. Behavior There aren't many known omnipresent behaviors in Empyrean Angels. The most well-known is that they tend to have a very faith-based, almost religious, view of their world and the things within. They serve the ruling power of their realm, known as the Elder, with an extreme level of devotion. Alongside this, they share the same taboos and cultures. Beyond this, their personalities can be as vastly different as mortal beings. Types of Angels There are a number of angel types in Empyrea. They sit on a hierarchy, which dictates how much power one is granted from the realm. Ranks - Elder: The singular leader of all Empyrean Angels. The Elder is a primordial celestial being who is distinct from their brethren in appearance, grandeur, and power. They are the most powerful thing in Empyrea, and govern things in the ways an impersonal god would.
- Empyrean Lord: The leading angels of the realm, whom are extremely powerful and frighteningly precise. They are considered to be Empyrea's greatest weapons, despite their population only being seven - one for each sphere in Empyrea.
- Agathion: The most populous angels of the realm, whom are the task force of their people. They are lower level, split into two primary ranks: Archangels and Messengers.
- Archangels: The generals of the various garrisons. They are the personal attendants of the Empyrean Lords, coming in three per Lord. The Archangels of an Empyrean Lord are a Seraph - the adviser of things within the realm, a Cherub - the ones who looks over the interdimensional diplomatic relations, and an Ophan - the military generals of the garrisons. They are stronger than Messengers, but there are ultimately less of them.
- Messengers: The primary angels of the plane. They are the soldiers and working class of the realm.
Abilities & Weaknesses All abilities and weaknesses here are universal powers that an Empyrean Angel can make use of. Of course, any angel is allowed to have any abilities/weaknesses beyond these, but everything on the list are something they're guaranteed to have to when they need it. Abilities - Flight: All Empyrean angels have the power to soar on particles of light and radiance. This allows them to travel at high speeds.
- Shapeshifting: Angels can shapeshift into different physical forms at will. It will not change their powers, but merely changes how they are visually perceived by other beings.
- Smiting: The signature power of an Empyrean Angel. It draws celestial power into their body, and allows them to unleash it upon a target in a precise blast. Angels all use smites in different ways, but all of them utilize intense power that has the potential to grievously harm or kill anything that gets hit with it.
- Photokinesis: All Empyrean angels have the power to manipulate light for a variety of purposes.
- Sonokinesis: All Empyrean angels have the power to manipulate sound for a variety of purposes.
- Transdimensional Travel: All Empyrean angels have the power to transport themselves between different dimensions and astral planes.
- Supernatural Condition: All Empyrean angels have supernatural bodies that have capabilities that far exceed normal humans.
- Awareness: All Empyrean angels have an awareness of things around them in relation to themselves. The levels of this differ, with the Empyrean Lords being near Cosmic levels.
- Perception: All Empyrean angels have the power of perception, allowing them to see through most metaphysical boundaries. This allows them to peer into other planes from where they stand, or perceive normally invisible or incorporeal elements in reality.
Weaknesses - Dark Energy: Perhaps the most nefarious of weapons used against them.
- Higher-tier beings: Any higher-tier being can do away with them individually, as angels usually rely on their powers being stronger than the thing they're fighting.
- Falling: Falling cuts off an Empyrean angel from most, if not all, of their heavenly powers. If they retain a lot of it, it is usually because the Fall was merciful - a rarity in their society.

Empyrea
Empyrea is an ageless, ethereal realm in the Heavens. It is the native realm of all Empyrean Angels, serving as their home and a base of operations. Society The River The focal point of the realm's power is the "river" of energy that flows throughout it. It is from this river that all angelic beings native to the realm are born, with their energies being pulled from it and molded by Mothering Angels. This is done only when the river flows backward, signalling the time for "harvesting" of new angels. The only exception to this are the Empyrean Lords, whom were created from the river by the hands of the Elder themselves, and the Archangels, whom are created by the Empyrean Lords. The end of the river lies at the Seventh Sphere, which pools into a gigantic ocean that houses the Celestial Throne within its depths. Military The military of Empyrea consists of every existing angelic being in the realm. While Empyrean Lords are largely uninvolved with the ground operations of the militant forces, they are the ones who give out orders. The leadership of the military operations go to the Ophanim Archangels, who create garrisons under them. The Messenger angels are all given a role based on their current duty: Warring, Protecting, and Avenging angels. Warring angels are those sent to do battle with forces that oppose Empyrea, Protecting angels guard things considered to be Empyrean-allied, and - perhaps most frighteningly - Avenging angels are precision strike agents whom are sent to destroy a specific target because of a wrongdoing done by them. Most angels have a job they are best at, but all are trained to be capable of performing all three. Government The government of Empyrea is an oligarchy ruled by the Empyrean Lords, overseen by the Elder. While the Elder is the supreme ruler of all of the entire plane, the Lords are their vassals and lesser gods who watch over the realm. The power vested in the Lords is almost absolute, and can only be called into question should the majority of the angelic population disagree with a ruling. It is then that the Elder must make the decision. Justice and Punishment The laws of Empyrea are rather steadfast, and are expected to be followed to the letter by all who exist there. There exist four major laws, often called the Four Restrictions. - Never wantonly kill.
- Never betray.
- Never needlessly destroy.
- Never abandon.
To go against any of the Four Restrictions is to go against the foundation of the realm, which is a grievous breach of the law. Punishment ranges from imprisonment, torture, and at the most heinous breach, Falling. To Fall is to be exiled with almost no possibility of returning. The Tiered Heavens The Tiered Heavens is a way to describe Empyrea's layered system of interconnecting demirealms called "spheres". There are seven spheres of Empyrea, all of them serving a function in the society of the realm. Each of the seven are governed by a single Empyrean Lord. Empyrean Gates Most entrances to Empyrea all lead to the Empyrean Gates. It is a funneled system which ensures that all who enter are thoroughly monitored. Of course, there exist back-alley ways to enter the realm, but those are largely unknown to most since the number of mortals whom have step foot in the realm can be counted on one hand. Celestial Spheres - First Sphere: "The Entrance". This is the sphere that the Empyrean Gates lead to. It is home to the Agathion Guards of the gate, who watch over the realm's entrance.
- Second Sphere: "Paradiso". A breathtaking sphere, where all visitors to Empyrea are allowed to mingle. It is a strange sphere that interconnects with other realms in the universe, and is cosmically agnostic.
- Third Sphere: "The River". This sphere is almost entirely made of energy, acting as a seemingly endless cosmos of celestial energy. It is where most of the worker angels reside, tirelessly tending to the energies of Empyrea.
- Fourth Sphere: "The Cradle". This sphere is where all Empyreans lesser than the Lords are birthed.
- Fifth Sphere: "The Court". This sphere is where all beings charged by Empyrea are taken to be judged. It is a cosmically agnostic sphere, allowing those within to be judged fairly.
- Sixth Sphere: "The Watchtower". A sphere of planning and strategy, where all of the angels employed here continuously work to monitor all things associated with the realm. They relay this information to the Lords and lesser angels, who make use of the information.
- Seventh Sphere: "The Hall". This is the highest of the spheres, where the Empyrean Lords meet to discuss things regarding their society.
