Sanctuary. It was a word that meant "safe place" or "refuge," although it was hard for her to understand from what the people here sought those things from. There was no immediate danger that she could think of that would cause people to be so paranoid or scared on the inside that they would name their sole settlement "Sanctuary"; of course, she had yet to venture outside its boundaries. The word sanctuary could also mean "holy place" or "shrine"; given most people's apparent lack of spiritual connection or devotion to a deity--her own included--she doubted that explanation fit. The name of the place she now wandered puzzled her to no end, but it was unlikely that anyone would ever give her an answer; she could barely get anyone to give her the time of day, it seemed...
Currently, the young woman was laying on a park bench, looking up at the sparsely covered trees above her. Part of her wondered what this place might have looked like in the spring time; would it erase the gloomy overture the city seemed to have about it, or would the trees and the grass seem out of place and artificial? She played absentmindedly with her black and ginger-colored locks, wasting the day away as she usually did; her amber eyes were full of a boredom and lack of desire. In all honesty, she disliked being stuck in this world away from home, in a culture she knew next to nothing about; not only was it boring, but it got to be lonesome after a while. In some ways, she conceded, it was better than home; she was removed from those that had caused her stress and heartbreak--removed from the false sympathies of those around her--but at the same time, she knew she was missing quite a bit. She was dressed in a white, long sleeved t-shirt and a pair of grey cargo pants; her backpack--filled with an extra set of clothes and some light snacks--leaned against the leg of the bench on the side closest to her head....

Kenessa The day wore on for Kenessa, who had been doing some scouting on her next big score. Her latest lead led her to a Sanctuarian library - not a place she felt too comfortable entering. She didn't even want to attempt teleportation here - Sanctuary's Authorities were too hot-headed.
She knew of the stories of General Sladovich and his ruthless pursuit of those with power. Gods forbid she pissed off one of the Hanatenno, as well. Things were stacked against her favor, so she played it safe whenever she had to step foot in Sanctuary
Sitting on a park bench, she took to reading up on some literature on her tablet.
When she looked over, however, there sat - or lay - a girl. Some hobo? No, couldn't be, she was too well-dressed. She looked like a college student, if she was being honest.
"Sucky skies we got, today. Wonder why you're lookin' at it so hard," Kenessa said to the girl, having turned her eyes back to her tablet.
Yes, it was a very brazen way to start a conversation, but Kenessa wasn't usually one for tact. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female

Despite how well she apparently kept herself, Patty was--for all intents and purposes--a hobo. She had no home to return to at night, no source of employment, and she certainly wasn't enrolled in any kind of education. The only reason she looked as nice as she did was because she had pulled some heart strings with a local shop keeper to get some spare clothes, the backpack and whatever food lay inside it, and pulled the same shtick with someone else to be able to get a shower. Was it wrong to manipulate people in such a way? To some degree, she felt bad that she had to fabricate some story or tell half-truths about the circumstances she found herself in to get what she needed; but since people in this city seemed to have more than their fair share of stuff, it didn't bother her too badly. It was right about then that she heard someone comment on her current state of daydreaming. "Well, uh.." she said, "I-I do this pretty often. No where to be, nothing to do an' all that. Although, come to think of it, they are a bit grey, aren't they?" As soon as she commented on the color of the skies, she felt the cold drizzle of rain touch her nose.

Kenessa "Yeah, the weather's gone sour," Kenessa said. She wanted to add 'sort of like this country', but opted against bringing in any socioeconomic subjects with a person she just made a passing remark to.
As she continued staring at her tablet, she spoke once more to Patchy without a pause "So, what's the story here? Don't you got homework to do? Or is this just a universal college kid thing?" Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female El Cuervo

Given the current weather, the girl pulled sat upright and put on her jacket (which she had been using as a makeshift pillow before), pulling the hood over her head as the rain picked up to more of a shower. She looked over at the woman with her tablet with a confused look on her face; as it stood, she had no idea what either of the things she mentioned were. Considering that the entirety of her life, up until just these past few weeks, had been spent living life as a cat somewhere in the wilderness far away, it no surprise that she had no knowledge of human institutions or practices; she couldn't even read. "Um...what's college....or homework?" she asked in a subtly bewildered tone, "I'm just out here because I don't have a place to stay..."

Kenessa "Kenessa raised an eyebrow at Patchy's words. That made her look at the girl.
"You're serious?" She asked. What kind of adult had no idea what a college student was?
Either this girl wasn't sober, or she wasn't human.
She shook her head. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, she just assumed the girl was high off her mind. "I assume you know math, cause anybody should be able to put two-and-two together right now." Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female El Cuervo

The girl nodded in response to Kenessa's initial question; she was genuinely clueless about what college was. She shifted in her seat and pulled her backpack into her lap. "Well, I'm not that great at it," she said, "But I can do that much..." The former cat could add and subtract--that was easy--but multiplication and division were out of the question. She also was unable to read or write in any capacity, but that hadn't been brought up, so she was going to keep mum on that end. Quite honestly, she wanted to get off the subject--she was starting to get a bit uncomfortable with where it was going--and decided to change it. "So, what are you doing out here?" she asked, "You don't seem like the type to enjoy being outside in the rain, if I'm being honest."

Kenessa Good segue by the girl - Kenessa wasn't usually one to prod, but she was very much one without the tact to care about whether or not any prying would hurt their feelings.
Besides, she didn't even know this girl.
"You got that right. The gray is depressing and you get soggy," she said, taking out her umbrella from her large jacket pocket. Unfurling it, she held it over herself, and by extension, the girl. "And to think, kids find this fun."
She looked to the girl, looking at her up and down. "You don't have an umbrella?" Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female El Cuervo

The rain was an odd thing for Patty; on one hand, the sound of it was relaxing and made her mind care a lot less about the predicament she found herself in...on the other, when combined with the chill of late winter, it tended to give her a cold. As the woman pulled an umbrella out of her coat pocket, the girl sneezed. If the other woman was paying attention for more than two or three seconds, she would have noticed something had changed about the girl's appearance--rather than being flat on her head, the girl's hood was tented, as if hiding ears of some sort, and there was a calico colored tail extending from her rear....however, the changes were reversed (hidden, rather) as quickly as they had appeared. In fact, the girl herself hadn't even noticed that her illusion had fallen for that brief period of time, and she continued the conversation as normal. "Sorry.." she said in apology for the sneeze, "And, no, I don't have one..."

Kenessa "Well, shite," Kenessa said. Her umbrella wouldn't do this girl any good - especially if she thought to just...
Wait, what the hell? Kenessa could've sworn that the girl's appearance just changed in front of her.
Maybe she was tired? Hungry? Or maybe things were starting to get weird, just as she had predicted they would.
Either way, the rain was going to be problematic.
"I'm moving into the library over there," Kenessa said, pointing toward it. "Rain can get ya sick, after all."
With that, she stood to her feet and started toward the library.
While she didn't want to admit it, she would be a little worried if Patchy didn't follow. Planeswalking human True Neutral | 31 | Female El Cuervo

"Um...right..." the girl murmured, grabbing her backpack and following in tow a few feet behind the older woman. The girl already had a cold--staying outside would only make it worse....and more likely that her powers could short out... Libraries had become something for Patty to avoid during her time in Sanctuary; given her illiteracy, she wanted to avoid any places that would cause her to stick out like a sore thumb because of it...and the library was one of the most obvious ones. Her heart fluttered inside her chest, but she tried to keep her mind off the possibilities that could be inside and instead focused on trying to carry on the conversation. "What...what was your name again?" she said, "I'm...Patty." The girl had hesitated on her own name--she was accustomed to referring to herself as another, similar name.
The library of Sanctuary was a grand structure. It was modeled in the timeless style of the Greco-Roman cultures, with a few modern touches such as a rotunda in the center to act as a sort of lobby or reception area. The interior was just as stunning, with granite tile floors and complimentary pillars holding the dome above the heads of its occupants. As they came inside the building, the girl kept her hood on; for the time being, she didn't want to draw much attention to herself, and the odd coloring of her hair was something that was certainly distinctive.
