No work today, a blessing since life had been dramatic, and Malik finally had a job. It didn't pay much but any financial stability was a thing to be thankful for when in waking and dreams, the dark skinned male had found himself having a rough time. Today seemed like it might be more normal than usual, so Malik actually Intended to try and do something for the community.
Taking his bike, and attaching a cart to it, the male rode to a local store. The grocery was poorly stocked thanks to a shortage which had come in the aftermath of the disaster, but Malik still managed to find what he wanted, a multi-pack of Bottled water, and there were some foodstuffs left. He couldn't afford to be choosy, but some processed foods or canned goods were most ideal, if he remembered correctly, anything with a long shelf life and easy preparation time.
He stopped at another store, buying packs of socks and gloves, and hats. There a storekeeper asked him why so many when he was going to check out. Malik was a little shy to answer. It wasn't usually him who did these things in his family. It had been his mother mostly. "A..Lot of people were displaced. An organization called H.O.P.E is holding a fundraiser, and starting a drive for supplies so they can get back on their feet." Not wanting to answer too many questions, Malik got out of there as soon as he was able.
H.O.P.E's building in the large city nearby had been wrecked by the disaster to some degree, but they had salvaged much, and brought out a large tent and pitched it outside. There were tables set up in the tent where volunteers were collecting whatever there was to offer. There wasn't much of a line right now, so Malik rode his bike part of the way, before dismounting and walking it the rest of the way.
At the tent, he stopped the bike. He began removing the supplies from the attached cart.
"Is that Malik? Its been forever, you look just like Ni'Ni!" A woman about twice Malik's age exclaimed from the back when she saw him, she was pale, nearly albino looking, and wore a bright bandana over her near colorless hair. "Come to help us out?" She asked.
Malik wasn't busy, but it was hard for him to admit that due to caution and not wanting to end up stuck in a situation where he couldn't escape if need be. "Well, at least to bring over some things." He admitted, but the lady who'd known his mom, and who's name he'd forgotten had this intent look on her face that was really hard to ignore. "I guess I can stay a bit. What do you want me to do?"
And so Malik got caught volunteering here. He ended up near the back of the tent, helping to sort out the donated supplies.

In the corner of Malik's eye, he just barely notices a tall brown and cream blur appear near one of the ruined buildings. The curiosity was almost too much to bear. Something was making him want to get a closer look.

(OOC: I can tolerate this this time, but I just want you to know that its better to post what your character perceives, does, desires and so on, rather than how my character might perceive, or desire to bother with your character. its simply good rp etiquette to keep things from the perspective of your own character rather than anyone else's when you post. even narrative post styles designed to explain things without posting a from point of view will say, character might notice, such and such rather than character does notices such and such to give the choice of action to the owner of the character.)
Malik had a job to do. Although he sensed someone unusual in the area, he didn't sense something that seemed worth checking out when he'd already agreed to meet certain expectations working to sort out donated items for those in need. Having been assigned a job, he wasn't free to just leave the post. There were enough people here that it wouldn't even be wise now that he'd been roped into things.
Malik was at a bad angle to see clearly, but some of the other people in the area were at a far better perspective to see the creature near the ruined buildings. They were also more likely to be afraid of what they saw.
"Bear!" someone shouted, but that was just silly. there were no bears in the area, unless one had somehow escaped from some zoo. In the current state of the city that was a possibility. As more people ended up spotting the odd furry creature, the confirmation of a possible bear induced restlessness, and fear, and eventually panic among the thin ranks, of donors, needy, and volunteers.
The volenteers were the worst off, for it wasn't immediately easy to get out of the tent, nor abandon supplies people actually would definitely need access to.
Malik stopped what he was doing then, because work had eventually come to a standstill since people weren't interested in continuing to help with something possibly dangerous close by.

OOC: Whoops! I got a little carried away there.
"Of all of the things that would happen to me," the brown creature with a coat not unlike that of an excessively fluffy deer bellowed in a vaguely feminine, yet still inhuman voice, "why would I get mistaken for a bear? Do you not notice my horns or my tail? I always knew humans were so quick to make assumptions, but this is ridiculous!" The towering horned creature (though more accurately only seven feet tall) lumbered through the streets and approached Malik with the same displeased tone and expression. "Hopefully you're not as ignorant as the other humans around here. Could you tell me where I am?"

Malik glanced at the frightened humans this wasn't good. "Don't Worry its just a Fur-Suiter." He made up, Raising his voice enough so that news could travel, and allay some of the fears. Some people wouldn't buy it, but it was better than a Bear rumor.
Guessing based on the creature's tone that she'd adamantly deny such a claim, he made a grab to pull her close so he could speak quietly. "You better play along and at least pretend to be human, loudmouth. people here won't care that you can talk. They'll just shoot you if you can't convince them that that fur is fake." He explained urgently.
Even though Malik suppressed it, his gut response was similar to the other humans about, fear, repulsion, a desire to let some authority deal with it, but he'd been in more supernatural encounters than many so wasn't willing to let this one cause him to loose his head. A talking creature was still one of the odder things he'd seen. In most of his encounters the supernatural being in question at least looked mostly human.

"I can pretend to be a human, but I have a few questions," the creature whispered back. "Why would they shoot me? Haven't they heard of the Nodus Code? And what on Earth is a Fur-Suiter?"

"Because you're seen as a danger before anything else. Of course not. and A human who dresses up as a creature." Malik answered in quick succession, before trying to push her away from him. "No more questions." He ordered, but of course the order might not be obeyed. Some people were watching him and that couldn't be good. He'd have to make up answers to stuff they wanted to know surely.

The monster took this as a cue to stand up straight and wave at people as they panicked. "Maybe you could take me someplace where I won't be considered scary? I thought people loved fluffy things!" her voice was sounding a lot more human now, even to the point of picking up one of the accents she's overheard.

Malik had turned away, talking to the other volunteers at H.O.P.E. For they, especially the lady who looked like an albino had many questions. No, Malik didn't know the person in the suit. No, she hadn't meant to cause a scare. Yes she seemed to be lost. And so on.
Malik had questions too. Was business here impeded, or could it continue as normal. Could they pass the furry off as a sponsor organization's mascot. Was he still needed or could he do something else. The answers were not promising.
When he turned to the strange creature, his expression was stern. "Look, I've got to help clean up this mess. I can't exactly play tour guide yet." He reasoned firmly. He roughly tried to pull her away from the volunteer organization's set up. "Get out of sight, and wait till things calm down." He instructed. It would take more work to make the furry act convincing as far as Malik could tell. Not everyone was buying it. At least there were places not to far away where the creature could hide and probably be safe. "Don't try to find a place where you can be out in public on your own. Trust me, there isn't one." He warned letting her go find a place to hide herself rather than playing escort.
If nothing off plan happened, Malik would be able to find her again after a few hours. Once hopefully H.O.P.E would be back to taking donations and the general public would have calmed.
