❖ SHIKA TAISHO
How boring it had become at home. Not Shika nor her tribemates seemed inclined to do more than what lead to a comfortable survival. Finding this unfulfilling, the yokai often ranged far and wide across the land, seeking entertainment. She was prone to spend a whole day away from her tribe, sometimes more, but she never planned to pull a "kagura". That was Shika's mother who was highly prone to leave without a trace, and not appear again for years. At its best, that habit had been was source of much frustration in shika's younger years.
The plan of today had just been exploring, and maybe some hunting. Though she rather pick fights, or make friends, shika had no desire to interact with beings she thought were beneath her. This was just about everyone until she could be convinced a person she met hat any worth. She could never admit it aloud, but she was also pretty lonely. Maybe she hoped someone would approach her who would finally reach her high criteria for approval.
Today had not been such a day so far, but who would come to her while she was flying? smart people didn't greet beings while they were in transit, and Shika stayed on the move for she spotted no interesting places to stop. That was until with a sound akin to the drawing of a blade or the ringing of a bell, Shika found the terrain inexplicably transformed from rolling hills and forests, to a vast urban city as far as the eye could see.
"woah, Shika commented to herself with an intake of breath. This was far more her speed then the places she saw in her home territory to think that it had been hidden just moments ago behind some sort of magic. She didn't think it odd, so without hiding her massive furry form she began flying lower.
She did not make it far when some kind of machine far smaller than herself, flew past, almost ramming into her. it would have it had she not swerved out of the way. It veered back around humming with some sort of mechanical power source. It wasn't until it fired something at Shika from its front that Shika realized she was under attack.
Shika teleported once to avoid the projectiles, but stayed in the area to hit the machine with a sweep of her long tail. It careened off course for a moment, but quickly stabilized its trajectory and corrected it's flight path.
A speedy stinging swiped the right side of shika's face, and her ear, yet the sensation quickly faded to a growing numbness across that side of her face.
Shika snapped at the drone which had sent the blow, breaking the pilotless machine into bits, but not before it planted a similar sting to the inside of her mouth. She let the broken parts drop away. there was no use holding on to them
Sensing she was ill prepared, Shika teleported away, hoping to end up somewhere where she could escape and regroup, but something went wrong. She experienced the split second invulnerability which came with teleportation, but found herself space shifted only a foot or two.
Shika dove back towards where she had come, but found she couldn't find it. There were no visible marks in the sky to show a way back. The only option left was to fly.
As fast as she could, the yokai dove away from the machines towards the ground. The drones followed after her. moving remarkably fast in response. Near the ground, Shika made an attempt to shift forms. the city was way too tight for her when she was so big, and she thought if she was smaller she could find some cover.
Like the teleporting, something went wrong. she couldn't change forms right now. She crashed into the road below, upsetting traffic as drivers strove to serve out of the way, and in failing collided with those ahead, behind or beside. There was nothing to do but get up, and try to avoid the cars as she bounded down the road.
Although she'd hoped to become a harder target, Shika was an easy target now. Every time a shot hit home, shika found the area numbed as anesthetic and tranquilizing effects set in. She rather they just cause pain. Pain was a thing she could ignore, but the numbness effected her footing, and caused her to often misjudge the effort needed to evade something. Offensive attempts on her part often led to faliure as something about whatever was being used to numb her, also seemed to interfere with her ability to focus and aim attacks based on her powers. There was very little she could think of while fleeing to remedy this.
The machines came in front of her now. Oh Great. Fleeing wasn't gonna work. With a roar, the yokai swiped at the drones, ramming some against the side of a tall building. Though she could catch a few, they were frustratingly like bees, or hummingbirds, able to fly quickly in any direction. Shika was unable to cut a significant dent in their numbers, before doses of numbing chemicals pushed her mind to blackness.
A larger machine swooped in to clean the supernatural monster away from public sight, while drones swooped in to clear the public's memory of the event with obviating chemicals. Another supernatural swiftly detained.
Shika was groggy when she opened her eyes. Her head hurt a lot. She couldn't tell where she was instantly. Somewhere largely made of synthetic materials. She tried to move but found she was essentially strapped down. She was muzzled as well. Shika reared up her head as much as she could muster. There were human people on the other side of heavy cage bars and reinforced glass within which she was being held.
She growled, surprising some of the scientists who had been observing the output on a screen moments before. Yet they were not afraid. Shika couldn't reach them, and they had her pumped full of magic suppressing chemicals, which were chosen to work with the known biology and magical talents of creatures like her. They had a report of abilities she had shown during her attempt to flee, and had tests planned to further refine the suppression. They could hope to study the creature for quite a while....
