❖ LUDA FISHER
The television blared, showing the morning news. It was Depressing stuff mostly. Crime rates were at an all time high. The police ended another riot that had happened the other night. an infamous criminal was still at large. Most of it was old news, which Luda had heard of well before now, or reflected previous incidents so much that the woman knew what they'd say.
the one thing that bothered her was reports of a shortage of drinkable water. Luda knew it was blamed on pollution in the rain, but who'd done it. Luda could think of several companies who may have accidentally sullied the weather, but several other options also crossed her mind.
She shut off the TV, and checked her calendar. surprisingly she had nothing pressing to concern herself with for long enough that she decided to do some investigation.
She gathered the supplies she needed, then left her residence quietly, knowing exactly where she wished to go.
The public Reservoir water was inky black. often the water was clear enough to see down below the surface, but this time there was no transparency in the liquid beyond a portion on the top, less than a foot in depth.
The woman shed her bag from her shoulders, and rummaged inside of the backpack, pulling out a vial on a cord. She cast it into the water. Hand over hand, she pulled up the sample, holding it up to the light for a few moments. in the vial, it wasn't as dark than it appeared when in larger quantities, but even by this it was largely tainted.
Luda considered sending it to a lab or running some tests on the liquid herself. She corked the vial and removed it from the cord to pocket, before a voice spoke from behind.
"Hey, that's Illegal."
Luda turned, seeing someone who looked rather official. The accusation however did not scare Luda at all. "I'm taking samples for a client. I'm sorry if I didn't seek permission first, but by the time such requests, would be processed, the pollutant might have already been removed." Luda reached into her pocket in order to display an ID which should validate her presence at the reservoir this morning.
