Malik could meet her eyes, without flinching nor fear. His own burned much the same at times. He had seen it in the mirror at home occasionally during the time he'd had a decent place. Looking at something so intense didn't bother him as much as it might other humans. He hugged her back, his arms firm and strong, but gentle as well. She was being gentle with him as well, but it didn't matter how tight she held. Even if she were much stronger than human, and squeezing hard, he would have been able to brear it. He closed his eyes for a moment. He might tell her something about 'why' but not now, when she needed to cry.
After several moments, he guided her slowly back into the cover offered by the roadside thicket of trees and brush that he had selected as a 'hiding place'. It wasn't much, but was surely better than standing crying in the alley road. Riley could sit on the clean earth if she wished, and it would offer a little more cover than standing in a place where they could be easily seen should someone come this way(unlikely but possible.) Plus it was out of the sun. Despite being in comforting mode, Malik was still aware enough to try and prevent anyone finding Riley out, especially since she had lowered her hood moments before. Otherwise, he simply let her cry, maintaining physical contact, and keeping silent in empathy until she was more ready to speak. elite Peri

Peri tried to keep her gaze steady as she finished weeping. It never really hit her except for at that point that she hadn't really mourned her 'death' as a physical human. Once she thought she was done, she let go of Malik. "Th-thank you," She sniffled through broken breaths trying to regain her normal breathing tempo. "I haven't really had a decent person to really let my feelings out on, I'm sorry you're that person since I turned this way. I know I don't know you well and boxed you in, in this situation."
As her breathing tempo returned to normal, she shook her shoulders some and brought her hood back to conceal her face and ears. Her blue eyes were misshapen some to show her emotion under the hood. It was hard to read her expression beyond the depiction of relief, or at least hard to tell what all could be going on in her head.

Malik glanced at Riley. He was smiling but there was something sad about the expression as well, potentially revealing the general train of his thoughts as they drifted toward that which he would unavoidably have to return to face when he went back to the city. "This isn't a bad box to be in. I've seen some rough times myself and there are definitely worse boxes." He said in a tone that was slightly reflective of a joke despite the fact that he was also quite aware of how serious those boxes could become.
Speaking of boxes...
Malik began cleaning up, packing any dinner left over into one of the still in tact containers. As he found empty ones he put them into one of the plastic bags, along with chicken bones and the tags which had come from the clothes. All this could be thrown away later, when they were ready to leave this place and move on. The edible leftovers were intended for Riley, since Malik assumed they would be appreciated later on.
Even though he had his back to her, Malik could come close to accurately visualizing Riley's expressions. He was nearly under the impression that he could see, but not interpret the thoughts which ran through her head. That couldn't be true of course. "Whats on your mind?" He asked carefully, preemptively guessing in his own mind what he might be able to expect. Hopefully the guess wasn't accurate. Peri

Peri laughed a bit as his joke in a small chuckle. She watched him work and moved on with her thoughts. She wondered honestly where he lived. He didn't seem like too rich of a person. Her foot shuffled with her impatient mind.
She seemed to be caught off guard when he asked what she was thinking. Trying to think fast and avoid looking dumb in front of him; she opened up in a joking/laughing fashion, "Uh, I was just thinking about where I was going to sleep tonight," Her paw went to the back of her neck in a bit of embarrassment, "If I'll even want to sleep at all,"

Malik put the container of food in an empty bag, and straightened up now that all was cleaned up. "That's a tricky one, any other time and I wouldn't mind opening up my home but... I don't have one right now even though I do have a job. Some jerk set it cause I didn't help him destroy some stuff." He explained. He might have little to offer, but he'd opened his resources to other non-humans before. Something was light about Malik's tone even though the explaination of his limited resources were rather grave.
"Even so, the city where I live is the last place you ought to head." Too dangerous, too many anti-magic people running around. It felt like the walls had ears and the doors had eyes there. "People vanish, if they're expected to be inhuman somehow." The light hearted tone was replaced quite thoroughly with a serious one. It was clear that Malik was afraid of being the one to end up 'vanishing'. He saw it as quite a real possibility since even though he looked the part, he knew he wasn't in the end.
"I'll go back and buy you a map." Malik offered changing the subject slightly. "You can go wherever makes sense. Take the leftovers, you can borrow the bike too if you want." He didn't want to part with it, but maybe he could aquire another one if he really needed one. It would take a bit to walk 'home', but it was within his ability if necessary. Peri elite

Peri listened with intensity, she felt like this would be the last time she would see him. The way he mentioned how much of a non-magic place this was, it worried her even more. Now she understood why the monsters didn't settle a town near this part of the country because they would probably be ripped to shreds if they did. Thankfully, Peri was a good problem solver and would probably find a place to stay even if it was of the forest variety.
"I appreciate the offer," She said with sincerity making a motion towards the bike, "But I couldn't possibly take your only mode of transportation, but I will accept your offer for a map," Her ears flattened on her head inside of the hoodie as she thought of what she would have to do in the morning. Her next main objective would be to get all of those child monsters back, "As I don't know the place and you have already given me so much."

The dark male smiled although it wasn't a happy expression. "I'd be fine walking, but alright." He agreed. He was pretty far from out from the big city he called home, but he knew that he'd be capable of at least getting back without the bike, even if it was a very unnatural feat.
Malik turned, and headed swiftly back to the store, hoping to find one quickly but knowing that maps were not often sold at these places.
There was a chance they didn't even sell maps.
Most of the world just used satellite based gps anyhow.
Malik was lucky. Since he had been in the store before he had a better idea of where to look. He didn't find a map in the sense of a big paper foldout sheet, but he was able to find a local travel book which had some decent maps of the city, suburbs, and even further, out. It was definitely designed for someone going by car, failing to detail landmarks in the woods or farmland, but it did detail major roads, rest stops, and true urban areas such as the capital and the surrounding cities. Of course there were some things any map would never show, anything the government didn't want people to know about.
It might not be as useful as an electronic map, but electronics were easy to track. Getting one would not have been wise.
Having found what he wanted, the trip was much shorter. The dark skinned male soon came out with the book in tow. He offered the book to Riley It should be enough for her to start with for finding her way around. Peri elite

Peri waved him away and slumped down on the wall behind her. The sheer thought of what those brutes might be doing to those poor innocent children monsters gave her shivers down her spine. Then, an idea hit her. Even though she specifically couldn't contact Sans or Toriel, if Malik had a phone she could call them. Sans would probably even teleport to her aid and get her immediately. As she began thinking and counting on her fingers, another thought hit her mind track. Calling them would seriously damage her pride and credibility but if she did that would mean that they could save the children faster and no one may have to die.
She tossed around the thought for a few seconds and then nearly unanimously decided that the lives of the children were more important than her pride or trying to save the children herself and risking herself without any sort of backup. When she saw Malik come back from out of the bushes, she showed a stern and concerned expression. "Thank you so much," She told him as he handed her the book, "Now, you don't happen to have a cellphone on you, do you? Would a phone like yours even be able to reach a very long distance number? I could possibly call back up or a ride if it worked. I'm sure by now they have to know I'm gone."

Malik checked his pockets. "You have to be careful about these things." He warned. "Hard to know when the government's put a tracker in one, or if they're tapping calls." He had one, though it certainly was a pain at times considering that the government might be keeping tabs on certain numbers. He found it tempting to just throw the thing away in paranoia. His phone was a rather old one. It still had a keypad instead of a touchscreen and could not do many of the nifty things which newer ones might do. Hopefully this made it more secure.
He handed her the phone. "Hopefully they have better things to do, and your call will get through alright." He didn't know where she was trying to reach. If it was inside sanctuary, than there should be no problem, if it was somewhere else in the universe though, it might take a miracle for the call to get through. elite Peri
