Lucky saw the hatch above and tried to get up there to see if he could get it open. However, since he didn't have wings or height or fancy powers it was proving to be much more difficult than it should be.

Well it was already partially open so the biggest problem was not opening the way out. The biggest problem was reaching it. For shika that was a simple matter. She had wings in this form so she could fly if she shrank down enough to give her gossamer dragonfly like wongs enough space. She could reach the exit easily if she got a little bigger too, since her long body made for adjustable height depending on if she stood on all fours or balanced on two, but if she got big enough to reach, she'd be too big to get through the small opening. She didn't bother with trying to resize yet. Instead she made a sudden grab for lucky, attempting to lift him high enough to reach the opening above.

As Lucky was thinking, he suddenly felt himself grabbed by Shika. His fur went up on end as she did, but he stayed quiet so nothing could easily hear them in here. Once he realized what it was she was doing, he jumped off of her and grabbed onto the gap of the opening. After some struggle, he pulled himself up and looked up to see where they needed to go. After he did that, he looked down at Shika, unsure how he could help her outside of grabbing onto the lift and trying to help pull her up, or trying to open the hatch more.

Shika winced as she forced herself smaller. Size chainging was still painful. She tried to judge the minimum adjustment needed to reach the gap and fit through. She jumped. She got her paws through, translucent blue claws gripping the sides. She was still too big, but only slightly. Size shifting while hanging on was a little too perilous, so she squirmed her way through.

Lucky watched as Shika got through. "Now, we'll need to go up in order to get closer to getting out of here." He said, looking up and trying to see if there was anything to help them with the task or an easier way.

this 'room' offered no hints of an escape. It was simply a large underground space with pristine empty passages connecting to it from multiple directions. It was still and quiet. In a cave one might look for a breeze a draft, or a glimmer of light at the end of a tunnel. Here there was far less to go on. Getting back would be a challenge.
Shika looked around, listening closely to the space around her. Sound and scent sometimes offered clues where sight failed to offer a useful result. Still there was not much to go on. An exit could be miles away. Shika began padding in a direction, deciding it didn't matter which tunnel to take. She'd noticed something and if she got far enough away from that prison, maybe it wouldn't matter if there was a closer way out.

Lucky began to look around even more, trying to find where he came from, though with how this place looked that was proving to be much harder than he intended. However, when Shika began to head off in a direction, he followed her, hoping his luck still had enough juice in it.

They were walking for a while when shika stopped suddenly, sensing a change that lucky probably couldn't perceive. "How far up do you think is the surface?" She asked, thoughtfully, entertaining an idea which might not even work if the distance was too great.

Lucky had to think about it. "To be honest, I really don't have an idea. All I know is I had to go down for quite a while." He said, not taking into account his size or speed.

"Stay there." Shika instructed, before suddenly vanishing as if she had never been in this place. The sudden change might take Lucky for surprise if he didn't know shika was capable of teleportation. The jamming signal was finally gone.
It took a few minutes for shika to return, long enough for anyone in a hurry to grow impatient. "Just clear." Shika explained. "Get on and hold tight unless you want to walk till who knows when."

Lucky waited for Shika after she vanished, but he had to keep his wits about him in order to not get caught off guard. When Shika did return, he heard her say hold on, so he jumped onto her and held on tight, hoping she had a good idea.

When shika said hold on, she clearly meant it, for she did not give Lucky much of a chance to brace himself before an uncomfortable but not painful sensation ensued. It was both hot, and cold. Stars might flash before his eyes as the dim light changed to equally pitch black and blinding white at the same time. It was also both deafeningly noisy and deathly silent. It was a place where these and other opposites coexisted. Time made the trip feel longer than it was while it was truly only a split second.
They were out. A Cool night breeze contrasted the still air of the tunnels. The sky was dark, somewhat cloudy, but the light pollution of the city made the area far brighter than below. This was some sort of empty construction zone, with tarp covered piles of dirt, and a sleeping backhoe silhouetted against the sky. It was still sanctuary, a dangerous place for magically inclined beings such as lucky and shika, but as long as nothing caught them above ground, they had likely been through the most dangerous part of this trip.

Lucky felt the weird vibes from this, the temperatures, the lights, the sounds, it all really hurt his body and mind. It was so weird to him that he felt like he was going to fall off Shika during the whole process. He obviously wasn't used to it. However, when they got back to the surface, he simply fell off her, still feeling weak from the trip that he thought was playing mind tricks.
He soon did get back up. "So, does this mean I succeeded in rescuing you?" He asked, shaking his head to get some lingering ringing out of his ears.

"Not used to teleporting huh?" Shika asked with a unmistakably sinister edge to her grin. "We're out of there but we're not home yet." Shika explained, growing more glum about this fact. She slowly forced herself to take on a more mundane form, aware by now that looking like a giant dragon weasel with horns and wings was not a safe bet for getting far.

Lucky sighed. "I guess not, though I guess now we start walking, huh?" He asked her, waiting for her to change into something better. "Couldn't we just teleport back home, or does that not work?" He asked.
