They reached a sort of square. Though it was concealed by the number of people around, in the center was a fountain, and the ground around it was decirated in a way that resembled a compass. Well at least if people would stop drawing water, or using the fountain as a resting place or meeting place the compass on the ground would have been readable.
There were a few people here who seemed to be knights or some other city lawkeeping rank. They were rather different from eachother. The brand of armor looked alike, but the way it was adapted to each person was drastically different to make up for the differing species of the city guard. Despite being geared up, the three at the fountain seemed relaxed. It would be good to ask one of them, as they'd likely studied maps, or a merchant, if it was the kind who traveled, or just about anyone else really. With this much diversity chances were many had once journeyed to or from this place.

Lucky saw the guards and figured they would know something about where they were and where to go from here. He approached one of them. "Excuse me? I've gotten lost, and I need to find my way back to a desert. Do you know if there's any around here?" He asked.

"oh, that's pretty far away." one of the humanoid guards answered, bending down a little to speak to Lucky "you have to travel west from here. It takes about a month for a solo rider if he changes horses along the way." Just this number hinted at how big Eokia actually was, especially for the creatures who had to cross on foot. Luckily Shika and Lucky were not quite as limited.

"Yeesh, well if I'm going to start, then I better start walking now. Thank you." Lucky said, heading off to find Shika and tell her where they needed to go.

Shika had not wandered far. She'd been close enough to watch Lucky ask his query, though the number of people around made it difficult to listen in. Her impatient expression spoke as clearly as words that she was ready to get a move on.

"Okay. So we need to head due west. They said it would be a month's time by horse if you change the horse when you can." Lucky said when he found Shika, hoping his news would help them out a lot.

Shika scoffed. "Horses are slow." Like this she couldn't but normally she could outpace a horse any day. "Lets just get out of the city first. Once there's more room we can make good time."

Lucky nodded his head. "All right. I just hope they haven't forgotten us." He said, ready to follow her.

Shika narrowed her eyes, and began weaving through the crowded streets once more, guessing which way was west, and hoping that they would soon find a gate or some other border that would show without room for doubt, the point when they were outside the city.

Lucky followed her, able to keep up with her as she seemed to be in a hurry to get out of the city. He didn't want to lose her, not now.

Shika might be in a hurry, but she wasn't going faster than she thought lucky would be able to keep up by. Finally they passed through a gate, and the terrain broadened widely. Fields and farms spread out on a landscape dotted with residences instead of crowded by them. The traffic on the road was still a little busy, but it was more spread out now that they were away from the confines of artificial walls.
Shika shook herself, and grew in size, quickly reverting back to her massive form, the one that looked like a fusion between tiger, ferret, deer, dragonfly and more. "If I fly and you ride, we'll easily cover enough ground." she suggested though her tone was more like an order in that she expected to be heeded. Se wouldn't be sure how much time it would take till she was up in the air, and setting sight toward home, but it would definitely be faster than a horse.

Lucky soon saw the open and expansive fields. He made sure to give enough room for Shika to do her thing. When she mentioned flying, he nodded his head. "All right." He said, jumping onto her back and getting ready.

Luckily shika's long fur offered plenty of pawholds. Shika's six gossamer wings did not even seem like they should support this swiftly ascending flight, but they did. So quickly the ground dropped away, buildings shrinking to the size of toys in the process. The air was a little chilly, and the wind was strong up here, but one could see more of the landscape as well, including obstacles which would have taken hours to get around had they been on foot.

Lucky held on as she went into the sky. The things below them became small and insignificant from up here, and they had a much better vantage point. He began to look west for the desert, but didn't see it so far.

It would be several hours before dry scrub land was visible on the horizon. They must be moving very fast if a journey said to take a month or more spanned less than a day. Even so the desert was vast, and it might take some time to arrive at the oasis. For now Shika didn't see many signs that they were close. There were very few landmarks she recognized from this direction.
